1969 NASA tried and they forgot to provide their heroes with a toilet aboard
If you check, they added a machine that was able to convert all waste manner into data which they then uploaded to some website or other. heiwaco something.

NASA is flying drones on Mars and soon China will land on Mars so it would appear flying to Mars is simple.
???  Why would you think that?  Just because it's possible doesn't mean that it's simple.
You mean you haven't been to Mars? You should go! Lots to do there.

Sorry, we didn't pay attention to him for a week and he felt the need to post again.

What if all this one-way space travel led to them building a moonbase with a killer games room? Plenty to do in space then.

Herding cats sounds fun honestly. All you need is a box of treats that you shake and they will all sprint towards you. if that fails, catnip. Have you considered getting your underlings high?

It's as simple as this: convince me.

No, thanks.
Can't say fairer than that.

Heiwa couldn't afford a payout even if it was 1 million Venezuelan Bolívars.
I know, I'm not going to collect, I'm just going to be content than I've won.

I won Heiwa's challenge too but I'm not going to tell anyone how.
You sound like a loser.

If you think that you will magically become generous because you have 170B, you are only fulling yourself.
I can guarantee you I'd be much less concerned with turning a profit. Just because you'd hoard doesn't mean everyone else would. If I end up with $170 billion, I'm putting 10 mil in a savings account to live off of comfortably and spending the rest alternately on lawsuits against assholes that get away with everything, and on an elaborate scheme to convince New York it had been invaded by squids.

While removing carbon from the air is great, I think we should be looking at eliminating or heavily reducing our reliance on emitting CO2 in the first place.
Isn't that what he's already doing at Tesla with the electric cars and solar roofs?
Electric cars while disparaging public transit and any electric vehicle that isn't a car (and thus would be more accessible to most people), while also encouraging crypto and mass-lithium mining.

It's just spin. He has a handful of things that, as a secondary effect, may have potential for environmental wellbeing, but he's not doing anything to make it practical for everyone nor does the rest of his behaviour line up with that idea. He's stuck in that teenage mindset of doing things because they seem cool, he just has the billions necessary to fund his childishness.

Or he's doing things because he knows that stupid people will spend lots of money to get them because they fit a popular fad, ideology, etc..  It's a rather lucrative business model.

Example:  I you have a house that at the time of purchase was valued at 500k, are you going to sell it for 350k because it would be better for others, or are you going to sell at teh market value of 600k.

Are you asking me as I am now, or a theoretical me with a net worth of $170 billion?

Treating 'scientific theory' as lesser is one of the reasons pseudoscience like this gets propagated at all. Insisting that something has to be above scientific theory is the mentality that gets us anti-vaxxers, creationists, climate change deniers and, yes, flat earthers. How often have you heard '___ is just a theory!'

You aren't defending science by leaving it at the door.
'Scientific theory' is the best thing science can say about any concept. Inventing a concept above that in order to elevate something to win internet points is unscientific trash. Defending the notion that something being a scientific theory is not good enough is downright dangerous.

So your existence is scientific theory?
It's a claim that can be tested and (in my humble opinion) does seem to pass the test.

I'd say so. What else would you call it?

Yeah, saying you're someone with a net worth of $400 million has never worked for anyone...  :D
Opening a date by announcing your net worth is not the killer move you think it is.

Musk is selling prototypes and convincing people they're finished products.
Or, maybe it's the customers that are convincing themselves that they're buying finished products.
If that many customers believe the same lie, maybe there's a problem with the one doing the advertising and selling, hm?

28
Musk is selling prototypes and convincing people they're finished products. We're probably a good few years or decades from what he's proposing actually being feasible for public consumption. He's just also able to sell people on the allure of his sci-fi technology, even when the reality is so pathetically substandard that it wouldn't be remotely acceptable if he wasn't able to veil it behind the promise of something that might, one day, actually be decent.

There's no point defending his shtick. Elon isn't gonna fuck you.

What really lost me with Star Trek Picard was when this Borg Ship had a room that could transport anyone half way across the galaxy. I get they wanted to 'easter egg' a Star Trek Voyager episode but a) That's not how their technology could have possibly worked at all and b) Would this not be an 'instant win device' for the Borg? Why reserve it for a Borg Queen needing to escape if things got tough when you could just send legions of Borg drones or the Borg assimilation virus to any world instantaneously? So dumb.....
That's always been the thing about the show. They're willing to sacrifice a lot if it just means moving the pieces into place for whatever story it is they want to tell. Voq/Tyler served no actual purpose in Discovery (seriously, what were the meaningful ramifications of that twist?). Saru gets turned from the interesting idea of a sentient prey species to generic Dude With Anger Issues. There's a certain something I've heard of a plot point from season 3 (two if you count Georgiou). Lorca does absolutely nothing to indicate he's a worse person than Actually Genocidal Torturer Empress but we're meant to be invested in the squabble between the monster and the guy that's either a well-intentioned extremist or just another asshole. And over on Picard, the Borg Cube could be cut and the season wouldn't be affected. Seven becomes Queen, and it has no ramifications. Every potential reclaimed Borg dies for no reason, including Hugh. The supposed follow-up to TNG begins with the Federation committing genocide on what TNG established as a sentient species because of the actions of a few individuals (and don't give me that 'Because the Romulans manipulated them!' because it takes more than a few infiltrators to not just execute that, but to alter everyone's morality to prevent even a Maquis style opposition).

They have a few moments they want to get to, and everything else on the way is secondary and varies from rushed to completely out-of-place. Whether or not you can look past that comes down to personal taste, if those moments work well enough for someone then that's great, but to me too much of it feels like the writers just don't care, and if they don't then why should we?
