Flat Earth Q&A / Why?
« on: July 15, 2005, 08:34:47 AM »
Because they want to be different and they wana be able to say "I told you so, I was one of the few who knew it" if they are right. Of course they're wrong though.

Flat Earth Q&A / Trans-Continental Flights
« on: July 14, 2005, 05:08:27 PM »
Actually, a while ago most of them were saying that the earth's real map looked exactly like the logo of the UN

See, the north pole is in the middle and the south pole is actually the edge

Of course it doesnt make sense since that would mean the lines would get wider as you approach south "pole".

Actually I'm leaving for Tokyo on Saturday. I'm leaving from Montreal, stopping in minneapolis to change planes and then straight to tokyo. I'm gonna fly right over the pacific.

haven't you ever wondered why some people who travel their whole lives ask who the president is?
or if so-and-so is doing alright?

No relation at all to the current discussion...

then any astronauts returning home ranting of flat earth are sent to an asylum or 'disappear'

It would be all over the news if an astraunaut said that. Now maybe they'd be sent to an asylum, but we can't know because it never happened because all the astraunauts who have been to space saw that the earth was round.

the only way to know is to go up high enough to see the copies.

And since people have been to space and seen that the earth is a sphere, your myth is wrong.

since the universe is infinite (which we can agree on)

No, that is not a proven OR disproven fact yet. The universe may very well be finite actually. Nothing is less certain than it's infinity.

Quote
perhaps the world is an infinite flat plane.

No because it's a sphere. And nobody lives on the bottom because there is no bottom.
Although, I thought the same thing could be true about SPACE. It,s wrong about earth of course though. And since space is so extremely huge that you can't even imagine a billionth of it's size, there' s no way to know.

If you were not extremely stupid you would know that it's really not that mysterious at all.

you can see a tiny 2-foot flag on the moon through a telescope?
sure...
sounds like you've been looking at photoshopped pictures again.

Yes, you can see it.  Every scientist with a good enough telescope can. And since they don't all know each other, but can all see it, it means that its true.

Quote
Likewise, mars was mapped by the government. and is likely a fraud

If it was, all scientists would be saying it's a fraud.

14
Quote from: "reaperman93010"
perhaps we are the 'disc' that some have said.

I prefer the infinite flat plane idea.  everybody knows the universe is infinite, so why can't earth be a flat plane with infinite identical copies of everybody equidistant from eachother?

Because we could see it easily with the powerful telescopes that exist today. Although, your theory could be true as far as SPACE goes. But not earth of course. Because its round.

15
Quote from: "reaperman93010"
Even with a reasonable telescope, all you can see is a bright circle--much as you see with the sun and moon.

and don't get me started on the moon

Wrong. You can see a lot of details on other planets (not with the telescopes you buy of course). And Mars has been completely mapped. And probably others too.
And you can see the flag on the moon.

its not a lorge as you think

It's larger than you can even imagine. Your theories and myths are beyond ridiculous.

Quote
you'd have to ask those lying astronomers that one.

You're the lying bastard.
Every astronomers can't be lying because they don't all know each other and they can't discuss their "lies" so they all have the same version. So they're not lying, because they're all saying the same thing. YOU're lying in order to try and make your myth look true.

if it were at a low enough angle, hills alone would block it--the world is pretty big, afterall.  The atmosphere would disipate it as well over greater distances--just like a flashlight beam will not travel forever.

If it was that low we would all be dead.

he's gonna tell you that you can't be sure about the size of the sun because you havent been there yourself

dude, that's so creepy.
I think you're on the wrong side of this debate...

No, I'm on the side of truth and logic. Your argumentation is based on wacko theories and stupid lies. If one of the 2 sides makes claims that can not be proven it is YOURS.

Quote
but that observation would be rather useless unless I knew how far away it was anyway. It must be fairly close, or else it would light everywhere all at once.

No, because the earth is round.
And if it was flat, it would STILL light all the earth at once even if it was close. Wich it is not.

And if it were lit from the other side, it's possible that at least part of what causes the phases could be on that side as well.

"if, could", etc. Pulling crap out of your ass again. It's not lighted from the other side, it's lighted by the sun. This is easily observed. It is round... as round as the earth. You are wrong.

seriously, the shadows on the moon could be caused by any number of things--especially if it were paper thin and lit from the other side.

No. It if it was paper thin (flat) it would NOT have any shading.

Quote
But you're right, there are many other scenarios.

No, there are not. I didn't say that. I see that lies are necessary for you in order to maintain your beleif in your myth. You are lying to yourself.

No, it could not. If that was the case there would be no timezones on the moon either. There woulld always be a full moon or no moon at all, no in between.

I saw that OJ movie with the spacemen and the faked moon landing...

You must beleive every fucking stupid thing you see even if it makes no sense at all.

of course they're not talking about it! It's more than political suicide...

Your beleif based on what you would like to be true, to be able to tell us "I told you so" one day.

Quote
I also haven't seen enough of the moon to know what lights it, have you?

That's an invalid argument AGAIN. And yes it's easy to observe what lights it by observing how it is shaded in relation to where the sun is.
By your logic we should not beleive that anything exists except what we see for ourself.

Yes and that's because the eart is round.

Quote
seriously how do you know the sun's light shines in all directions? Perhaps you've personally viewed it somewhere besides earth

God what a douchebag. It lights up the moon, it lights up all the other planets, you can even see them from HERE. It even creates lunar eclipses when it's on the other side of the earth.
Just because I haven't seen something doesn't mean I have no proof. I've never seen disneyland either so hey, it may not be real right? Wrong.
YOU have to imply a lot of things to make your myth work. You have to imply that the telescopes are wrong, that every government  and every single scientist is lying, that those people are all TOGETHER to make you beleive that the earth is round (for what reason, you can't even say). Have you ever heard scientists discussing that? Have you ever heard 2 politicians talking about it?

You're a fucking goddamn asshole. Seriously, you're a dumbfuck.

Time zones are very possible on a flat earth.

Wrong. Not in the real world.

Quote
It would be extremely possible if you saw the sun as more of a flashlight and less of a round ball of gas.

The sun doesn't focus only on the earth and certainly not only on certain areas at a time. The sun sends light in all directions at once. Every spot on a flat surface would ALWAYS receive the same amount of light from the sun. This isnt the case in the real world therefore the earth isn't flat.

Quote
Another idea would involve us being covered by waves of 'dark air'.

Flat earthers bitch about how we "beleive" (lol) in unproven theories (wich is wrong), yet pull incredibly stupid theories straight out of their ass in order to try and prove their myth.
The very fact that you're making up theories in order to prove your beleif is because you're very unscientific. Science is about observing the world around us, THEN making theories and testing them. You start with a strict dogma and won't change your mind no matter how much logic and common sense we throw at you.
