I mean, do you know how many flat earthers are part of the community?

Flat Earth Q&A / Earth is not a globe, perspective.
« on: December 06, 2012, 05:00:21 PM »
Ive heard a few times about earth not a globe idea of perspective, how because of humans not being able to see infinite, our idea of perspective is wrong, and once I was provided a link that was supposed to explain how it worked, it had some graphics with some points but there was no explanation what each point meant. Maybe I didn't understand the explanation so well because english is not my native language.
Anyway, to understand it better, i make this topic. Lets imagine there is an infinite corridor, or at least a very very long one, with no curvature at all, the with and height are the same, the observer is located exactly in the center, the direction he looks at its exactly parallel to the walls.
According to how perspective is commonly understanded,  the edges would have this directions.

(The triangles at the sides are the walls, the lower would be the floor, and the upper, the celling, all of them converging into the vanishing point)

How would this corridor look according to "earth not a globe" idea pf perspective?

I mean, why doesn't it radiate light in all directions but a spot?

Flat Earth Q&A / How to "see" earth is a sphere
« on: November 10, 2012, 11:41:47 AM »
Just look at this video...
#ws" class="bbc_link" target="_blank">Qu8k Rocket Launch Highlights - On-board GoPro HD at 22+ miles above earth

Ok that was not it... I made a drawing to easily explain how perspective works with the aperture of the camera lens and the shape of the earth.
Seeing by how round the earth looks in the video, one can asume its a pretty wide angle lens.

It could be even more than this, im not an expert at cameras, but that is not the point.

This is a representation of a big mass of earth surrounded by water on a flat surface and on a sphere (representing a continent) the red area is the are that is not visible by the camera, in a flat earth, in a high enough altitude it would be impossible to have earth on the horizon, you always see the ocean on the horizon (and the south pole, but almost imperceptible), because you can always see all of the earth.
On the other hand on a round earth it is very easy to see a "earth horizon" given the curvature.

If you watch the hole video, or others related, there are many points at where you can clearly see the earth going all the way to the horizon, you could also use Felix Baumgartner's videos to prove this, if at any point in any video of this kind, you see earth covering all the visible surface, now you know why that it.

Flat Earth General / I just found this circular argument.

Given that most of you guys seem like experts at internet debating i don't need to explain what that is, the thing is this:

"moon landing is a hoax, actually space travel is a hoax therefore round earth pictures do not count as evidence"
someone says: hey there is a space program, sending a shuttle/satellite/whatever to the space!
And the answer is
"It has to be a hoax because that program relies on the shuttle/satellite/whatever orbiting and the earth is flat, therefore is a lie"

How can we get pass that?

Flat Earth Q&A / Map mistakes
« on: November 09, 2012, 11:38:35 AM »
All the maps on the world are made based on the assumption that the earth is spherical, and they work, if the earth was flat it would be pretty easy to notice that distances and traveling time just dont match, the southern you are the more you can see maps just would not work (but they do).
How can none see this happen? what about the whalers in the southern pole hunting whales not realizing how the distances from one latitude point to another do not match with what the map indicates? what about flights from south america to south africa? why dont they notice that the time is longer than it should be?

Flat Earth Q&A / Hello everyone, there are some things i dont understand.
« on: November 09, 2012, 10:18:12 AM »
Hello i just joined the forum because i have a doubt, most people assume  we live in a round world, so we use a map based on a spherical world, we calculate distance based on that map, based on those distances calculations of planes and ships are made. Why dont sailors in the "southern" hemisphere never wonder, why is the southern pole has a much larger diameter than what it is supposed to be? Or, according to round earth maps, lets suppose the distance between south America and Africa is "X", but its actually not that, because according to a flat eath map is like 2X or even more (closer to the south pole), how do calculations of flight travel still work with round earth maps? or if pilots are using flat earth maps to fly, why don't they tell us?
The thing is, there are many people that could find the earth being flat by their own means for it to be possible for a small group to hide it, you talk about NASA lying to us about artificial satellites and  other stuff, so Russia space program is actually conspiring with them? even when they were in a "space race" against each other? But there are thousands of countries with space programs, not only those two, are all of them lying? in this age, even some third world countries can have a space program, its not physically possible to keep so many people of telling the truth.
