Flat Earth General / Flat Earth Games - more conspiracy?
« on: August 09, 2013, 09:39:36 PM »
There is a game company in Sydney called Flat Earth Games.

http://www.flatearthgames.com.au/?page_id=7

Though small at the moment, I can't help but wonder if they are a part of the conspiracy. They even have a sophisticated looking map. I'm opening this to a general discussion.

Btw, the game is really cool.

The Lounge / Jury duty
« on: June 22, 2013, 02:43:40 AM »
Ok.. well I served for the first time on the a jury the other day. It was a great experience.. an eyeopener of sorts. Without going into the specifics of the case I found it great to test out one's argumentive skills.. the person in question was clearly not guilty of the crime but I thought I would play the devil's advocate and draw things out by arguing he was. Essentially it was 10 vs 2 (or more 1 and a half, as one man couldn't make up his mind). Anyway, great fun was had trolling in a jury room but eventually and most unfortunately (I guess) I had to concede (laugh and make fun all you want).

Just wondering if anyone else has had this chance and what their thoughts were...

This article is just so full of wtf. To quote the first sentence;
"A mother on trial in southern France has defended herself for dressing her three-year-old son in a T-shirt reading "I am a bomb" and "Born on September 11"."

However the thing that really struck a chord with me is this woman has decided that 'Jihad' is an appropriate name for her child! I think it should've been at that moment that the authorities were involved, her children removed and renamed for their own sake.

The Lounge / buying a new mobile phone
« on: February 11, 2013, 02:21:24 AM »
The time has come for me to buy a new mobile phone. I really cant be assed researching any of this and I dont want to be conned by the first salesperson I come in contact with.  I am looking at an Iphone 5 or, more preferably, a Samsung Galaxy S111. Any advice on what to buy or on plans and what not would be very appreciated. I live in Australia so I'm hoping an Aussie might be able to give pointers about the plans they are on.
tl;dr -what phone should I buy? is it better to buy outright and then get a plan? or buy on a plan and contract?

Voting lines are open and what great choices and variety there is. I'm personally a little surprised that NWA is in there, partially because they aren't at all rock, but also just because.

Let us know if you vote. Rush was my choice. I really, really like Chic too though.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / John Templeton Foundation -Big Questions
« on: October 28, 2012, 05:48:54 AM »
I'm not sure how many people have been following this but there is some pretty cool questions being asked and answered on the site below. The summary is a big philosophical type question is posed and relevant experts (for lack of a better word) trying to answer it. A fair range of opinions are backed up on a broad range of topics by a wide variety of interesting people. I'll put one I really liked below. There's a bit of other nice stuff going on around the site too.

Any thoughts? A good idea? Potential bad ideas?
Personally I think ther needs to be some sort of manual override system and that licences should still mandatory. In other words, not totally convinced.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Too fat for death row
« on: September 18, 2012, 01:28:00 AM »
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8534754/man-too-fat-to-be-executed

So some guy on death row is too fat to be executed. Should his execution be delayed (it has already been about 30 years delayed) just because it may cause him some agony? Or should they just give it a go instead? Mayby use a shotgun like he did on his poor victim? Or perhaps just give him 50 donuts a day until he dies from obesity?

Suggestions & Concerns / 120 seconds to wait to report
« on: May 09, 2012, 05:31:00 PM »
Why must we wait 120 seconds between each report we make? Granted, I am not making them very regularly, but it is annoying when you keep clicking on 'new replies' only to find you are following a spammer around and really just reading the same posts he keeps putting up.

Now to me, it also sounds a little silly if there were few moderators online or, as now, many online but few stopping the problem. I could easily create an account and post thousands of spam posts in a matter of minutes all the while infuriating non mods who have to keep sifting through it all, as they can only report a LOT slower than I can post my spam. (Not that I would do this, I am just trying to expose the situation).

Can this be fixed so report times are less? Or can we get better mods?

« on: April 30, 2012, 02:02:49 AM »
is?

Not a very specific thread, but I was wondering what bothers people about the world we live in?

In short, in 50-100 years time, we have very little idea of what the world will be like. What sort of world do we want for future generations and what problems should we be addressing before that time arrives?
