Are you etymologically related to the shittiest GNU/Linux distribution in existence?

Probably.

Holy shit, you're back?!

Why on earth would I come back?

Why the fuck did I ever post this? 4-years-ago me was an idiot. Every possible angle you could view this topic post from is stupid, and every proceeding post I made in this thread is sycophantic and whorish.

I believe in a flat earth, but my beliefs are backed up by facts that I am aware of.

One can believe in a monster under their bed, or big bang, or flat earth, or anything else true or false.

It's not a fact if it's still a theory, and has not been proved practically. You can theorize all you want, but in the end you need back that up with results(Which I have yet to see from any FE believer)

You may believe there's a monster under your bed, and say there is because you have a theory that says so, but you'll still need to test it. Sure you may find eyes below the bed, but further testing could prove that it was in fact a photo of the girl you once stalked.

But any results can only be obtained in the context of an existing theory. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy_of_science#Theory-dependence_of_observations

And, by the way, in everyday conversation "theory" means something like "hunch". In science, the equivalent word is "hypothesis". By the same token, in science, the word "theory" means "a model describing a phenomenon" -- it's totally neutral to whether the theory reflects reality or not. The theory of gravitation is pretty uncontroversial, while the gestural theory of the origins language is not well-established. That said, the words "theory" and "hypothesis" (as they apply to scientific concepts) are not always used perfectly consistently because there's no clear dividing line between a hypothesis, which is simply a not-yet-confirmed idea, and a theory, which is a model describing a phenomenon. It's possible for something to be a hypothesis and a theory, I suppose.

Boy, this takes me back. My first ever post on FES, I think. I would have just turned 14. Crazy.

If they can refute that logically, it will be using sophistry.

What I stupid thing I said. I think I've become significantly less of an idiot over the last two years. Yay for me.

Hire cheap college actors to break out into a full fledged musical in the middle of the store.

I have always wanted to do that. It would be supersaturated with win.

The Lounge / Tom Cruise Scientology video leaked
« on: January 18, 2008, 08:58:26 PM »
So this video somehow got out on YouTube and the Church of Scientology International has motivated YouTube into removing it vigorously. One website still hosting it, Gawker.com, is currently being sued by the Church. I did my part and uploaded a copy to Youtube -- it got 11 000 views before it was pulled down. But don't worry, I haven't given up.
