If 2 planes took off from London and both were headed in opposite directions, both bound for Sydney in Australia, surely (if the world was flat) only 1 plane would make it and the other would just fly into abyss??

Thoughts?

Absolutely possible on the FE.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

How have you burst a bubble?  You've just made an assertion without backing it up.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: Einstein's Thought Experiments
« on: June 18, 2014, 09:42:28 AM »
The most damning thought experiment that leads directly to the revelation that the Earth is Flat is the equivalence principle. http://theflatearthsociety.net/relativity.html

This is to mention nothing of his Zionist leanings.

His zionist leanings?  Would you care to elaborate on that?

Flat Earth Q&A / Standards
« on: June 18, 2014, 09:38:45 AM »
I would like to try and categorise the diferent FE worldviews there are out there.  I appreciate that there is a natural disagreement on the finer points, but I would be interested to see where the points of divergence are.

I think that all FEr's would agree that the earth is flat.

It seems to me that the next points would be gravity (universal acceleration), bendy light, the Ice Dome, the Ice Wall.

Where do the differences come in to play?

My question is this:  what happens when the inflated bouncy castle hits the ice dome?  Will it be like a helium balloon stuck to a ceiling?  What if the IBC (Inflated Bouncy Castle) carries a heater with it to melt through the ice dome?  Can we stick a GoPro camera on the IBC?  Is the ice dome close enough to allow us to wave at the brave explorers on the IBC? If the dome of the ice dome is hemispheric, does that constitute evidence that hemispheres can occur naturally?  What natural processes would cause a hemisphere to grow around a planar planet?  And what is the ice anyway?  Is it water ice or something else.

Flat Earth General / Re: Can we put this satellite nonsense to bed?
« on: June 18, 2014, 09:22:32 AM »
Yeah, stick me down for a million quid that satellites are unnecessary.

A thing being unnecessary has no bearing on whether it exists. Case in point:

Is it necessary? Hell no. Does it exist? Oh god yes.

My god! Can you get those things of beauty in the UK?  We are so far behind - as far as I know there is only one Taco Bell, never mind wherever you have to go to get a Cheetos Burrito.

It's just that I have not seen him (or her) and no amount of logical deduction or induction results in a universe with Scepti in it.

I think Scepti is a covert black ops psych warfare programme run by the US military industrial complex to see how far they can push the general public - how much can you get them to swallow.

Would Scepti pass a Turing test?

Jroa, I didn't understand what you meant by diffraction.  Can you please explain precisely what you mean by diffraction, and is it the same as the phenomena explained as diffractino by Wikipedia?

The Earth is in suspended animation ina true vacuum. A living cell full of bacteria ranging in size, of good and bad in a fight for survival.
There could be an infinite amount of cells just like us in the same or similar states.

Can I ask what you mean by suspended animation?  As I understand it, it means the temporary cessation of processes, but clearly that cannot be right on a local level (for example, you replied to my post and I replied to yours).  So if we are in suspended animation, what is going on while we are suspended?  In other words, what is out there while we a stationary?
The actual Earth is in suspended animation. Us inside of it can do what we want within the confines of it and with what it allows us to do with it's elements.

Yes, I understand that.  I am asking what we are suspended in relation to?  If we are suspended something else has to be moving, or we would not know that we are suspended.  So what is out there that is moving?

Apparently this film is a documentary about how the old cosmology is wrong, and the earth is the centre of the universe after all.

Is this something that affects a flat earth view, or does FET have nothing to say about the location of the earth in space?

If (as some people will say) there is no "space", what is the earth in?
What documentary are you taking about. Let us see it.

I have only seen a trailer and a couple of interviews about it.  I haven't seen the whole thing and don't know if the full movie is available yet.

It honestly doesn't come up very often.

It probably won't - it's pretty rare for people to be honest with each other.

Flat Earth General / Re: New theory
« on: June 29, 2013, 03:16:23 AM »
Puttah the so called Neverland has more evidence then many classroom theories. I'm not preaching any religion to you nor am I implying that God will judge you. But even when you jokingly saying "take me with you" you are either mocking me or trying to get some response from me. Mocking me won't do you any good because I honestly don't give a shit, so your intention must be to trap me or make me sound fanatic or religious, this is not gonna happen man and your plan failed. I will not hold people by their hands and lead them to the light. My fairy tale land is my personal space, you can find yours, I'm not saying you must do it. As a matter of fact I somewhat envy you that you are so ignorant of alternate dimensions and realities, it makes your life easier. My life is harder cause I'm forced to struggle with the world by knowing that its not my home. So by no means I try to convert you. There is really nothing to convert to.

Now I don't have all the answers either even for myself. I contemplate different theories, some of them are about Antarctica, some are about flat earth, round earth, space, time so forth. Honestly I don't have a coherent theory yet, which drives me nuts cause I want answers for many things but I guess I just have to wait. I'm very thankful to this website however because FET opened my eyes to a possible infinite earth which I have always knew existed deep in my thoughts.

I think that the quotes in bold say it all, and I think that we should applaud New Earth for his (I assume he is a he) honesty.  This does not imply approval - I still don't like a number of things about his ethics, but at least he is honest as to his thought process, such as it is.

I never said that it was gonna happen on Dec 21 2012. I always thought that 2012 was most likely fake, however I gave room for a slight chance that something just might happen. So just because nothing occurred in 2012, does not mean nothing ever will. I also do not wish that people perish, my hope is that people wake up. However if you are asleep, its not my job to wake you up, its your free will to stay in lower realities and never advance. You chose this for yourself, not me. I don't predict any dates but yes my belief stays strong. My belief is not some religious hocus pocus, it is based on modern physics and on theories of many renown scientists. You simply choose to ignore certain science and only embrace Newtonian reality, you are doing yourself a big disfavor.

Just so that I am clear on this, are you saying that your belief in the primitivism of modern science relies on modern science?  Is that not slightly odd logic?

The tax payers are the priority, full stop.
Not in the way you think though.

Don't want to troll or anything... but a period means a full stop. So you're kind of just saying full stop twice at the end there. Which doesn't make much sense.
I take it you are American.

Scepti, I just wanted to congratulate you on the dry brilliance of that post.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Re: Lizard People Conspiracy
« on: May 22, 2013, 05:47:57 AM »
If conspiracy theories can be proven as fact in whatever avenue, then it can cast doubt on many things, including the round earth garbage, which then gives rise to the question of, "well what shape is the earth."

Answer:
It's roundish.

Fixed that for you.

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Re: Lizard People Conspiracy
« on: May 22, 2013, 05:44:19 AM »
John, I have not seen too many lizard threads on here although a couple. How can there not be a NASA conspiracy with all of our FE evidence pointing to a flat earth. NASA knows that they make fake videos and lie about going to the moon. The conspiracy out of necessity must be worldwide in scale because so many nations claim to have been to the ISS and in space. Everyone claims to use GPS based on satellite signals. If the earth is flat I don't see how a satellite keeps orbiting. The conspiracy must be bigger than most people can conceive of. While I doubt the lizard conspiracy, I have not been able to rule it out.

Ha!  Hoppy does not know what "evidence" means.

Does that include all the "experiments" that prove a flat earth?

Flat Earth Q&A / Just a question
« on: April 23, 2013, 10:42:08 AM »
Is Mr Rowbotham's Wikipedia entry accurate?

27
I believe that most flat Earth proponents would argue that the sky is exactly what it appears to be - that stars are not burning spheres of gas, billions of miles and light years away, but are indeed small emitters of light - as they appear to be. You are making the assumption that the Flat Earth Theory conforms to a Round Earth Theory universe, which it doesn't. Everything in the observable universe is much closer to home.

A lot of your confusions and queries are answered in the detailed FAQ section of the Flat Earth Wiki: (http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ#Geography_and_Physics)

For further reading, I suggest Earth Not a Globe: (http://www.sacred-texts.com/earth/za/), which details much of what many flat Earth proponents hold to be true.

Hmm.  Can I suggest any book written after, say, 1950?  In relation to geography, geophysics, astronomy, cosmology and so on and so forth.  Do we really have to rely on a book that was published in 1881 and was dead in the ground as soon as the ink hit the paper?

28
The Flat Earth society, from the observance of many threads over many months, is not simply a society aiming to prove the Earth is flat. Instead, it represents a rare environment; one that allows a member to think freely, questionably and radically. While many members, I am sure, do believe that the Earth is flat, I am just as certain that this society is much more to many others.

Stepping into this domain with the intent of disproving the Flat Earth Theory is ultimately futile. The theory is not merely constrained to the Earth's shape, but rather represents a state of mind. Why shouldn't the Earth be flat? Simply because you have been taught otherwise? Simply because it is accepted? No; the Flat Earth Society places a banner firmly in the ground, and rallies those who wish to think differently, to question, to consider, to speculate and to suggest a thrilling proposition - that the Earth is flat!

Many are here for many reasons; some evidently enjoy the back and forth of lively debate, regardless of the topic or whether they believe the position they are arguing. Others simply enjoy locking horns with those passionately attempting to prove or disprove the Flat Earth Theory. A select number simply enjoy annoying others with ridiculous sentiment.

Take from it what you will, contribute accordingly and leave, hopefully, enlightened or entertained.

That's great, but what you have done is deny those who really believe.  You have essentially said that this is a playgound for the intellectually curious - you have removed all meaning for those who really do believe the earth is flat.

The "movement" as Thork would refer to it, cannot thrive under the umbrella that you propose.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: The Creation of a Flat Earth
« on: April 23, 2013, 10:32:20 AM »
I'm pretty sure the Bible doesn't like women being stoned. The New Testament (Bible 2.0) has bits about Jesus saying let those without sin cast the first stone etc. The old testament is more of a prequel. Without it saying women should be stoned, there is no context for Jesus Christ Superstar to throw in a heroic plot twist by stopping people stoning a woman. Its there to make it kind of seem ok to stone women, until Jesus reminds you that its mean and then you realise he is right and that you should live the way Jesus tells you to. There's also a lengthy parable about the evils of shopping with Amazon.com but priests rarely touch this moral hot potato for fear of losing followers.

Yes, but can that not be interpreted as meaning that if you have no sin, then stone them?  Us True Christians TM do not sin, and therefore, we can cast all the stones we need to.

I'm no master theologian, so correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Christian faith say that everyone has sin? Hence the reason for confession, baptism, Jesus' death, etc?

I think it depends which sect you belong to.  The Catholics believe in Original Sin in a big way.  Some of the others don't.  Myself, I think that given the rules we're all sinners in one way or another, the question is: who is really in a position to judge?  And do you really want Him to?
