The Lounge / Is 'color' a real word?

I dislike "colour" because I always pronounce it "cull-ow-er" in my head.  "Color" just makes more sense phonetically.  I know there are a million other phonetic quirks in the English language, but getting rid of one is still better than nothing.

If you read colour as cull-ow-er there's something wrong with you. How can you read it as a three syllable word? I'm curious, do you read all "our" words as "ow-er"?

It basically comes down to what you're used to. Admittedly there probably are some non-americans who prefer "color" instead of "colour" but they deserve to be shot. You said it yourself, there's no real phonetic consistancy in the English alphabet... so what's one more word to learn? Is it really that hard for you that you can't remember that colour is colour and not "cull-ow-er"

The dashes are there in order to distinguish the "ow" sound, not to denote syllables.  Basically I read it as "cull" (with the u as an "uh" sound) and then how one would normally pronounce the word "sour" (without the s, of course).  Cuhllowr.

You say there's no real phonetic consistency, but I think we can agree that complete phonetic consistency would be best in an ideal world.  Well, taking the "u" out of words that don't need them is at least a small step towards that noble goal.

Flat Earth Q&A / Google Earth fake? ORLY? Check this out.

I'm not a flat earther, but Google gets a LOT of its imagery from aircraft. Little of it is satellite imagery.

Nice try though.

A forum search would have saved you all that trouble

Certainly, but I doubt it could be done using only planes. For example, don't you think Kim Jong-il would be a little unhappy about American planes flying all over North Korea?

I posted this in the other thread about Google Earth, and no one responded. Unless you're going to revert to some crap about Kim Jong-il being "part of the conspiracy", I don't see how Google could get around this other than by using satellites.

Do a search.

We've had users attempt to reproduce the effect from home with a long exposure time. The results were in favor of a flat earth.

don't tell me this is all you got.PLEASE.

I'VE SEARCHED. if you know more, put them here.

Plus, not only was there only one picture in favor of a Flat Earth in that thread, but there was a perfectly nonblurred cloud in it.  The cloud would have moved had it been a long-term exposure, as it was supposed to be.

That's very nice, but you didn't explain at all. How are they faked?

You see, there's this new thing called "Picture Editing Software" ...

Like Adobe Photoshop, Bryce 6, and many others.

No, no, no. What I'm saying is, I can go onto Google Earth and find a pretty detailed picture of my house. How is that possible outside of satellite technology? Does Google own a massive fleet of spy planes that takes pictures of every square inch of the world, or what?

The images on Google Earth are faked.
Explain
They show the Earth to be round, which it obviously isn't. Therefore the images must be faked.

That's very nice, but you didn't explain at all. How are they faked?
