Ok. I went through this major nostalgia period where I was recapturing my somewhat short childhood by watching my fave t.v. programs, and right now I'm bored doing work on Milton's Paradise Lost...

so to cut to the chase: Since evolution is forever happening, do you think any mutant genes would occure to create a sort of, super-hero species?

I mean, not to the extent that Marvel Comics created, like telepathy, laser-beam eyes, weather-controlling powers etc... but anything like maybe that loser that hopped about like a frog and had a frog tongue?

Or Beast, who became all hairy and blue and stuff?

Or. Failing a decent discussion, just list what sort of power you'd like to evolve to. :|

There is a new initiative being proposed, where absent parents who refuse to pay for the maintanance of their spawn, are named and shamed on an internet site of some sort, having their passports removed, and other penalties, such as having a curfew placed on them.

Is this a good idea? I wouldn't know. I think it would be beneficial to those parents who NEED the help of the absent parent.

Like, FES.fr or FES.sp?

I mean, how can we spread the word of the conspiracy and disillusion people if it's only in English?

That's why Luther translated the bible into German, so that people who couldn't read latin had a chance to understand at least some of it.

Cromwell passed a law in England doing the same with the bible...

So we need the faq in foreign languages!

I reckon they'll be zombies...Personally, I think that they will be psychologically damaged, these children. What do you all think?

I just read a very short, and interesting article today, using an essay by Hans Magnus Enzensberger to analyse the difference between Cho, the student gunman at Vtech's shootings. I'll put it up in a while, but I was wondering what people's thoughts were?

One of the quotes from the top of my head was something like "....a person going to the roof of a department store and sniping pedestrians below, or a man armed with nails blowing himself up at a Discotheque in Tel Aviv. The former we'd say "just snapped" whilst the other we would call a "terrorist" or "martyr" depending on our political perspectives".

What say you? Is there a difference between, say, Islamic Fundamentalists who blow themselves up, and Cho?

The Lounge / Just wondering

During and after the 9/11 attacks, in England it was all that people talked about. It was horrific - newspapers, the t.v, radio etc. It was all a person heard for almost a month.

I was wondering how big an impact the 7/7 attacks on London had in the US? Of course, it's impact in the UK was possibly slightly larger and longer lived than the 9/11 attacks, but it seems to me that maybe (just a guess) the US know very little about the goings on in the UK. Not sure really. Don't watch american t.v.

Cause the recent shootins in VTech just got me thinking. People are still talking about here, speculating, almost as much as a resident of the US.

So my question is, out of interest, how big an impact would something like this have had on the US if it had actually happened, at say, Oxford, Cambridge or even UCLondon?

Philosophy, Religion & Society / The most hated family in America.
« on: April 01, 2007, 03:38:26 PM »
I just watched BBC 2's Louis Theroux's documentary of his stay with the Phelps family in the US. The entire family is part of a church that is anti-everything. Mostly 'fags'. Anyone who sympathises with homosexuals, or is a homosexual is going to hell. In fact, anyone who is NOT part of their church is going straight to hell.

Here is what Louis thought of them

and here is where you can watch some clips. It was amusing... in a very distubing way. It was also sad, as there is one scene where a 7 year old was hit by a passing car - they indoctrinate and brainwash their children from a very young age, and they then become victims.

The clips are good actually - not jerky like Youtube.

What do you people think? Nutters?

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Rare Rainbow phenomenon

(did I spell the big P word right? ???)

A Fire Rainbow
This is a fire rainbow - the rarest of all naturally occuring atmospheric phenomena.

The picture was captured on the Idaho/Washington Border the even laster about 1 hour.

Clouds have to be cirrus, at least 20k feet in the air with just the right amount of ice crystals and the sun has to hit the clouds at precisely 58 degrees.

The Lounge / Firestone Fairy

the firestone fairy mummy was created by a bloke in derbyshire. What I found most amusing about this story is that "They believe this is just a cover-up so let the illusion continue." which reminded me of FE'ers somewhat...not going to start an argument here, but I also thought the whole story was just daft, and really in the spirit of April Fools.

My friend works as a life-guard, and last night he and his friends were left to lock up or whatever, and they dressed the practice dummy in clothes, added arms and legs, and he's *now*lying at the bottom of the pool there face down, awaiting some poor sap or cleaner to find him and try to fish him out...

What did you guys do for 1st April? :P

He filmed himself or was committing suicide whilst chatting online on a webcam. Another viewer elsewhere phoned the polics

original here

Hm. Not sure what to make of that. Other than it's sad no one could help him with his issues sooner.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Chimpanzees evolving?
« on: February 25, 2007, 10:34:38 AM »
Chimps using spears to hunt

I was talking to my bro about it and he came up with the very confusing theory that should the human race suddenly cop it, and chimps take over, they'd evolve and then they'd find our remains, just as we do, and be like "these are early forms of ..."

but what I was thinking was; would they have religion, would they be slightly different? Or human at all? etc. It's just one of those weird, can't get your head round it thoughts that I have sometimes. ??? ;D

What do you guys think? :P
