Flat Earth General / 'Globe Lie' convention UK

13-15 September. Is anyone from here planning to go?

I'm thinking about dropping by. Very curious to see some genuine flat-earthists 'in action'. I suspect it may not always be easy to keep a straight face, but we'll see...

Spanish football club renamed Flat Earth FC

It is yet to be seen if this name change will stand the test of time or will gain the club new followers from around the globe.

Only a small club but quite funny nonetheless.

NASA's Parker Solar Probe launches in about an hour.

Quite an exciting mission to put a probe into the sun's corona. Of course, with a trip of around 5,000 miles it should be there in no time...

Technology, Science & Alt Science / In depth interview with Brian Cox
« on: February 09, 2017, 01:49:13 PM »
I know Professor Cox is very popular with many on these boards, so I thought I'd share this that I came across:

Apologies if this has been posted before. A search for 'Brian Cox' came up with ten pages that I didn't want to wade through.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Hydrostatics question

I stumbled upon a question, as you do...

A piece of wood is floating in water kept in a bottle. The bottle is connected to an air pump. Neglect the compressibility of water. When more air is pushed into the bottle from the pump, the piece of wood will float with
(a) larger part in the water
(b) lesser part in the water
(c) same part in the water
(d) it will sink

It's said the official answer is (c). I'm leaning towards (b), although with only a slight effect. What do others think?

Flat Earth General / Ole RÝmer
« on: December 07, 2016, 01:30:35 AM »
So, today's Google doodle celebrates the 340th anniversary of Ole RÝmer's (somewhat approximate) determination of the speed of light by observing the eclipses of Jupiter's moon Io.

Is there a flat earth model under which this would have been possible - by which I mean not just the observations of Io, but also the application of the geometry of the solar system then to approximate the speed of light? Or was the hapless Dane fooled into thinking he was doing something he wasn't?

Flat Earth General / NASA 'lies'
« on: May 31, 2016, 01:30:59 PM »
Quite often on these boards it's asserted or implicated that NASA tells lies.

Does anyone have any specific, concrete examples of NASA lying? By this I mean examples either of NASA admitting to falsehood, or of there being generally and authoritatively accepted evidence that contradicts what NASA has said.

I'm not asking for conspiracy theory kind of stuff, or people's opinions. Just proper evidence. Ideally there would be citations, both for what NASA has claimed and also for the contradiction.

Flat Earth General / Free Thinkers
« on: January 30, 2016, 01:25:57 PM »
The term "Free thinker" comes up quite a lot in this forum. So I was wondering...

Who here would describe themselves as a free thinker? And if so, what do you mean by that?

What is it that distinguishes someone who is a free thinker from one who is not?

I've been browsing this site for a couple of weeks with some fascination. I'm curious about the people who come here, and what they actually believe about the shape of the earth. Hence this poll. If it has been done before and recently, apologies. Genuinely honest answers are encouraged.
