Suggestions & Concerns / Forum name change

Are we able to change our names still? I'd like to change mine. Thanks

Philosophy, Religion & Society / What's wrong with Capitalism?
« on: October 14, 2013, 03:58:04 PM »
The compensation you receive is proportional to the services you offer society. It seems like natural selection is alive and well in Capitalism. Why would we want to go against the fundamental forces of the universe?

In an unexpected turn of events, I have been granted, as a gift, the choice of a laptop. Now, I already have one in mind that I am heavily considering, but I'd just like to see what you all are using first and how you like it. Unlike Saddam, I like to discuss these things with skinny nerds first before making a purchase.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / I am considering ordering a new phone
« on: September 25, 2013, 01:18:52 AM »

I like it because of its premium construction. Oh so premium.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / iOS 7
« on: September 17, 2013, 10:32:58 PM »
Only 11 hours, 28 minutes until the update arrives. Are you iPhone users excited for it? Which features are you most looking forward to?

I'd like to get on board with Android like everyone else, but none of the phones it runs on strike me as being any good. The Nexus 4, Galaxy S4 and the HTC One are supposedly the cream of the crop, but they just feel so cheap even compared to my oldish iPhone 4. The "premium" feel of the iPhone line has spoiled me I guess and it seems as though the Ubuntu Edge won't get its funding after all  >:(

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Newegg Stores
« on: August 13, 2013, 11:52:35 AM »
Newegg will be opening a physical store this weekend, offering the latest in technology from intel, Sony, and Samsung. They're going to be offering gifts to the first 100 customers each day. However, the store will only be open for 3 days as sort of a test to see if a thing like that could work. It's 5 hours away from where I live and I'm debating going or not.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Headphones
« on: July 09, 2013, 02:17:11 PM »
Which headphones do you use? I've had a pair of Sennheiser HD 485s for 6 years and they still work as well as they did when I got them. I usually use a pair of cheap ear buds when I'm bench pressing body builders in the gym. However I'm planning on getting the PX-100 IIs soon for mobile use.

The Lounge / Which MBTI type are you?
« on: July 07, 2013, 10:15:30 PM »

I got INTP, although I feel like I used to be something else that I grew out of. I probably used to be an INFJ.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / I got an iPhone 4
« on: July 07, 2013, 12:06:54 AM »
It's my first "smartphone" so that could be one of the reasons I enjoy it so much. iOS is very smooth, and has great functionality. I like that it uses aluminum in its construction instead of the cheap plastic that many of the android based phones use. My only complaint is that the screen is a bit too small. Ill be looking forward to the iPhone 6 and its (hopefully) larger screen.

Yes, I still have the book. I'm sorry eddy Babby. If I don't send it within a week Lord Wilmire can ban me.

Arts & Entertainment / Destiny seems like a pretty cool game so far
« on: February 19, 2013, 11:34:09 PM »

What should I do with it?

I wonder if the license will allow me to trade it to someone for Skyrim. I'm also getting Windows 8 Professional for the hell of it.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / New build
« on: February 09, 2013, 08:23:31 PM »
I put this together for gaming and running virtual machines.

CPU: A10-5800K (running stock right now)
MB: ASRock FM2A85X Extreme6
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (OCed to 2133MHz)
PSU: Antec BP550
Case: Cooler Master Storm Scout 2
HDD: A janky 1TB Western Digital Green that I pulled out of an external drive to save money. Will become a storage drive only soon.
Graphics Card: None at the moment
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master GeminII

What must I do to become a full fledged computer scientist?

You've probably all heard about this, but a massive new spying thingy is opening in Utah capable of processing shitloads of data and shit.

If they don't care about us, what's to stop them from spying on us?

Yes I used a Fox News source because of how obvious it is that they're trying to make it seem like it isn't a threat to civil liberties.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Who owns government buildings?
« on: June 16, 2012, 09:06:36 PM »
Civilians right? I'm mainly talking about the US here, but it can apply to any other country. They're paid for by citizens, and are therefore owned by them collectively. Every time you pay taxes you buy a small share of government property.

I always see signs on the freeway saying "your tax dollars are at working building you a new road" or whatever. But, when you try and enter a secure facility without clearance, you have guns pointed in your face. So what's the difference here? They're both paid for by taxpayers. It seems like the difference is that the secure facilities are run by douchebags with guns.

Arts & Entertainment / Prometheus *Spoilers*

Has anyone seen it? I didn't think much of all the hype until I realized it was by Ridley Scott.

The Lounge / I got burned from moonlight just now

I walked outside and my face was slightly burned. I wish I had read the sticky beforehand. Fuck my life.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / How much power do SSDs use?
« on: May 25, 2012, 03:20:12 AM »
It maybe be a dumb question, but I was just wondering. Way less than a conventional hard drive right?

It overheats sometimes with the default fan setting. It's an ATI Radeon x850xt (yes old I know). Are there any programs I can use that would allow me to increase the fan speed?

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Can music be objectively good or bad?
« on: March 28, 2012, 12:30:40 AM »
From a technical standpoint, it seems like some music is superior to other music. There are bands that I don't listen to that I can still recognize as being good. Also, there are bands that I listen to that I still like, but recognize as being terrible.

For example, is Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata objectively better than the latest song from Skrillex?

I'm starting to hate our government. The NDAA, the Patriot Act, legislation favoring corporations and now this? Can we have a revolution already?

If any Feds are reading this, fuck you. You suck massive cocks.

I'm planning on replacing this relic I have. I'd like to be able to play Skyrim on ultra settings. So far, I've cooked this up on

Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor

Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory

Video Card: SAPPHIRE 100314-3L Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Motherboard: ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda ST3250312AS 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
I would have liked to get a solid state hard drive, but they're just too expensive for my budget.

Case: Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Power Supply: COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS500-PCARD3-US 500W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply

The total for everything is $691.92. It's definitely a budget PC, and if I wanted to spend more money, I'd probably go Intel/Nvidia instead. I've heard AMD is great for gaming though and it's probably more power efficient. Thoughts? I've never built a computer before.
