Flat Earth Q&A / "FE'ISM" DOES NOT WORK
« on: November 02, 2006, 01:49:26 PM »
First of all, What I did didnt cause that much damage. Second, it brakes up what ever heated debate is going on. Which is good, so everyone can come back with a bit of a fresher mind and a little laugh. Third, with what crazy rude and condicending and childish things that were ever said, and they still havent been band, then this little post could not possibly get me banned. Plus, it was funny, if you had the sound up.

How would lighter than air airships fly with no gravity? In former thread, a discussuion  came up that there is no gravity but the earth is moving through space accelerating at 9.8 m/s/s.

Your right I suppose. But, I wonder how difficult it would be in addition to the FAQ, the administrators could make up catagories of the topics that are brought up again and again. You know, organize the threads into different catagories. It wouldnt have to go so far back as the very first thread, just maybe a few months, that way it wouldnt take forever. Then, if there were questions that are older than a few months, they may be brought up again and discussed, and the ones that are just a few months old can be referenced to the community and limit the amount of questions asked again and again. Who is in charge here? Perhaps, I should ask them. I think that would be a great idea. Organization. thats what my Daddy taught me. Well not really. I am really quite messy.

Flat Earth Q&A / Besides...
« on: October 24, 2006, 12:35:12 PM »
Besides, often enough when old debates or questions are brought up again, they turn into new debates. THen conversations and threads and forums become even more interesting. Because, you have newer people and new ideas to bring to the table. SO, old questions and debates should deffinatly be brought up again, and again.

If your question goes ignored, or is answered with something like "Read the FAQ" it's probably because the question has been asked so many times that FE's are just getting sick of seeing it, so when you think of a question it's usually a good idea to check in the Search Feature to see if there is already another thread going on the topic.
I have yet to see a new and original question asked on these forums go without being answered by at least one FE.

Well, your right, people need to read the FAQ. However, not every answer to every question is answered in there. On top of that, some of the answers posted in the FAQ are either incomplete or to short. Meaning, one could go in further to that particular topic answer. Secondly, I didnt realize this website had a search feature. Thanks for the tip.

But still, Im right about what I said about the FAQ. javascript:emoticon('')

The Flat Earth Society Forums' goal is to promote the free discussion of The Flat Earth Theory as well as the free discussion of and debate of any topic of interest to our members that do not contradict Forum Rules.
The views of any individual or organization (including that of the old Flat Earth Society run by Charles K Johnson) are not nessecarily shared in whole or in part by The Flat Earth Society Forums. The only person qualified to give the official position of the Forums (if required) is Daniel.
Also please remember that views of the Forum are not necessarily shared by the Forum Staff who come from both sides of The Flat/Sphere Debate and whose sole unifying purpose is to promote a smooth running forum so as to encourage the victory of truth throught free disscussion and argument.

The above is the disclaimer for the FLat Earth Society forum. I believe this might have already posted by earlier in this forum.

I personally came to this forum to learn more about the FE theory. Not to attack, but to establish my own thoughts and final conclusions of the truth. I feel I have been welcomed into this community and have been treated kindly.  My goal is not to attack anyone for their beliefs but to have a better understanding of our world.

However with that being said, it is frustrating when one asks a question, and the responder ignores or gives a fullish answer, it does get frusterating. I have read many questions and answers in all the different forums this website has to offer. Also, in the disclaimer above, it does say " to promote the free discussion of The Flat Earth Theory as well as the free discussion of and debate of any topic of interest to our members that do not contradict Forum Rules." THis means providing answers and others attempts at proof for what ever they believe. Otherwise, what is this website for? WHat is the purpose if not to answer questions, or even to have a logical debait. If one doesnt have answers to questions, than thats fine but dont respond by dodging the question, or responding in a unhelpful manner. Just say you dont know.

Now, I dont think it is right or fair to resort to rudness or name calling or any other middle school way. I wouldnt answer anything to that response either.

If the people of this website cant accept RE questions, then a seperate website needs to be created to have a "FLAT EARTH BELIEVERS website ONLY" website, and not let people on who dont share the same beliefs as them.

Flat Earth Q&A / all Im saying is
« on: October 20, 2006, 10:16:48 PM »
that with other eyewitness accounts, it couldnt be my imagination or some kind of optic effect. Actually, not only myself, but others also witnessed that if you stan on the beach and have a good view of the ocean or on a cruise ship which is the ideal spot, you can also see the curviture of the earth. I didnt notice this until my dad pointed it out when we were on vacation.

You see, I cant argue theories or anything too scientifically deep, because to be honest, I never studied it, and I never payed attention in school. So, I can only inject into these forums, what I personnaly saw or expierienced myself. Since hearing of the FLat Earth Society, I started to think more deeply on the subject. My arguments are niether for or against Flat Earthism or Round Earth Proof. And true, I have always believed and never questioned that the earth was round until recently. My search is for proof. Actual un-argumentative proof. So my questions are to learn and find and listen to evidence prooving if infact we have a  flat earth or round earth. I guess ultimatly, it really wouldnt change my life that drastically to find out either or. But, it would be one hell of a discover if we had a flat earth.

Flat Earth Q&A / theory definition
« on: October 20, 2006, 09:51:36 PM »
I know I am trying to have this conversation go beyond definitions, but I found out the scientific definition for theory. Again, this may or may not go with the flat earth theory.

Theory
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
The word theory has a number of distinct meanings in different fields of knowledge, depending on their methodologies and the context of discussion.

In common usage, people often use the word theory to signify a conjecture, an opinion, or a speculation. In this usage, a theory is not necessarily based on facts, in other words, it is not required to be consistent with true descriptions of reality. True descriptions of reality are more reflectively understood as statements that would be true independently of what people think about them.

In science, a theory is a proposed description, explanation, or model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation. It follows from this that for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not necessarily stand in opposition. For example, it is a fact that an apple dropped on earth has been observed to fall towards the center of the planet, and the theory which explains why the apple behaves so is the current theory of gravitation.

Flat Earth Q&A / From personal experience...
« on: October 20, 2006, 07:54:57 PM »
Sorry for intruding but, getting back to how planes fly over a flat or round earth. It has been my recent expierience that when you look out the window of the air plane shortly after taking off and landing, you can see the curviture of the earth. How would the the flat earth idea work for that.

This is a serious question, not an attack.

Flat Earth Q&A / Definition to Theory
« on: October 20, 2006, 12:04:53 PM »
the·o·ry (th?'?-r?, thîr'?)
n., pl. -ries.

A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.
The branch of a science or art consisting of its explanatory statements, accepted principles, and methods of analysis, as opposed to practice: a fine musician who had never studied theory.

A set of theorems that constitute a systematic view of a branch of mathematics.

Abstract reasoning; speculation: a decision based on experience rather than theory.

A belief or principle that guides action or assists comprehension or judgment: staked out the house on the theory that criminals usually return to the scene of the crime.

An assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture.

ABove is the definition to theory. Sorry to intrude, but it seems that there is a question of what theory means. Just trying to help.

Flat Earth Q&A / Im still having trouble with the website, but...
« on: October 20, 2006, 10:47:38 AM »
I apprecitate you copying the infor from the website for me. However, I find that Coz 1 may be flawed. Let me tell you why.

If the sun is held up by the rising heat from under it, and cold temperature pushing down on it, its rotation would be far more erratic. Also, if all the heat that is needed radiates from the earth to keep the sun held up, with heat radiating through and around it, then why are the deep oceans so cold. My parents are hard core scuba divers, and they have to wear heavy suits when going deep under water due to the cold temperatures. Also since there is no obsruction between the heat source coming from below the earth, and the surface of the water, then the oceans on all of the world would be as warm as each other. Im thinking that there is another flaw with the sun not being heated. For the sun shining as bright as it does, the sun has to contain some kind of energy. Light energy creates heat. If you touch any light bulb or even florescent light there is some kind of heat coming from it.

Coz 2, Im not really sure what exploding sound this website is referring to. I am also confused what it is saying.

Coz 4, If there is a meteor cloud like that existing in space, would this meteor cloud be moving? Or stationary. Or if it is moving, then the stars that we see would disappear and reappear. And, wether if it is stationary or not, if something disrupts this meteor cloud, we are in a hell of amount of trouble with meteor showers. Instead of a cute little falling star here and there, its gonna be Armegedon and Deep Impact but worse. Plus, we would see this cloud from earth. Since the pictures from satalites and the shuttle are in question, our telescopes can not be. My dad has a little telescope that I used to go out late at night with him and we would look at the stars. Now we can see things in space. We can see Mars and with a stronger telescope, people can actually see Saturn and Jupitor. And, with those really strong telescope you can even see further. Im a big nerd, and I find space facinating. I even order catalogs to learn more. I never heard of a meteor cloud existing out there. Except, unless, one is talking about the Kuiper Belt. The Kuiper Belt is a vast reservoir of icy bodies in the region of the solar system beyond the orbit of the planet Neptune, with diameters estimated in the 100-1200-kilometer (60-750-mile) range. Also known as Edgeworth-Kuiper belt. As for these celestial beings. THis gets into a theology discussion. Me personally I am a christian. Everyone has their own personal beliefs and I dont believe there are celestial beings made of light existing out there. Though it would be interesting if they did. Just from an explorers point of view.

Coz 5, As for the shipping and traveleing aspect... Bascially, most of the land mass is above the equator. Below the equator are few developed nations. So shipping would be more common to and easier and cheaper to places above the equator than below. THere are other factors involved to support more commercial and personal travel above the equator. I think the other thing though when considering the FLat Earth map is that it is twice the distance to get to anartic circle than to the equator.

I am not arguing for or against the flat earth theory. I am just trying to gather all evidence needed to come up with my concusion. So far though, with the evidense given, there really os much proof for the Flat Earth theory. That dosent mean that I am debunking the theory.

I really appreciate your input though. Thank you for responding.

Are you talking from an orbit point of view or down on the sureface? Cause I think episodes of TNG looked better than that.

I was just thinking, is earth alone a flat or are all planets flat. Or are the planets just another part of the conspiracy theory?
