The Lounge / I regret to inform you all....
« on: February 16, 2008, 08:21:17 AM »
....That as of wednesday, I'll be leaving you all. I'm moving into a new place (finally), at 22 I feel it's time to fly the roost and stop living with my mother. However, the lease doesn't start until 1st March, but I'll be boxing up all of my stuff on wednesday because I don't actually have that much free time (despite what my time here would lead you to believe.)

So, I'll be offline for a couple of weeks, possibly more, because I have to sort out internet at the new place.

Don't miss me too much,
;D

The Lounge / Flat Earth Poetry...
« on: February 06, 2008, 10:02:56 AM »
While gazing upon the night sky,
A vision came to me,
The Earth is Flat! Not round, as it appears to be!
I'll spread the word, for all to see,
For everyone else is deluded, like me,
But now I see the truth of the matter,
Earth is Flat, and it's getting Flatter.

Post your Flat Earth poetry in here.

How the fuck do I fix a "This Device cannot start (Code 10)" error?

I've been trying for ages now, and searches online have proved futile.

The Lounge / Dog Nest...
« on: February 03, 2008, 12:16:32 AM »
I woke up this morning to find my dog had been hard at work all night, tearing up an old magazine that I'd left lying by the bed, and made a nest underneath it.

Does this mean she is pregnant?

I'm not overly versed on dog behaviour, but this is so out of character that I have to wonder.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / The Great Global Warming Debate.
« on: January 22, 2008, 10:19:36 PM »
With the advent of yet another load of ridiculous media hype about "Global Warming," this time about ice in Antarctica, I thought I'd get a feel for peoples opinion on the matter.

The truth, of course, is that there is more ice in Antarctica than there ever has been. Yet, many newspapers and tv networks are giving the impression that ice is falling into the sea faster than piss from a drunk man.

Here's my proof (and, like a good scientist, the source):

Since satellite imagery only began in 1979, that's as far back as our technology can realistically analyse the trends in ice growth/reduction for an entire continent.

I was going to post some quotes from relevant articles relating to this "crisis" but I'm sure all the warming fanatics will do that anyway.

So. Let the Great Global Warming Debate begin.

edit:fixed, enjoy

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Roots of Religion: Fiction or Truth?
« on: January 22, 2008, 08:22:54 PM »
OK, so I've been thinking about some stuff. I probably won't articulate it as well as I'd like to, but anyways (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong):

We have the New Testament of the Bible, which a major religion is based on. It's texts are close to 2000 years old. We also have the K'Oran (spelling?) which is even younger.

My question/speculation/point of this whole rambling is:

The current bestselling books of our time are the Harry Potter books. In 1000 years, will they be regarded by some sects as sacred texts?

The reason this line of questioning comes in is from something I read in "The God Delusion" where Richard Dawkins was commenting on "The Roots of Religion." His studies mainly centred on Western men bringing in supplies to very primitive tribes by boat/air/whatever, and when observed, the tribes started a cult that centred around worshipping the unknown technology and food. There is even a cult that has a prophet that has been prophesised to return on a vessel bearing goods and bringing untold fortune. I regret that my copy of the book was stolen while abroad, so I can't look it up to make any specific references.

My summary: The roots of religion can possibly be traced to misinterpretation of events by ill-informed people, which is then passed down to children who have no choice but to believe what their parents tell them (a side-effect of the evolution of language, IMHO.)

Any further discussion/theory on the roots of religion would be appreciated, as it is not a topic that I've seen discussed here (at least in the 5 months that I've been reading/posting here.)

Thanks,
Z

Flat Earth Q&A / The downfall of wi-fi. (AKA - The Epic Return of Lord Z)
« on: January 22, 2008, 07:24:24 PM »
My goddamn wireless mouse is broken. I just got the Orange box today, and I can't play it. It takes me about 25 tab presses to click a damn link, and I can't even play online poker because it's flash based.

Oh, and I'm back, by the way.

Anyone miss me? :-*

But,

There's a blizzard going on outside today, and I have this strong desire to go roll around in it, throw it, and build stuff from it.

It's finally snowing in Scotland!!!

Flat Earth Q&A / Who is Tom Bishop???
« on: December 29, 2007, 07:37:36 AM »
I've been wondering about this ever since I got here, and finally decided it should be worth a legitimate discussion. Who is Tom Bishop?

It's my theory that Tom Bishop is not a single user at all, and is a multiple user account operated by some of the older members of the site. Which members? I don't know for sure.

Although on some days, Tom Bishop does appear to resemble a single user.

I can't make up my mind.

I used to play it a long time ago, but gave up. Anyways, I was thinking we should start a Flat Earth Society Region.

I decided to quit smoking yesterday (not green, just cigarettes.)

So, I need all of your moral support as I try to get over this horrible addiction.

They say nicotine is more addictive than heroin.*

That's all, love Z.

P.S - Respond, A-holes!

*Disclaimer: I have absolutely no proof whatsoever to support this outrageous claim*

Flat Earth Q&A / Hey Everyone - Guess What? (2)
« on: November 02, 2007, 08:06:09 AM »
I've just reached my 1000th post and would like to make a rare thread to honour it. I've only been here a short time, but have thoroughly enjoyed wasting many hours here.
Thanks must go to these people:

TheEngineer: for not banning me.
GeneralGayer: for replying to my 1-line inane posts.
The Number Game thread: for being there.
Raist: for Dongs
Potential/Jack./whatever he calls himself now: for amusing me with his arguments with Divito the Facist & TheEngineer.
Divito the Facist: for repeatedly trying to educate the uneducated.
Tom Bishop: for many, many reasons, not least of all the quote under my posts, his flawed mathematics, and his elaborate trolling/firm belief in a flat earth (still not completely sure which one it is yet.)

And to Darth Bishop/Leprechaun Guy, Chris Spagetti (but only if he features me in his book), theonlydann, Trekky, Muffz, Space Cowgirl, and anyone I've missed that's acknowledged my presence here on the boards.

Here's to the next thousand!
Peace,
Z.

edit: I also forgot - many thanks to tomcooper84 for his laws of light, and providing me with a good hour of laughter.

Flat Earth Q&A / Usernames?

What's going on with the usernames. Some user has his username as multiple names, with their avatars, is this an error, or a script?

The Lounge / Finally
« on: October 22, 2007, 03:11:11 PM »
I just downloaded a copy of Sim City 4, and after 4 hours of trying to find an free ISO program, and a compatible tool to mount it, finding a NOCD crack, patching the game, repatching it, re-installing it, I'm finally ready to play.

A handy tip for other people - sometimes it's easier to just spend 20 quid and buy the damn thing.

The Lounge / Trolling is a valid religion....
« on: October 17, 2007, 07:41:58 PM »
Because Trolling these days is becoming more and more common on every message board, I have a theory that some people constantly look for forums to troll. I therefore hypothesise that these trolls have cause to start their own religion, Trollism(sp? or any better suggestions?)
