Flat Earth General / Mouse spotted in 'Mars' footage

Pretty clear evidence that sloppy NASA techs have been faking images. Just more proof that the 'Mars' rover images are actually taken somewhere in Arizona.

So this is a thing, guys. We of the new and improved site have been working on it for a while and, since reunification looks like it's gonna be a thing, it was suggested that we point it out to the fine folks of this forum. Feel free to register on the new site and make comments, suggestions, concerns, death threats, etc. in the linked thread or to talk in this one.

I've become quite interested in Tychonic astronomy as it relates to Flat Earth Theory and the Aetheric Wind. This paper demonstrates the mathematical equivalence of Neo-Tychonic and Copernican models of the Universe.

We get this video a lot, so I thought I'd make an easily found thread debunking it. If a mod could sticky this that would be awesome.

1. Other planets are round

According to Flat Earth Theory, the Earth and other planets are not really the same type of celestial body. To put it another way, which I'm sure everyone everywhere will take offense to, the Earth is different.

2. Time Zones

This is the first of a trend in this video, in which Henry (the host of MinutePhysics, for those not subscribed) assumes that the Flat Earth is exactly the same as the Round Earth in every way except for shape. The sun works in a manner similar to a spotlight in Flat Earth Theory, which is why time zones exist. When the Sun isn't pointing overhead, it's nighttime.

3. The Coriolis Effect

Once again, Henry is making assumptions. There are a few differing opinions about this, as Flat Earth Theory is not a unified theory. Some people doubt the existence of Coriolis as anything more than a theorized force, as the evidence for it is largely contrived. Others have various explanations for it, such as the Shadow of the Aetheric Wind theorized by myself.

4. Triangles

This is little more than conjecture. It is literally impossible to perform this experiment on the scale required.

5. The Sun

Henry is assuming again. The Sun's apparent movement is caused by the Sun actually moving. As for Eratosthenes's famous experiment to measure the diameter of the Earth, that assumes a Round Earth. If we assume a Flat Earth, the same experiment gives us the distance to the Sun.

6. Stars Change

Another assumption. This time, he's assuming that FE geography is just a Mercator map. It's not. The Earth is a disk centered around the North Pole, which would provide the same effect.

7. Magellan

Again, the Earth isn't in the shape of a Mercator map. That would be silly. Magellan and many others simply made a circle around the disk of the Earth.

8. The Horizon

This is just a perspective effect. First of all, apparently large waves will obscure apparently small objects. Therefore, looking out long distances over water you will of course be unable to see land on the other side. In addition, refraction has an effect. Some flat Earthers theorize an electromagnetic acceleration which appears to bend light upward.

9. Eclipses

Eclipses are caused by the sun going behind the moon, or vice versa. It's that simple. Once again, Henry is assuming everything is exactly the same.

10. Photographic Evidence

Most photographic evidence actually demonstrates what we would expect to see on a disk shaped, flat Earth: a circle with little to no apparent curvature. Add in camera distortion, and that's our explanation for low Earth photos. As for photos like the famous Blue Marble, that the space agencies of the World are involved in a conspiracy is depressingly obvious if you look at the evidence.

I'd appreciate it if you didn't respond to this thread, or if a mod locked it. It's not up for discussion. This is just to let newcomers know that they can't 'destroy FES with a single video' as so many hope to. It's not that easy. Sorry.

Seriously, this isn't a debate thread. If you want to debate it, feel free to make a new thread. I'm not responding to questions or concerns in this one.

Suggestions & Concerns / The Verification Question
« on: January 19, 2013, 08:57:50 AM »
Apparently we have a verification question for your first post, which makes sense. But apparently it asks how many 'I's there are in 'million', and the correct answer is 1. We should probably fix that. Not a great first impression.

Flat Earth General / The New FAQ Part 1- What Evidence Do You Have?
« on: November 14, 2012, 01:10:24 PM »
Alright everyone, here's a bit of a test. We've decided that the best way to make the new FAQ is to have multiple contributors write extended responses to each question (of which there will only be 10-20 of). As such, some of us thought it best to make a thread in which anyone (well, any FE'er) can contribute. So here's the first question to be answered:

2. What evidence do you have?

Obviously different sects of the society have different answers to this question. Some believe that the flatness evident in one's line of sight is enough, and others cite Rowbotham. Obviously EA proponents cannot talk about Bedford. So anyone who wants to should create a decent sized (long enough to get your point across, please don't go overboard or no one will ever read it) response to the question from their own personal perspective as a flat Earther, and we will choose some of the best responses from different perspectives to go into the FAQ. Any questions?

Suggestions & Concerns / Regarding the FAQ

Tom had an excellent idea on how to improve the FAQ, and since I'm in charge of such things I thought I'd champion it. He suggested that it be of a format similar to this:

This format allows us to easily and accurately answer questions while giving a wide range of responses. I say we try it. All in favor?

Flat Earth General / The Official 'Problems with the FAQ' Thread
« on: April 21, 2012, 01:48:06 PM »
Alright, here's the deal. I'm renovating the FAQ, but honestly have no idea where to start. So. If there's anything in the Wiki version of the FAQ that you specifically want changed, post it here and I'll change it.

In order to keep this thread on topic, I will personally delete any posts that are not about things we should change in the FAQ or are attempts to start an FET v. RET debate. If any other mods have an issue with that, let me know.

I'd like to take this moment to inform all of you that hijacking threads is looked down upon here. If you have a thread which is not being addressed, PM me. We aren't omnipotent and often miss threads, and if you specifically ask us to respond in a PM we will (or at least give you a good reason as to why nobody has).

Flat Earth Debate / Revision to AW Theory
« on: January 28, 2012, 09:32:44 AM »
After several days of careful research and thought, I have determined a scientifically sound response to issues raised regarding my theory in the thread 'Sniper Shot'. The issues in question are why the Earth does not heat from the Aetheric wind, and why Aetheric Wind is a superfluid despite being plasmic. I will answer the two separate issues in separate paragraphs.

1) The apparently (as shown below) gaseous superfluid that is Aether uses most of its energy in intermolecular bonds. This energy is not kinetic and therefore cannot be transferred into the Earth.

2) There is current research into plasmic or gaseous superfluids, as shown here:

The second link is most relevant. I may have to revise my theory in that the aether is not a superplasma, but rather a gas.

I ask that only members already familiar with AW Theory respond to this thread

Flat Earth General / Distances
« on: November 17, 2011, 02:33:04 PM »
I thought I'd make a thread about this, since everyone has been complaining about distances recently. The distances below the equator in FET are different from the ones in RET. Here's some calculations:

The length of a line of latitude below the equator:

Where y is the answer and x is the degree of the line (this is all in km, since we are an international forum).

r1 is the first radius (centered at the north pole).
θ1 is the first longitude.

r2 is the second radius.
θ2 is the second longitude.

d is the distance.

The Lounge / A Humble Apology
« on: November 11, 2011, 05:15:36 PM »
Good evening.

This afternoon in this forum, from this computer, I testified before some random angry noob in the Discussion Fora.

I answered his questions truthfully, including questions about my existence, questions no FE'er would ever want to answer.

Still, I must take complete responsibility for my actuality, both public and private. And that is why I am speaking to you tonight.

As you know, in a thread this morning, I was asked questions about the state of my being. While my answers were legally accurate, I did not volunteer information.

Indeed, I do not exist. I know that my lie was wrong. It constituted a critical lapse in judgment and a personal failure on my part for which I am solely and completely responsible.

But I told the noob today and I say to you now that at no time did I ask anyone to lie, to hide or destroy evidence or to take any other unlawful action.

I know that my public comments and my silence about this matter gave a false impression. I misled people, including even my fellow FE'ers and the administrators of the site. I deeply regret that.

I can only tell you I was motivated by many factors. First, by a desire to protect myself from the embarrassment of my own non-existence.

I was also very concerned about protecting my image. The fact that these questions were being asked in a butthurt inspired accusation, which has since been dismissed, was a consideration, too.

In addition, I had real and serious concerns about an independent counsel investigation that began with private messages 2 months ago, messages I might add about which an independent federal agency found no evidence of any wrongdoing by me over two years ago.

The independent counsel investigation moved on to my alleged family and friends, then into my private non-life. And now the investigation itself is under investigation.

This has gone on too long, cost too much and hurt too many innocent people.

Now, this matter is between me and my God, Jane. I must put it right, and I am prepared to do whatever it takes to do so.

Nothing is more important to me personally. But it is private, and I intend to reclaim my reputation. This is nobody's business but mine.

Even FE'ers have secrets. It is time to stop the pursuit of personal destruction and the prying into personal states of being and get on with our own lives.

Our society has been distracted by this matter for too long, and I take my responsibility for my part in all of this. That is all I can do.

Now it is time -- in fact, it is past time to move on.

We have important work to do -- real opportunities to seize, real problems to solve, real security matters to face.

And so tonight, I ask you to turn away from the spectacle of the past seven months, to repair the fabric of our national discourse, and to return our attention to all the challenges and all the promise of the next Flat Earth Society century.

Thank you for reading. And good night.

Flat Earth General / Global Warming and the Infinite Earth
« on: October 27, 2011, 01:28:42 PM »
While trying to convince Wardogg to accept scientific evidence regarding Global Warming and to stop thinking it's some kind of giant scientific conspiracy, the following problem occurred to me: how does it work if the Earth is the Davis model? In an infinite disk the greenhouse gasses would diffuse outward, not be trapped in our portion.

The Lounge / Terrorizing people
« on: October 24, 2011, 12:58:29 PM »
My brother recently had a falling out with two of his friends, and they stole some of his stuff. For various reasons, he can't get the stuff back through legal means. As one of them is having a 21st birthday tomorrow and there will be drinking, he's planning to call the police on them (it's the older of the two that's having the birthday). He's also hoping that they'll be smoking pot when the police show up. So, two questions:

1) What, ethically, is your opinion on this?
2) Does anyone have any other ideas? He wants to terrorize them until they give it back.
