You posted that fourteen hours, three minutes and twenty-three seconds after Hallowe'en ended. Congratulations, Slowpoke.

Depends on where you are.  When I placed the OP it was still one hour till Halloween was over.

And what about Alan Rickman playing the role of the Metatron?

That was awesome, and the inspiration for a fan fiction I heard about from a friend: "Harry Potter and the Voice of G-d"

Nicely taken photographs there.  You took them all zoomed in as far as possible I am assuming.

The only thing that would make this experiment a little more complete would be if you included the zoomed-out shots as well, something to use as a control you know?

Also an increase in altitude would mean that the sun is further from the Earth when it rotates over the Souther Annulus.  If that's the case, then wouldn't that mean that Souther Hemisphere summers are cooler than Northern Hemisphere summers?  Last I checked, that wasn't the case.

But you have yet to reproduce any of the results from his experiments.  In fact, I haven't seen any photographs from any of the FEers that prove FET.  RE has presented proof time and again that you reject for one reason or another, so why doesn't FE come forward with some solid evidence and tell us why we shouldn't just reject it?

P.S.

And before you try the whole "Burden of proof is on you" argument:

No, it's not.  RE proof is readily available from text books, internet, and other sources.  FET makes the claim that the Earth is really flat, so the burden is on FE to produce solid evidence.

Tom, seeing as you claim to be an atheist, you'd demand proof that there truly is a God, right?  What I'm asking for is much simpler:  You've said you've seen people on a beach from thirty miles away.  I ask you produce a photograph of this.  With modern equipment that shouldn't be too difficult should it?

Anyone else here play City of Heroes/Villains?  The guys in that video kind of remind me of one of the enemy types only a lot less super-powerful.

The Earth is infact round. Spaceflight is possible and has been done. Your post just makes the Earth rounder than it already is.

You're wrong.

Tom, "You're wrong." does not constitute a proper rebuttal.  Please explain just how he is wrong.

I believe what the OP wishes to have explained is how the bits of mass that make up the Earth could have joined together to form the constantly accelerating plane that is the FET model.

Am I honestly the only one that no longer derives any joy from watching Eric blow up at what are obviously jokes at his expense?  There's only so many times a cycle can be perpetuated before it just gets old.

You mean the only one who's existence is provable to himself, I assume.  In which case, you can't prove to me that you truly exist.  I can easily prove to myself that I exist however.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Open Letter to "levee"

Out of plain curiosity, why not PM? Or, if you wished to  inform us of this place as well, just remove the references to levee, and PM him as well.

I did try to PM him.  Some moderator locked all of his threads, and either levee himself (or possibly a moderator) blocked all incoming private messages to levee.

Anyway, by paying this small tribute, I am incidentally bringing some well deserved attention to his threads.  I have been using this website since the fall of 2005, and he has posted by far the most interesting and useful information from a pro-Flat Earth perspective that I have come across on this website.

On a side note, it is mildly entertaining that the ENG still thinks we are one and the same.  I guess he has the freedom to believe what he wants - even if it's not reality.  If the ENGis interested (or more to the point - patient enough), he can scan posts by myself primarily under the three usernames 'Dionysios', '17 November', and 'Lord Byron' and compare them to levee's posts.  I think he will find that levee was a newcomer who suddenly posted tons of new information and knowledge that were not in any of my previous posts.  Such as the details of hos the space shuttle flights are rigged.  I confess I had any detailed knowledge at all about that stuff until he posted it.

The biggest difference is this:  levee and his research are more scientifically technical minded than I am and his posts show it.  By way of contrast, my own posts are more historically oriented.  Chaltier has stated that my posts contain more knowledge about pre-Rowbotham flat Earthism than anywhere on the internet.  On the modern technical stuff, levee has done far more research than I have.  While "username" has made a respectable contribution, as far as technical articles from a pro-Flat Earth viewpoint are concerned, levee is second to none.

Unfortunately, comparing posts isn't a guaranteed way to prove you aren't the same person.  Changing typing styles and style of information presented is easy, then if you have a second account you just log onto that and praise yourself.  This practice is generally frowned upon in internet forums (apologies for overstating the obvious).

The only way to prove you aren't the same person is to compare IP addresses, and even that might not be surefire if you just change computers between accounts.

I say go for it and we'll find out!  Bthimes set the groundwork for this experiment, now let's see what happens when someone takes it to the next level!

Wish I could try this myself, but I don't live near the sea.  Best of luck!

Unfortunately, despite the Captain's best efforts, FEers refused to accept his evidence due to the fact that he used a telephoto lens rather than an old-fashioned telescope.  Tom (somehow) manage to shout him down by saying that a telephoto lens doesn't work the same way/isn't as powerful as a telescope.

If you're going to do this experiment, I'd recommend making sure you pack along a telescope and an adapter of some kind so your camera can take pictures through it.  I'm pretty sure such adapters exist (I thought I saw a thread regarding that topic a while back), but I'm unsure of where one might purchase them.

EDIT:  I found the forum you were talking about, the one bthimes started where he took pictures of the sinking ship.  Here's a link.

I have heard that there are many first hand accounts where the viewer is able to "restore" the half sunken ship by viewing through a telescope.  But I have not tried this myself.

However, the phenomenon is fully explained: http://www.sacred-texts.com/earth/za/za32.htm

Isn't it funny that FE'ers will criticize RE'ers for their "dogmatic" belief in the RE, and yet will try to support the FE position as more reasonable by linking to a book hosted on a web site called "Sacred-Texts"?

I personally only really remember Tom criticizing us for "dogmatic beliefs."  In which case, yeah, the funniest aspect is he just throws out passages from Rowbowtham with none of his own proof and expects us to just jump on board his way of thinking with blind faith.

I'd say the most clinching proof that Tom Bishop is a troll or bot is that he just copy-pastes the same passages over and over again.  Either that or he really is crazy.  Wasn't it Ben Franklin who defined insanity as "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting to get different results"?

If this were a picture of the edge, then where is the supposed "endless ice plane" that exists past the ice wall around the edge?

And if it were a picture of the circle of the world illuminated by the sun's spotlight (as Tom would no doubt try to argue) then why are there no lights visible from the cities outside of the spotlight?

I'm curious as to what this experiment would prove.

29
Those are some nice pictures, too bad I can already predict Tom Bishop's response.  He'll either say:

1.  There is no curvature visible in those pictures.

Or.

2.  Those are just pictures of the area of the Earth visible under the spotlight of the sun.

Now that I beat him there maybe he'll just do us all a favor and keep his mouth shut.

Flat Earth Debate / Moon visible during the day
« on: May 08, 2008, 10:02:51 AM »
According to FET, the sun and moon both orbit overhead at an altitude of about 3000 miles.  Atmospheric refraction prevents us from being able to see the sun at night, but what accounts for the moon being visible during the day?  Why would the moon be visible when it's in a position where the sun isn't visible?
