Flat Earth Debate / Re: How do satellites fly over flat land?
« on: August 02, 2018, 04:25:41 AM »
How does the model of flat ground explain that we are watching satellite TV, and the most important is that we use the Internet through satellites?
Satellites are traveling in straight lines.

Because that fits in with the laws of physics, doesn't it.
Just discard force vectors when they get in the way, why don't you.

I would like to recommend that DN be permaband, 8)
You heard it here Neil, you are now frontman on the first FE band 'Perma.' Please choose your drummer, lead guitarist and bassist ASAP.

I'd quite like to be the bass player, since I can.

Well, the post he just made here seems alright. What are you playing at?

He's having a pop at "trolls and shills" (not that shills even exist here). Hoppy can't make posts that aren't in some way complaining about someone else, usually with swearing. I'm challenging him to prove otherwise.

The ratio of noobs to actual flat earthers is around 500:1 so it makes any section for them worthless.
You are worthless.

No further questions. Your witness.  ::)

I am wondering why Hamzilla thinks that Prison is a game.  Is that your way of coping?  Real humans who have actually been to prison would probably slap you across the face, tell you to man the fuck up, and then have their way with you.

Also, this one here ^ doesn't do any proper moderation. His job is goading people into making a misstep so he can exercise his power, which he is drunk on.

The sinking effect was proven rather conclusively in Earth Not a Globe. Plenty of other authors have reproduced the restoration effect. If you cannot contradict his work, then there is little more to address with you.

The sinking effect was NOT proven in ENAG. It was written about in there, with erroneous geometry to back it up. Writing something down in a book does not mean it's true.
NO other authors have reproduced the restoration effect with any more evidence than simple say-so, and all of those are confined to the 19th century.

They're all jealous of this forum, so they pretend that they can't tell it's a joke post.

But it's pretty easy... all FE posts here are joke posts.

8
One of the arguments that is allways brought up by globelievers is the (partially) disappering of ships behind the horizon. They take that as evidence for the curvature of the earth but I think I found an alternative explanation: waves.
I came up with a statistical model for calculating the height which is blocked by random fluctiations on the sea which we see as waves. When I find the time in the next week I will upload the math I used and a python-script with which you could calculate some numbers and check if this model describes reality better than the globe-model does.

But I can allready show you the result:

What's f? What's η?
Define all your symbols, not just some of them. Mind you, still better than John Davis, who never defines any of them.

I'm up for participating in this. Make sure your photos contain accurate EXIF data so Jora can't sneer that they're faked.

The trolls and shills always jump in to throw off the noobs and piss them off or ridicule them.

Hey sheepy, how about you quote me one single post of yours that isn't trying to ridicule someone or otherwise be offensive. Just one. Take your time, I'm here indefinitely.

Flat Earth Debate / Illogical inference
« on: June 15, 2018, 12:55:46 PM »
Here is some idiocy from the Q&A thread:
I tend toward the concept of a disc-shaped earth based on historic/mythic records and how well the shape loans itself to the rest of my model. The known extant is clearly a circle. It's certainly possible it exists as an infinite plane. I do not find other shapes as likely, but as I previously noted, it is impossible to know.

(a) Mythic or historical records are meaningless. The "ancients" didn't somehow possess geographical knowledge that now eludes us.
(b) The shape of the known area is utterly irrelevant to the shape of the actual area.

I think you meant, "inverted cone shaped."

Explain your basis for choosing this shape over any other.

What shape would you prefer?  A circle?  lol

Your inability to answer the question is glaringly obvious.

Your inability to make an interesting post has been know for many years.

Your putdown, regardless of its feeble nature, is too late. An impartial observer reading this thread would see the notable feature as you boldly stating that the earth is an inverted cone, being asked to explain what evidence there is for that, and refusing to do so. They would conclude that you're talking out of an orifice other than your mouth. By the time you have thought up your sad little insult, you have already damaged your own credibility - and what's really pathetic is that you aren't even aware how your posts look to other people. You're actually helping the RE side a great deal with your cretinous behaviour.

Flat Earth General / Re: why do flat earthers ignore this
« on: June 15, 2018, 12:44:53 PM »
Inertia has meaning only in relation to something else. It arises from the "else".

Inertia cannot be relative to an observer, it has to be relative to an applied force.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Noctilucent clouds
« on: June 15, 2018, 12:42:42 PM »
The sun appears to be "below" the horizon due to perspective. That's why i used "visible horizon" and not "physical horizon".

Your use of the phrase "due to perspective" in this case is a lie, because all known rules of perspective would make what you describe an impossibility.
I suggest you're using it to mean basically the same thing as "a wizard did it".

The echidna also lays eggs.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Noctilucent clouds
« on: June 02, 2018, 01:25:45 PM »
The same way you think it does. The sun is below the visible horizon on the ground, but not from the cloud thousands of feet above.

How can the sun EVER be below the visible horizon when it remains physically above the observer (with "above" in this case meaning at a higher altitude in the direction perpendicular to the average surface level of where the observer is)? Answer the OP's question fully, rather than skipping critical details.

So then working within the principle of Machian observation, the motion of the heavens has inertial effects on the observer.

Please clarify this obtuse sentence.

A common depiction of the Earth is of a disk with relatively small thickness-to-diameter ratio.

Questions related to the other side of the disk or the thickness of the disk are frequently answered with the equivalent of "we don't know; no one has ever been there; it hasn't been measured."

What evidence exists, then, that the Earth is a disk?

Without any evidence that the Earth is a disk, is it not equally likely that the Earth is:

- A cylinder, one circular surface of which is the known Earth, the remainder of the cylinder of arbitrary length (including infinite).
- A frustum of a right circular cone, the smaller circular surface of which is the known Earth, the cone angle arbitrary and the height arbitrary (including infinite).
- An infinite volume below an infinite plane, a portion of which is the known Earth.

What evidence exists to prefer any one of these descriptions over the other three?

Why are you assuming a circular cross section at all? There's no evidence for it over any other shape.

Yeah, because the whole of the rest of Britain speaks with the same accent as one centred on London. Especially the Welsh.

Even those mid-west US idiots can pronounce an "r".  In fact, they often add "r"s where they don't even belong, such as "warsh" and "torss".  But, at least they are making an amazing attempt at pronouncing the letter, unlike the stupid Brits.

We didn't elect Donald Trump. You did.
I don't think there's much comeback for you from that.  8)

The Lounge / Re: Why Do the Brits Wear Such Ridiculous Hats?

Another thing that makes brits look dumb is their inability to pronounce the letter "r".  They pronounce words like Tar as "Taa".  Everyone else in the world, with the exception of people from Boston, New York, and China, can pronounce some form of the letter r.  Even the French, who have a nasal "eeeee" and the Spanish, who say a rolled "rrrr" at least attempt to pronounce the letter.  The British act as if they are too posh to pronounce the letter.  They act like, "We invented the language, so we can decide which letters are pronounced and which are not."  What a bunch of nobs.

Firstly: we can pronounce Rs. You've clearly never been to Scotland or South West England.
Secondly: American's don't pronounce Rs in some places that Brits do, for example in the word "warrior", where you guys seem to think it should be pronounced "woyer". What did you do to the two Rs in the middle? The correct pronunciation is "wa-ree-ər".
Furthermore, you can't pronounce O's, which is why you can't say "mirror". You just say "mirr." You can't do the "e" in "squirrel", you say "squirl".
What a bunch of nobs.

One of the people in your list of people who do not have management powers actually does.

My criteria for who should be given powahs are -
1) they have to understand this forum is for FE.
2) they can't be hostile towards this forum's existence.
3) they can't be hostile towards flat earthers in general (they don't have to like every FEer).
4) they have to have a good grasp of English since this is an English speaking site.
5) they have to have a good record of posting in accordance with the rules - for example I'd never promote someone who has posted nsfw images, or has a tendency to post racist crap, or someone who shitposts all over the forum.
6) I need to be able to trust the person not to abuse their extra permissions.

What is your definition of "shit post"?

Anything by Papa Legba or Hoppy.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Horizon curve
« on: June 01, 2018, 06:05:25 AM »
It can be applied to any shaped Earth.  The fact that air scatters light means that you can only see a certain distance.  Saying that you should see this or that is just a dumb argument.

You do love to scream that you can't see things a certain distance away when the air visibility index is clear enough that you could if the horizon didn't get in the way, don't you?
Change the bloody record.

At ground level, the index is at its maximum.  Perhaps I should change the bloody record to ban instead of warn?

I think the pictures of Mount Rainier have more than adequately disproved your silly idea in this thread. I'm waiting for you to start crying Photoshop.
