Flat Earth Debate / A plane flying north should go sideways?
« on: August 10, 2016, 08:05:42 AM »
I saw this theory on a video, not sure if its been discussed...

A plane takimg off from the equator is travelling at 1000mph westwards just to stay in the same place above the earth.
As a plane travels exactly north it should be experiencing sideways movement because the earth underneath is spinning slower and slower as the plane travels north?

The plane is still travelling 1000mph to the east but the earth underneath at 40 degrees longitude would only be spinning at about 500mph?

To recieve a tropho-scatter signal you need a satellite dish

and it has to be angled perfectly
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropospheric_scatter

Quote
Tropospheric scatter is a fairly secure method of propagation as dish alignment is critical, making it extremely difficult to intercept the signals, especially if transmitted across open water, making them highly attractive to military users.

Flat Earth Debate / NASA uses balloons
« on: June 08, 2016, 01:41:53 PM »

It's got solar panels and scientific equipment,

If they are doing it to save money...well there is no point in ever using satellites then.

And private corporations like satTV would do the same thing

Flat Earth Debate / real trip to the moon
« on: June 05, 2016, 02:51:52 AM »
What would be taken/have to happen for a real journey to the moon if it was in the place scientists say it is and is the commonly accepted size?

First of all computer training, how to land on a body of different gravity
Remote controlled landers to land on the moon for real life training.
Remote controlled lem ascent training to dock with the module to get back to earth.
An oxygen line going to each person walking on the moon for backup
Redundancy two or three landers and backup crew.

Flat Earth Debate / mythbusters faking a curved horizon
« on: May 11, 2016, 05:46:05 PM »
One of the mythbusters went on a U2 high altitude flight

They are using a fisheye lens, the higher the horizon is in the frame, the more curved it will appear

In this shot the plane was banking so the horizon is higher in the frame and therefore more curved

But as you can see the horizon behind him is perfectly flat at the same altitude

You can throw a tennis ball to a friend on a moving train and it will behave as if the train is still.

Now try doing it when the train is going around in a circle, the ball will always end up to the left of where it should have landed.

In physics when something travels in a circular path it's velocity is constantly changing. The object may have a constant speed but it is constantly changing direction to get a circular path.

Going around a corner in a car at a constant speed still makes the passengers move to one side.

So if the earth is circling the sun it's angular velocity should be constantly changing so we should feel it
This ride goes around at a constant speed but the chairs still flare outwards

Flat Earth Debate / light shouldn't be able to travel far
« on: May 09, 2016, 02:25:44 PM »
When light travels it expands in all directions, like a balloon inflating.
So the power of the light decreases greatly as it travels
Official source here:
https://van.physics.illinois.edu/qa/listing.php?id=21368
Read the third paragraph, he talks about light expanding and getting weaker.

It seems unlikely that light would be able to travel billions of miles without getting too weak to detect.

The scientist says lights power decreases by the distance travelled squared,is that an exponential decrease?

The same thing applies to any wave.
You need a huge transmitter just to get a radio signal to broadcast over several miles.

Just thinking about our sun, we are really close to our sun compared to a distant Star but our sun can only heat us up to about 120 degree Fahrenheit which isn't much compared to how hot it is really.

Flat Earth Debate / is this evidence of a fake spacewalk?

From 39 minutes to 41 it seems like the buckle on the end of the strap is showing buoyancy, it constantly goes up to point in the same direction ,even when the astronaut pushes it out of the way
