Flat Earth Q&A / Re: global warming?
« on: December 17, 2009, 08:52:31 AM »
Global warming is a natural cycle, and as climategate has shown, there is not enough evidence to show that GW is even happening to the extent that we have been told. If we were going into an ice age, who/what would the government be blaming? Its all a natural cycle.

Tom, there is much more to the job industry than simply having experience! You can do something, but you also need to know what your actually doing! I can teach someone how to fix a car in a 3 hour course, but with a longer time, I can teach them why the car needs to be fixed, and how each step in the process helps in such a matter. Your college would only take people with experience, which means that everything you can teach them in 3 hours they already likely know, defeating the purpose of your "college".

The reason places like Harvard are highly regarded is because they have reason to be. Their students learn more in their time there than you can teach them in a 3 hour course. Students go there to learn and develop a future, not just to get a quick degree.

If I were an employer, experience would not be the most important factor. I would look at the degrees, where they are from, and how far the person worked for them. Yes, I would look at experience, but I want to make sure the person I am employing knows why they need to do something, not just how, and the real college course takes the time to explain why. You cant teach the full "why" in a 3 hour course. You can't.

Holy hell this is funny. Tom, I wish you good luck in getting someone to accredit a college based off of the ideas that the world is flat. If this was a religion it might be different, but this is not a religion: This is stupid. And even if you do get accredited by a "private agency", chances are that you will also be behind that "agency". Now, where would I rather get a degree in philosophy? A small uncredited "college" based off the idea that the world is flat, or an accredited state school that while it will cost me more, it will actually give me a future.

Besides, college is not all about the education. Its partially about the life on the campus. Student interaction, sports, arts, ect. Your college would have none of that, because it won't have any serious students lol.

Why not?  We have two hemiplanes.

Please explain how the current trade wind setup could work on hemiplanes. The reasons trade winds act the way they do, and thus form the ITCZ is because of the spherical shape of the Earth.

Surely you mean 'ITZ', Meterologist.
No, its the ITCZ. Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone. ITCZ. I do see what you quoted me saying though. I just typed it fast, so one key clicked before the other, my bad.

Trade winds originate because of heating and cooling effects. Surface air flows toward heat and the flow aloft is toward the colder regions.  This could just as well agree with the FE models.
The point I am trying to make is that with the FE models, the current setup could not exist, and the atmosphere relating to the ITCZ, which is what I originally wanted to focus on, could not actually exist. Trade winds, however they are formed, exist and act the ways they d because of different hemispheres, which would not exist in a FE.

Trade winds on Earth's surface have nothing to do with the sun, it has to do with the formation of the earth, the different hemispheres. Trade winds exist because the Earth is (spoiler alert) round. Nothing to do with the sun.

John Davis, thank you very much for attacking my argument head on and allowing a true debate to form.

Quote
Why could opposing trade winds not exist in a flat earth?
Without hemispheres, which a flat earth would not allow, trade winds would need to be manufactured, and it is impossible to create artificial winds that would be powerful enough to spread around the entire earth.

In my opinion, this is one of the areas flat earth theory is still under development.
In my opinion, this means "oops, our theory does not support this, but we will fix that so our beliefs remain constant" to be honest.

is this website a joke or something? oh my goodness, that is just so pathetic..

Unfortunately this website is not a joke, these people actually think the world is flat, and I am trying to show them proof that it is not, but they won't respond to it because they do not want to admit that they are wrong.

WPAC storms form from disturbances in the southern hemisphere. Japan itself is in the northern hemisphere. Anyways, none of you are discussing the original facts in my thread. It just proves that none of you can attack my argument.

"(not true) Hurricanes hitting Britain do not come from Africa. They are generated in the central west Atlantic."

Let me get more specific. Hurricanes form from tropical waves that come from the coast of Africa. Sure, whenever a hurricane might heads toward Europe, it comes from the central Atlantic, but the systems originate from tropical waves that come from Africa along the ITCZ.

"In any other ocean, they are not hurricanes."

Scientifically they are, they just go by other names. Typhoons, which are western pacific hurricanes, rotate in the opposite direction of our hurricanes, because of the different hemisphere.

This theory can be discarded because it is incompatible with the observed effect of both a north and south celestial pole. Next.

So, on a message board meant to discuss Flat Earth, a theory that has already been "disproven" you jump to disprove every theory that doesn't coincide with established science? You mean... Like the Flat Earth theory? We're all open minded here, but obviously you aren't.

There are tons of people here who believe in the round earth, why can't we be here? Is there a law against it?

Generally, I find that people who avoid the main discussion of a topic and try to find its faults do so because they can't counter the argument presented.

I have no reason to lie. If I were planning on lieing, I never would have joined here. I added the "o"s because I am well informed and know what I am talking about, and I don't want people to think I have no idea what I am talking about. That is aside the point though, I want someone to attempt to prove my points false.

Flat Earth General / Explain this

For starters, I am aware that I misspelled my user name. It should be "Meteorologist", as in a scientist of the weather and atmosphere, and I want you to explain something to me, something that disagrees completely with your theories. In fact, there are many factors of weather that disagree with your beliefs, but I want to focus on one at the moment.

It is called the ICTZ, or the "Intertropical Convergence Zone". It is a ring of tropical activity near the equator that encircles the entire Earth. The ICTZ is known for sending hurricanes our way from the coast of Africa, where tropical waves come from. The ICTZ is formed by opposing trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres, something that would not exist in a flat earth.

Other minor tidbits: Objects tend to rotate to the right in the northern hemisphere, and rotate left in the southern hemisphere, explain that. When cold fronts (whose existence also contradicts a flat earth, explain that) affect an area, the wind shifts are opposite in different hemispheres.

And please do not say that I am lieing, or that my facts, research, calculations, and knowledge are part of the conspiracy, I have been studying meteorology for a looong time, I know what I am talking about, thank you very much. The question is, do you?
