Flat Earth Q&A / Standards
« on: June 18, 2014, 09:38:45 AM »
I would like to try and categorise the diferent FE worldviews there are out there.  I appreciate that there is a natural disagreement on the finer points, but I would be interested to see where the points of divergence are.

I think that all FEr's would agree that the earth is flat.

It seems to me that the next points would be gravity (universal acceleration), bendy light, the Ice Dome, the Ice Wall.

Where do the differences come in to play?

It's just that I have not seen him (or her) and no amount of logical deduction or induction results in a universe with Scepti in it.

I think Scepti is a covert black ops psych warfare programme run by the US military industrial complex to see how far they can push the general public - how much can you get them to swallow.

Would Scepti pass a Turing test?

Apparently this film is a documentary about how the old cosmology is wrong, and the earth is the centre of the universe after all.

Is this something that affects a flat earth view, or does FET have nothing to say about the location of the earth in space?

If (as some people will say) there is no "space", what is the earth in?

Is Mr Rowbotham's Wikipedia entry accurate?

The Lounge / End of Life?

In the last few days, discussions on the upper fora seem to have died a death.

None of what I perceive to be the regulars are posting, Tom has said that he only logs on for 15 minutes a day, and most of the activity is on general discussion rather than FE topics.

Why is this?  The conversations with the FETers who were willing to have a proper debate were always entertaining, but it seems that people are just giving up.  I have no issue with the FES turning into a social society, but if the most ardent FE supporters are no longer giving voice, does that mean that they no longer believe in FET?

If not, why are they no longer active?

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Religion

Out of interest, how many FErs have a strong faith?

I ask because I was speaking with a friend this afternoon, and we both agreed that the most frightening thing we had heard was from a fundamentalist who asked "if you don't believe in God, why are you good?". As though the questioner was effectively saying that "if I had no faith, I would be capable of anything".

Which leads me to the real question, which is:

Does religion lead people to do things that are worse than what they would do if they were unconstrained?

I recognise some of the debating style

Scepti can by just as funny and just as adept at getting people to wind themselves up with rope they have woven themselves.

What do we all think about Chemtrails then?

I thought it would be interesting to find where in the world people are and what they do.

I'm in the UK and a lawyer.

Anyone else?

Flat Earth General / Convention!
« on: March 23, 2013, 02:44:20 PM »
I think we should have a flat earth convention.

A live forum where FErs and RErs can get together to have a proper debate.

There are enough of us here to get a decent discount from a conference hotel, so if we pick a weekend we can do it properly.  We can have lectures from the Flat Earthers, lectures from the Round Earthers, and breakout areas for those who are not either mainstream Flat Earthers or Round Earthers.

I myself believe in a round earth, but if the flat earthers intend to be taken seriously they should stand up and be counted.

I would be happy to organise this; is anyone interested?

If so, what location and time of year would be best?

The Lounge / Dinner for Scepti
« on: March 09, 2013, 11:28:54 AM »
I have been hugely entertained by Scepti's posts and would like to return the favour by buying him dinner.

I don't know where in the UK he is (I assume he is in the UK) but wonder if anyone else would be interested in joining me?  If so, please reply here.  The aim would be to have a genuine and sincere debate over a meal; I think we would not all agree with each other but the intellectual endeavour should be fun.

Scepti, do you accept?  If so, I will arrange things for a time and place convenient for you.

I should point out that sometimes on these forums feelings run high.  This is intended solely as a friendly meeting - trolls please ignore this message.

Thank you.
