Flat Earth Q&A / Farewell all!
« on: August 25, 2008, 11:58:44 AM »
Hey all, I haven't been on in...ages, and I thought I'd make a formal goodbye here, seeing how much time I spent here at one time. At any rate, I'm afraid I won't be going on here anymore, and I wanted to give some farewells to those I was most fond of debating with. I'd especially like to note to Dogplatter, TheEngineer, and Username for being excellent debaters on the other side of the fence, whether playing Devi's advocate, or actually believing in FE. Of course, no farewell would be complete without mentioning the ever-present and ever-humorous Tom Bishop, of whom I shall always remember. So, have fun debating, and it was great debating with and against you all!

Flat Earth Debate / High-Altitude Amateur balloon pics...
« on: April 06, 2008, 11:09:26 AM »
This has been done before, but how do FE'ers explain amateur balloon pics like this, which clearly, towards the end, show curvature?

http://balloons.space.edu/habp/project_4/airphotos.html

They, also, clearly, have no connection to any government agency, so conspiracy doesn't do....

Flat Earth Debate / Parallax and the Moon?
« on: February 25, 2008, 12:04:25 PM »
http://www.perseus.gr/Astro-Lunar-Parallax.htm

So, what's the explanation for this?

Curvature/Non-curvature of the Earth cannot account for such a tremendous difference in distance, can it? So, what gives? Furthermore, this experiment can be carried out by anyone...no?

Flat Earth Debate / The obvious issue with the FE Map...
« on: February 14, 2008, 11:12:05 AM »
Now, I have seen this raised, but never sufficiently answered.

Now, the Earth is flat, yes? and its basically a circle, yes? Now why do we curve along paths? I mean, why do objects tend to veer left or right towards the North pole? I've heard magnetism, yet plastic and aluminum objects do it, and they all do it the same, without regard to ferrous content. So...what? And before anyone mentions the stupid question they are about to say about RE, please remember one word: Geodesics.

Flat Earth Q&A / Mass of the Sun?
« on: February 07, 2008, 10:32:50 AM »
What is the mass of the Sun in FE? That's important, because there are many limiting factors, such as maximum density of the Sun possible, gravity on Earth, and so on. It's also important because the orbit of the planets would otherwise have to be adjusted. You also may not have more than 10 solar masses, because you can't go denser than the densest neutron stars....

So...for all FE'ers, what is the mass of the Sun?

Flat Earth Q&A / FE Models
« on: February 04, 2008, 12:20:47 PM »
As all of us know, FE Models seem to differ substantially. There seem to be 3 or 4 main models, for each FE'er here. l'll list a few of them, along with some Q&A about some of them. I hope that this thread will end up as a Q&A for each model, so each model can attempt to explain itself with some level of consistency. I've borrowed liberally from a lot of places, from around the forums. I plan on expanding this later.

By no means is this complete, and probably inaccurate in many places. Feel free to post if you feel I have accidentally misunderstood/mixed up an explanation in your model with another person's. Also feel free to post if you have your own serious model for another FE(I will only post it if you believe it, and I know every FE'er).

I have done my very best to keep this somewhat objective, but meh...I bet some of my bias shows through. For the record, and for newer people, or those who view this topic in the far future, I am an RE'er.

Username's Model

Are the Moon/Planets flat or round?

New question; waiting on answers

Is the Earth infinite or finite?

The Earth is infinite.

What is the mass and size of the Sun, Moon, and stars?

Not answered to my knowledge

- Can you explain the sinking ship effect without using Rowbotham's laws of perspective(derided by many)?

Somewhat.  A fifth force caused by something in the earth that pulls photons down faster across "long" distances.

- Does gravity exist outside of the Earth?

Yes, it applies to everything, including the Earth.

- Why is there so much refraction through the atmosphere?

The effect is caused by aether.(Q-Luminiferous aether?)

- Does the sun's light bounce of the Earth to form moon phases?

     - If so, why are the line of the phases so smooth, and why are phases predictable?

     - If not, what causes moon phases?

Moonphases are a massive 'weather' system on the moon.

- Does the shadow object exist and if so, why is it only observed when passing in front of the moon/sun and not the stars?

Its a weather system on the moon.

- What is your explanation for the Coriolis effect?

Not answered as of yet

- What is your explanation for known airline trips on the Southern Hemisphere and their times?

Unknown. A theory is being formulated.

The Earth is infinite.

Not answered to my knowledge

- Can you explain the sinking ship effect without using Rowbotham's laws of perspective(derided by many)?

Rowbotham's laws of perspective are sufficient.

- Does gravity exist outside of the Earth?

Yes, it applies to everything except Earth. The Earth's gravity is due to a Universal Accelerator, powered by an extremely large source of Dark Energy.

- Why is there so much refraction through the atmosphere?

Rowbotham's perspective laws.

- Does the sun's light bounce of the Earth to form moon phases?

     - If so, why are the line of the phases so smooth, and why are phases predictable?

     - If not, what causes moon phases?

Yes. The Shadow object blocks parts of the light. The Phases are predictable due to previous observations extrapolated.

- Does the shadow object exist and if so, why is it only observed when passing in front of the moon/sun and not the stars?

Yes, it exists. It is possibly semi-transparent, etc...

- What is your explanation for the Coriolis effect?

Gravitational attraction from stars pulls to the sides. The stars move at extremely rapid speeds in odd formations in order to form the Coriolis effect. The stars that affect the Southern Hemisphere work in the opposite direction.

- What is your explanation for known airline trips on the Southern Hemisphere and their times?

Superfast jet streams, possibly travelling at up to 2000 MPH.

The Earth is finite.

Not answered to my knowledge

- Can you explain the sinking ship effect without using Rowbotham's laws of perspective(derided by many)?

Perspective (which, by the way, isn't Rowbothams. Its existence is empirically evident by looking at any object. Stuff gets smaller the further away it is, face it) covers most of it, though in certain conditions the vanishing point is dictated by atmolayeric distortion.

- Does gravity exist outside of the Earth?

No, gravity does not exist. Cavendish is flawed, and it is due to air movement that Cavendish experiments have given a false result. The Earth's gravity is due to a Universal Accelerator, powered by an extremely large source of Dark Energy.

- Why is there so much refraction through the atmosphere?

There's refraction through the atmolayer because it isn't perfectly transparent.

- Does the sun's light bounce of the Earth to form moon phases?

     - If so, why are the line of the phases so smooth, and why are phases predictable?

     - If not, what causes moon phases?

Not answered to my knowledge

- Does the shadow object exist and if so, why is it only observed when passing in front of the moon/sun and not the stars?

Yes, it exists. It's possible that more than one exists. And I'd argue, perhaps, that there is no evidence that it does not pass in front of stars. Not necessarily falsifiable.

- What is your explanation for the Coriolis effect?

Not answered to my knowledge

- What is your explanation for known airline trips on the Southern Hemisphere and their times?

Unknown. The airlines, being a Satanic cult, may be lying, or some other form of treachery, such as faster planes. A theory is still being formulated.

Flat Earth Debate / Hybrid Solar Eclipses...
« on: January 31, 2008, 10:57:10 AM »
How does FET explain away hybrid solar eclipses? I'm interested, because it seems difficult.

For those who don't know, a hybrid solar eclipse occurs when in some areas, there is a total solar eclipse, where the moon completely covers the sun, whereas in another area, the moon does not completely cover the sun, its concentric within the Sun. In RET, its due to the extra distance, but what is it in FET?

EDIT: Before anyone states the obvious, remember that the circles are concentric, not shifted over in one direction or another.

Flat Earth Debate / Coriolis Effect revisited...
« on: January 28, 2008, 12:37:19 PM »
I still want to hear an answer to this phenomenon, as I proved rather conclusively that it was not the stars, the sun, or the moon. Furthermore, no explanation as to why an upward pull would lend itself to going in circles... Tom? Entertainment, if you don't mind?

Flat Earth Q&A / Round Earth Believer's subforum?
« on: January 11, 2008, 11:49:36 AM »
Why don't we get one? It'd be nice to have a place where we can marshal our arguments, and talk about normal science. I'd like to have a subforum where we can talk, and do the kinda stuff that FE does in theirs. Sure, this is an FE forum, but we still would like one, since most of us are RE'ers. I also suspect it would do away with a lot of the spam you guys get. I'd also like it so you can either get into the FEB or REB subforum, not both. Discuss?

Flat Earth Q&A / Mirrors on the Moon
« on: January 09, 2008, 10:17:07 AM »
Quote from: Wikipedia
The Apollo 11, 14, and 15 missions left retro-reflectors on the Moon as part of the Lunar Laser Ranging Experiment. They are commonly considered to be one of the strongest pieces of evidence against a Moon landing hoax.
Quote from: NASA
By beaming laser pulses at the reflector from Earth, scientists have been able to determine the round-trip travel time that gives the distance between the two bodies at any time to an accuracy of about 3 centimeters.

OK, now astronomers regularly ping these mirrors with light, and, using the speed of light, calculate the distance of the moon to equal 385,000 km, which is further than you guys claim the sun is(you claim 3000 miles). How does this tally in your model? It seems the only way to explain this away is to add every astronomer who has done this to your list of conspirators...

The Lounge / New Hampshire Democratic Primary Predictions
« on: January 04, 2008, 04:39:24 PM »
Let the predictions begin! Bear in mind that this is not who you would like to win, just who you think will win. Obviously who you like will affect your prediction, but still, try to be impartial...

This time the poll will close before the primaries, preventing the odd burst of "correct" predictions we observed last time. The results will be released at the end, so we can see whether we are the political gurus we think we are! Last time we outdid the pundits with our predictions on both sides, we can do it again!

Note: If you don't care, prove it by not posting....::)

I think Huckabee will win due to his easygoing nature. Romney has a good chance though. If there was money involved, I wouldn't bet, but since there's nothing on this one, Huckabee it is!

I think Obama will win due to the youth vote and larger than expected turnout. Clinton and Edwards are both in this one though, and depending on turnout scenarios, any could win. If there was money involved, I wouldn't bet, but since there's nothing on this one, Obama it is!

Flat Earth Q&A / The origins of a flat earth...
« on: December 27, 2007, 11:11:59 PM »
Now that I've heard a lot of arguments, I'm going to ask a rather irritating question. From where did this flat earth arise? The big bang predicts spherical, mostly gaseous objects, but how did a flat earth get lost in the equations?

18
Flat Earth Q&A / What about...the Coriolis effect?
« on: December 27, 2007, 10:55:18 PM »
Now, heres one I want to hear answered. How do FE'ers explain the Coriolis effect without the Earth being curved? And remember, the Coriolis effect affects hurricanes and so on, so it certainly exists. Well?

Flat Earth Q&A / The Seasons....
« on: December 27, 2007, 03:03:56 PM »
OK, I read the official explanation for the seasons, but it defies Newton. What is pulling the Sun towards the Earth, and if its gravity, why has the sun not crashed into the Earth? What magical force would push the Sun back? If it was conservation of angular momentum, why is summer just as long as winter?

Flat Earth Q&A / ALL flat earthers: Draw your earth!
« on: December 27, 2007, 02:31:55 PM »
OK, I've been a little confused by the inconsistency I've been hearing about the shape of the earth from FE'ers. I'd all Flat Earther's interested to draw a picture of what they think the earth looks like. Draw it any way you feel will convey you're idea of how the earth looks from space. No need to get fancy, just an easy drawing.

Flat Earth Q&A / Poles and Magnetism...
« on: December 27, 2007, 12:29:23 PM »
How does your magnificent theory describe our dear friend the north and south magnetic poles, my friends? Now, RE describes a spinning inner and outer core, which is consistent with EM theory, but how does flat earth explain this away? We do agree that compasses and magnetism exist, yes? Or is everyone with a compass part of the "conspiracy"? Oh wait, that includes me! Lets find out the latest grand explanation of the FE'ers. The hilarious thing is that the inner core was not discovered until 1936, so they can't exactly turn to their old idiot, Rowbotham...

Oh, and by the way, if you don't agree with current theories of magnetism, you have to figure out how aurora's work. Just mentioning, as I'm sure this is going to happen. Oh, and seismic experiments have proved the inner and outer core using the timing of seismic events traveling through the earth. So yeah, don't give me any nonsense about the cores and mantle not existing. Oh, and by the way, how is it that you define the earth in 3D space(since we agree on that, I hope)? As a 2D object  in a 3D world(pretty tough to imagine)? As a paper thin wafer? Or as a cakeish object, with us on the top?

Happy explaining, and have a happy new year. Cheers!
