Flat Earth Q&A / Re: The Real Earth
« on: July 21, 2009, 12:39:31 PM »
Way to go with the ad hominem attacks, really shows your maturity. Also they did have the technology, it's called doctoring photos; this technology has been around almost as long as cameras.

Yes but in those days it was very easy to spot a doctored photo. Now it is 1000x harder, though 90% of the time still quite easy.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: I have a question about the stars
« on: July 21, 2009, 12:33:55 PM »
The atmosphere exists due to the properties of a spherical earth. Scientifically the atmosphere or atmolayer couldn't exist in the same sense with a flat earth, with no gravity and an upwards force of the earth moving upwards there is nothing to keep the atmosphere from spilling over the edge as such.

There is nothing to keep it in? Where did you find this information?

Well at first thought i assumed the 'ice wall' all you lot keep chatting on about could possibly keep the atmosphere in with your warped sense of science. But then the ice wall is only 150ft high. So then i suppose the UA could keep it there. But then the atmolayer would become spread so thin, whilst still moving upwards at the same rate at the Earth that it wouldn't really be an atmosphere. The very same reason there is a need for an ice wall to keep water in. Air flows much the same as water. If there is nothing keeping it centred around an area, i.e. gravity, then it will flow off the fastest route. In the flat earth sense, this would be to the sides spread out so thinly that life couldn't exists.

Ok just found a section about it in the FAQ. They really need to bold each Q in that thing to make it more obvious.

The atmolayer contains the same properties as the atmosphere. Are you suggesting the atmosphere is magical as well?

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: The Real Earth

The fact that you are arguing in every thread for it suggests so.

Arguing against an idea automatically makes me believe the opposite? So if I were to engage in an argument where someone claims cars are perfectly safe, and I say that isn't true, I automatically believe cars are dangerous? What kind of poor logic is that?

That's not poor logic. In such an argument there are 3 views. From your car one there is safe, neutral (agree neither way) or dangerous. If you argue against something as strongly as you do with the round earth theory then it logically suggests that you support the FE theory because neutrals rarely argue as strongly as you against one side. They listen to both sides and provide balanced opinions without making up their mind, which you don't do.

That's like saying if someone put a potato in front of you, despite it looking like a potato you would refuse to believe it was in fact a potato because every body else does think it's a potato. It makes no sense. You are arguing that you believe the FE theory just because everyone else believes another. Not because there is any actual proof of it.

No, I would not refuse it. I would, however, understand the possibility of it not being a potato.

And who said I believed FE theory?

The fact that you are arguing in every thread for it suggests so. Unless you are just playing devils advocate.

Still i say watch this. Is it faked?

Or that some people aren't sheep; or aren't fallacious. I don't know, you choose.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Proof the Earth is Round
« on: July 21, 2009, 11:16:19 AM »
It's fake.

I hope that clears up some confusion.

Show me a photographic image of a flat earth please.

But in regards to empirical evidence, the only way to provide an immensely high probability for the Earth being round would require first-hand observation from space, and even then, probability isn't 100%. So I'd like to know through what experiences you've come to assume the Earth being round.

Through what experiences have you come to assume that the world is flat?

Ok...you are coming out with a bunch of big made up words. What is the atmolayer? Searching on google turns up nothing which leads me to believe it's a word made up on these forums.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: The Sun
« on: July 21, 2009, 10:45:32 AM »
It doesn't look spherical at all, it looks flat. If it was spherical, it would be brighter at the centre than at the edges. Like this:

This is what a sphere looks like to our two dimensional human eyes. Notice how there are dark areas slowly shading into light areas.

Now go and take a long, hard look at the Sun. It doesn't look like that, does it?

That's a dumb thing to say. The image you just showed is reflecting light from another light source, the fact it's spherical means that light cannot reach all around it, hence the darker areas. The sun, is a light source. Light is pouring off it from every part. Shadow is therefore not created and so the sphere that you presented does not apply to the sun. If this is the kind of argument you use to try and prove your theories, then i find it hard to believe that anyone listens to you.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: Proof
« on: July 21, 2009, 10:38:11 AM »
Until evidence of many of your theories is shown, i.e. photographic, scientific data, film ect ect then it remains an unproven hypothesis, to which there is much more evidence against.

Photographs and film generally isn't considered scientific. However, clearly the flat Earth idea is unproven. I don't think anyone on this site has ever tried to communicate otherwise.

Then again, that's really not the point of this site and it's unfortunate that many people don't get it.

That's why i separated the two. I said photos, film and scientific data. But then photos can still be used as a large basis for evidence. In any scientific, geological or geographical study you take photos to record observations so you can keep coming back to them without trying to rely on the memory.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: Proof
« on: July 21, 2009, 10:31:21 AM »
I still ask for scientific proof. So far all of what has been said has no actual scientific back ground. It's all theory that can be placed among philosophy such as that of Plato and Aristotle. You guys seem to think that pulling out a few long words and saying it is scientific will pull everyone over to your side. Until evidence of many of your theories is shown, i.e. photographic, scientific data, film ect ect then it remains an unproven hypothesis, to which there is much more evidence against.

As for the Tom guy. You keep using the same thing for every argument. Even when someone argues validly against you in another thread and you can't argue back you simply try the same thing in a different thread, for instance your insistence on that pilot quote. Yet you have no proof that any quote from a pilot here is indeed actually a pilot. They could simply say they are. So until there is conclusive evidence for quoting other people on this forum, it cannot be included in an argument. Your debating skills suck royally.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: About circumnavigate
« on: July 21, 2009, 10:24:25 AM »
LOL  ;D ;D ;D

That made my laugh...

There's a simple way to find out if the plane is going slow or fast.... (shhhh... don't tell anyone, is a secret)

LISTEN THE ENGINES OF THE PLANE!!!!!

*applauds*
I love have no one from FES has actually given an answer. Are they all conspiring in their secret forum to try and come up with an answer using long words made up by...them and claiming it is all scientific without any actual scientific experiment conducted?

See i can come up with conspiracy theories too. Although it's more likely that they are just a bunch of idiots that the 99% of us who do believe in RE can laugh at.

Sorry, I didn't see that you were talking about km, and not feet (we normally discuss altitude in terms of feet her, so forgive me). In any case, these are just more unsubstantiated claims.

Just as yours are too.

Flat Earth General / Re: Why do you think the Earth is round?
« on: July 21, 2009, 09:59:36 AM »
After reading through the FAQ just to see what bull crap you FE people use to support your theories, it makes me howl with laughter. There are so many glaring holes in the theory, even in the FAQ that it would be impossible to address them all in a full day. The explanation for why circumnavigation of the earth is still possible was a particular favourite of mine. It just goes to show that the people who right this crap haven't really done much long distance travelling on foot, bike or car using only a map and compass.

Flat Earth General / Re: Why do you think the Earth is round?
« on: July 21, 2009, 09:40:28 AM »
I know why i think it, flying at 70000 feet, clear to the eye. Ok ok so this could be faked? Then hundreds of thousands of other images will also be faked? sure thing!:

If it were a conspiracy it would be on an immeasurable scale involving thousands of scientists and government personnel. Put simply, it's impossible. Twats.

Unless you have flown via concorde or in high-altitude military jets, you cannot possibly have seen the curvature of the Earth. Even if the Earth was round, you would have to be at an altitude way above that used by commercial airliners today to observe the Earth's curvature. I think 60,000 feet is the approximate figure given, but I'm not sure.

Needless to say, that means you definitely cannot observe said curvature from the beach. That's not just the viewpoint of Flat Earth Theory; RE scientists will tell you the same thing.

Simplistic observation. You fail at it. Ever watched a sailing ship as it goes directly out towards the horizon? The ship line slowly dissapears until only the sails can be seen. It's something that has been observed for hundreds of years. Even taking a strong telescope and watching it, it still happens, so it can't be down to distance and the ship looking smaller.
