The end, there is some possible truth about it being more of guilt than compassion...that may be from a few. However, most is either from people jealous and lazy, or those that want to jump on a mainstream bandwagon and hope to be accepted in the "cool crowd".

I wasn't talking about the motivation of those appealing to "white privilege", but rather the emotion that appealing to "white privilege" stimulates in the people that are confronted by this argument, whether by design or by accident. Probably accident.

Oh yeah, the topic: "White privilege" is indeed a thing... on average. It's just an exceedingly stupid strategy to bang on about it endlessly. The margin is small enough that exceptions are the rule, which causes a lot of people to feel cheated/alienated. Also, emphasizing "white privilege" appeals to guilt rather than compassion.

As some of you may know and seen, I used to be a conspiracy theorist. I've promoted conspiracy theories such as 9/11 being an inside job, chemtrails, shootings like Sandy Hook being a hoax, etc. Basically I was your mid tier conspiracy theorist where I didn't fall for every conspiracy theory I happen upon but I did believed in some of the more mainstream theories out there.

How I got into conspiracy theories in the first place basically started with my interest in UFOs. My dad once saw some when he was a teenager and that got me curious as to what he saw. I listened to an array of speakers and radio talk show host (surprisingly I didn't listen to Alex Jones. His antics never appealed to me) and still do listen to some for their other content.

What actually started my journey out of the conspiracy thoery community was when I decided I wanted to become a cop. The more I learned about police and police work, the more I realized that they are human like me with the same interests. By the time I graduated from the academy, I've came to the conclusion that police don't have niether the will nor the resources to hoax something like Sandy Hook.

Things came to a head, one day, when I thought to myself "hey, if I only believed that the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax simply due to my ignorance on the subject, what else am I believing in simply due to my ignorance?" That's when I remembered one of the posters on this site linked to YouTube channel called Myles Power in a 9/11 thread. I decided to watch the whole series with an open mind and the series basically answered all of my questions about that event.

Fast forward to today. I've pretty much renounced all of the conspiracy theories I believed in by listening to counter arguments. There are still some things I have questions on, some things that I'm still a bit weary of, and some things I'm still convinced is true. But all and all, you can't confuse me with Alex Jones with what I believe or don't believe.

Welcome to the wonderful world of skepticism! Feel free to theorize about conspiracies all you want, but withhold belief, either for or against, until the evidence warrants it. Tentative belief and "I don't know" are perfectly valid options! Wasting countless hours on the pooper reading philosophy is optional, but highly recommended.

She paused a moment and then shouted, "GET OUT OF MY WAY!"

"Fuck you.", I knocked on the other glass door, "This is your only escape."
She was so pissed she almost knocked the door off it's hinges on her way out.


I'm sure when she retells the story she is the victim.

Then which in your view consistently rates at least better than some others. For example, FOX would be pretty low on the lest for objectivity. Which would be up near the top? Which is the most worthy one to spend your time reading?

For example, in Australia, the ABC is recognised as being up near the top although IMO there is a little bit of a slant to the left with it. But it is far more worthy to read that than anything else if you are going to digest any news at all

It depends. I don't really have a favorite, I don't read any one in particular on a regular basis, and I'll read just about anything if it runs a story I'm interested in. C-Span, APnews, and NPR are all pretty objective, if a bit dry and bare-bones. Foreign outlets can be usefully dispassionate about certain subjects. Reuters and the BBC (as previously mentioned) are decent for US politics.

The real secret isn't identifying the "best outlet" though. It's learning how to read sources that you know are biased. Assume everyone is biased/emotional/ill-informed/fallible to some degree. Learn to detect it. Read everything skeptically. Interpret everything generously to the author before criticizing it and generously to the author's opponents before promoting it.

Easy to say, hard to do I guess.

I don't think there's a major mainstream "leftist" publication thst isn't neoliberal in the US...

Meh. I would peg MSNBC as "leftist", Fox as "absurd propaganda", and most other major outlets as just sensationalist to varying degrees. I would hesitate to describe any outlet as distinctly neoliberal. NYT is hard to pin down though. Left/right are stupidly oversimplified labels anyway.

I hope they just mean that they are trying to get a handle on certain situations before they escalate into crimes. If someone is screaming racial obscenities from their front porch at passersby, a friendly visit from the local constable for a short chat is totally warranted. If they start hauling people in, that's a whole 'nother story.

Election reform, probably via constitutional ammendment: ranked voting, proportional representation, open-source automated districting.

Campaign finance reform is probably also necessary, but it's complicated and I am clueless.

It kind of put Hillary in the same basket as Trump to be honest showing this presidential race really was a race to the bottom. Both your candidates were gutter trash. One of them was just more capable at faking 'looking and sounding' 'Presidential'.

The problem is the system is so adversarial, you govern for those that voted for you when in reality, you should be governing for all those who voted for you - as well as those that didn't - basically, every American, not just a fringe part of it.

When it comes to political ideology, I respect that their are differing views - I wont hate on anyone for having a view that is not shared by myself.
