I know some cool films:
Primer    about the accidental discovery of timetravel

Cube      (has been mentioned here)

Cube 0(zero) prequel to cube                     (don't watch hypercube(cube2), it's lame)

What the #$*! Do We (K)now!?        mix of fiction and reality(film and documentary about Buddhism, physics, biology...)
What the #$*! Do We (K)now!?  Down the rabbit hole     sequal to part 1

The box      a couple receives a box with a button on it, if they push it they get a million $ in cash, but someone they don't know will die that instant

The man from earth      what if a caveman still lived among us?    (has been mentioned here)

Moon     its like "2001 a space odyssey" but totally not.

And all Hitchcock his films and Kubricks' movies also...

I've found a documentary about ancient UFOs in the bible.
Pretty cool, but the 'theory' has almost as much holes in it like a religion.
here:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7727907925097415055&ei=d9ZfS9nrO4iQ-AayjKjQCw&q=ufos+in+the+bible&view=3&emb=1&dur=3#

and this one was also kind of near the topic:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8310423348544378743&ei=EthfS4r7BZHF-Aa475XYBQ&q=search+for+ancient+technology&view=3&emb=1&dur=3#
Be sure to get a 25k bag of salt before you view these, you'll need it to 'believe'...

@Anteater: you skipped a part, and not a unimportant one imho.
DNA stays the same and makes it possible that 'you' stay 'you' over time. This is a fact, and there is no need for a soul to do that job.
Yeah, I know DNA mutates and copies errors and so on...

So, in the end, what did we learn?

1)  God = Jezus
2)  Jezus = a martyr
3)  a martyr = someone who sacrificed him or her -self for a 'greater' cause/good
4)  sacrificing yourself = suicide
5)  suicide= declared illegal by the very same religion
6)  Christian believe is a religion based on total random acts of suicide by its only deity.

So this means that or the deity is crazy or its followers. Imho, probably both.

Very good, if only for Mila ;D

They also talk about ancient aliens that have been visiting us since the dawn of mankind, wich is bs ofcourse, but a very entertaining film.
And the cool thing is the film depends totally on your own imagination, they do not show the aliens, they try to, but the images get distorted and so...
pretty cool...

Philosophy, Religion & Society / Re: Adoption is Anti-Evolution
« on: January 02, 2010, 08:10:47 AM »
hi there,
Actually it IS survival of the fittest, and a very good example of  it...
Because the adopted one is the more superior(can i say this?) one...

Sexual selection has nothing to do with "giving birth", the couple selects each other by the only manner possible in nature, namely sexual selection(like all of us). Non-sexual selection(humans) does not occur in nature, except in some cultures where free choice is 'not done' and in IVF-labs...
And anti-evolution is an ill-defined term("anti" means the opposite of something)), it can not exist, because no matter how something evolves, it ALWAYS evolves, anti-evolution would be something like the curious case of Jezus(i guess), who has been 'designed' by a 'deity'. Which is total bs...

I've just seen "the fourth kind" a thrilller-horror-esque movie with Milla Jovovich(5th element/resident evil).
The story is about a psychologist that does a sleep-disorder study somewhere in Alaska, and she discovers that her patients all have had
similar strange experiences. They all have seen an owl, sitting outside the window, right before going to bed. And when she examines them with hypnosis, they all have black memories, their brain 'forgot' what happened when they "slept".

The movie looks and feels like a cross-breed between the X-files and the blairwitch project.
The makers of the film claim that the movie is based on real events that have occured in Noam; Alaska and we must choose what to believe at the end
And she warns us that some of the things you are about to see are extremely disturbing.

I am a sucker for this kind of films...

Has anyone seen it?

Sorry,
I do not like the smell of any relligion, but have any of you actually read this bible your all talking about?
If so, you should know that the concept hell or even your concept of Satan does not occur in it, right? The Satan is a kind of figure(like an angel or spirit-like being) God uses to test people in their faith, go and read the story of Job and the crucifiction and the first part of genesis, and so on...

Oh and another thing: benevolent, doesn't that mean that you are capable of doing everything? Like really everything, from creating a universe to, say making mistakes?

And that hell, like the place you all claim to know so good, originated in the middle-ages by French monks.

I don't want to sound/read(lol) angry but come on people...
Know the stuff your talking about... I only just googled this information from bible study-groups and other 'notable' sources.

First things first: Happy New year.
That being said: I live in Belgium(oh, i'm F*ck*d), wich means: we have bandwidth limits(yeah I know it is S-T-U-P-I-D) more stupid is the fact that I reached my limit for this month(my i-net month is from the 15th/month/year to the next 15th) so I won't be able to view this until the 15th.(or next sunday(my mom has i-net too) which I will). So I will wait to answer. :-[

So to answer the other one: imho there are about 5 big variations of string-theory, which are all 'correct', meaning: they vary widely but it has been discovered that they are 5 different outcomes of an other theory namely the (mem)brane-theory(M-theory).
String-theory comes from the mathematical effects of quantum-mechanics(the science of the very small) and the gravity-theory of Newton and later Einstein. I have to say that I am in no way an expert on string-theory, but they are the smallest stuff around, you have molecules then the atoms, wich look like mini-solarsystems(but AREN'T!), these have a neucleus(the 'sun' in the middle) wich is made out of quarks, then these are made out of even smaller stuff(which may or may not be detected in accelerators(like at Fermilab/CERN)), these are on their turn build by other things, and if you could break these undiscovered other things, you would eventually be able to detect these proposed strings, little wire-like objects(?) that have about 9(if i'm correct) variations of vibration('flavors'/'notes') which are able to manifest the stuff we can see, like molecules, stars, people, ants...

In physics-circles the string-theory is not widely accepted, because we can not build anything thaat will be able to detect them, ever(!), because they are too small. And physics being an empirical science, can not accept 'ideas' they deal in facts, abservations, which are experimentally reproducable and detectable. String-theory therefor should be classified as a philosophical question/idea.

On the other hand the string-theorists are strong-minded(very!), some of them are looking in outer space to find (in)-direct evidence of what they call super-strings(which are these tiny strings that still exist from the moment of the big-bang, but are now so stretched out to astronomical proportions that they should/would be detectable in outer space, and now the best bit: this will be attempted within a couple of years with a gravitational telescope. So then, maybe...

I seriously do not think they will ever be detected, because of the fact that they are too small.
Consider a fishpond and in there are fish, you want to know how much of the pond is water and how much of it is fish and other stuf, so first you take a net, to take the fish and the plants, and other massive 'clumps' of matter, then you must eventually take for example a bucket(of which the holes are smaller than water molecules) to get the smallest clumps(large amounts of water molecules) out. Nowadays, particle physicists are able to take very small clumps of matter, which must still have mass, and they collide them in big machines like the ones at Fermilab. These machines are themselves large clumps of matter, so to detect say a quark, your net(which are now in ccd-chip-form) must have even smaller holes, so to detect the smallest things around your holes of your net have to be even smaller than those things. Which in our universe is impossible(imho).

I will look at the lecture the first chance I get then...

whoops, my bad, indeed it isn't steady state. :-\
What is your source of this theory, because I normally don't talk about stuff I don't know very well.
To the best of my knowledge, the best theory that is able to explain our origin is the M-theory.
The one you know about is intriguing, because a flat universe implies a universe in Euclidean-space and that has physical boundaries(it has an edge/border), which means that the universe would be infinite in only one dimension(like a cylinder/M?bius strip).

Oh, this is a fun one!  ;D

Nope you can not worship ANYTHING other than God/Jahwe/Allah/theOne/...
However, because of freewill you CAN believe in the easter bunny, Santa Claus, the great spaghetti monster, hey, even a puddle of snot.

The horror begins when you believe AND worship those things.
An example of such things: praying to Jezus, Mohammed, a random saint.  Or swearing on bibles,Thora's, Qurans...  for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience!

12
hi there,
I think your "unknown" theory is called "the steady state"-theory. And it has been refuted since the 60's or something. The steady state theory claims that the universe has always been and always will be like it is observed now.
This theory has been replaced by the "big bang" theory (which is a misleading term imho).
Nowadays this origin-question can be answered by the M-theory(mostly known as the brane/membrane theory).
This states that the universe(like we observe it) is merely an insignificant fraction of what is really out there, namely parallel-universa(the Multiverse like David Deutsch likes to cal it).
It is a construct of 10 dimensions + 1 time dimension, each embedded in its lower dimension(e.g. 1 dimension is embedded in 2 dimensions, 2 in 3 and so on).
This theory predicts exotic stuff like quarks in nucleons of atoms, black-holes and such. Thanks to the M-theory we can build microchips, solar-panels, iphones, wireless networks and so on.
Also this 'fine tuning'stuff is refuted e.g. we see our universe like we observe it because we are in it and see it in this way, clearly stated: if you take for example 3 sugar lumps, than you will see three of them because there are 3 of them.

haha, logic at its worst.

Look it doesn't matter if you(anyone) believe it or not.
Bcos:
If there wasn't a god, there still would be good people doing good things, and
bad people doing bad stuff.
The thing is it takes a RELIGION to make GOOD people DO BAD things.

ponder on that...

Philosophy, Religion & Society / The BIG Question
« on: March 29, 2006, 10:45:11 AM »
I'm speaking dutch, so i can type errors.

**1st Commandment;: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

So this one is obvious: The word God translated in hebrew is something like Elohim, Jahve(jahwe), so if you believe in Allah, you probably pronounce His name in the native language the religion originated in. So any of the monotheistic(one God) religions worship the SAME God. If you speak in numbers and facts the name for our deïty is Science.

**2nd Commandment;: "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me. And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments."

This is a bit tricky, because we may(NOT can) not copy(or wathever you call it) anything that resembles God or any parts of His Creation. No images, no Saints, no Jezus, no Mohammed, no Church , no ajatolah, no rabii, no nothing...

**3rd Commandment; Verse 7: "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain."

This verse originally meant that one is not to use the name of God for any frivolous or malicious purpose or in magic. So this means countries like Iran, America, France, any country that lets you swear on any religious symbol. e.i.: Lawcourts, churches, PRAYING for your own sake...

**4th Commandment;: "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."

This is very clear. NO ONE of us humans, may work 7-days a week.
this means that we have to have at least(and at the MOST) 1 day in the week, that we must rest.
consequence: Nobody may have a practice that is working 24/7.
Not even our 'manservant' in your factory. We are equal or lesser then Him so we are not granted to have people working for us on our restingday.

**5th Commandment;: "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee."

We must honour our parents, that's obvious becouse the parent of my parents parents,.... IS Him.

**6th Commandment;:  "Thou shalt not kill."

No explanation needed i guess, but for the ignorant one:
God is everywhere even in your enemy, If you kill your enemy or whomever, you ultimatly kill God thereby yourselve.

**7th Commandment; "Thou shalt not commit adultery."

If you do so, consider commandment 2:
"... for I am a Jealous God" becouse you place your lust before your wife/husband(therefor God), and that is in confliction with commandment number one.

**8th Commandment;"Thou shalt not steal."

This one needs historical explanation: Theft is here, kidnapping a  human,
for any reason(slavery,prostitution,...), becouse the commandments are only applicable to humans, this means that we can take anything(other than a person, or FROM a person) that we find.

**9th Commandment;"Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour."

This forbids perjury while testifying in a courtroom. In ancient Israel, a person who lies in court receives the penalty that would be due a person guilty of the crime at question.
note:The Westminster Larger Catechism includes the sins of passing unjust sentence, tale bearing, whispering, boasting, etc...

**10th Commandment;"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's."

This means that if you desire anything that isn't yours, with envy, jealousy, you are busy in the wrong way. becouse the only One in our universe that may be jealous or have envy is God Himselve.

Harsh words, but fair words.
We can and may do a lot in His world, be gratefull for it,
If your words rest on facts(truth) you may say anything from God is real, to God is Science, even call Him a different name, or worship him in a different manner.
The only thing you have to do is:
living your life to the fullest of your capabilities, with your own talents(to use a biblical expression).
And trying to do so in a way that does not conflict with yourselve(God)
I'm not saying I AM GOD, just that ,like You, I am a part of the Big Guy up above or anywhere He may feel confortable.

So please do not believe ANY relegion that places whelt(richness) before Anything else...
see:
Catholisism:http://www.vatican.va
Science:http://www.fas.org
NGO's:http://www.universalgiving.org/ngo_partners/index.jsp
Why do they need money if anyone, everyone can try to do it for free?
I can not say if I do or do not believe, nor force my believes unto other people e.g.:crusading, missionarywork, preaching, begging, accumulate great whelt, writing this endconclusion...
So anyone that does believe in him/her-self UNDOUBTLY believes there is Something far greater than Us. And maybe the name for This is God, Allah, Jehova, Jahwe, the Force, or like SNAP, the Power.

But because i'm perfect, be i also wrong can ...

But still it is a SPHERE! LOL

Flat Earth Q&A / So, how did you end up on this site?
« on: March 29, 2006, 08:25:04 AM »
Hi to all!
So you wanna know how I found this site?

Well, it surely wasn't easy to find. I was looking for reference pictures for artwork I make, so I typed 'Earth' on www.alltheweb.com and to my surprise i found a site about a society that believes the Earth is flat.
And the fact my artist name is Qbicle i wanted to take a look, and from that look came a grin(around my mouth(on my face)), from that grin came all kinds of inspiration(for my art), and so i joined the society.

But i have one question
What shape is the earth if it is:
 -1. a disk
 -2. not round???

Please tell me, i am realy confused, becouse if that statement proofs to be real, what is the definition of a disk then?

But, being a humanoid that can reason, i guess you guy's mean ROUND, sphere-like?

I'm a 'still' non-flatearth believer.

Greetings from Belgium.
