Flat Earth Debate / Re: Timezones?
« on: June 27, 2016, 06:38:10 PM »
The moon makes its own light.

Except we've ben there and it doesn't.

No we haven't and yes it does.
Ok what evidence do you have to support this theory?  How does it make its own light?  I have known people involved in the space program, and there are many scientists, mostly retired, in my neighborhood, they have some pretty compelling evidence.

Did they bring some moon pigeons home with them?

My question is about the earth accelerating at 9.8 m/s. If that's the case, shouldn't we have reached light speed in less than a year of Earth's existence?

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Earth's Existence
« on: June 06, 2016, 02:59:58 PM »
From what I've gathered, most flat earthers believe that while the earth is flat, but other planets, moons, etc. are not. Why would this be so?
Your question betrays a lack of understanding of logical fallacy. If I were to see black birds my whole life, I would be led to believe all birds are black. Of course this is not the case. In fact, using strict logic each black bird I see actually increases the chance that the next bird I would see would be white. This was noted by Karl Popper among others and is known as the Problem of Induction. You might as well be asking "If dogs bark, why don't cats bark?" Until there is a logical validation of induction we must discount this silliness as faith and religion. Of course someone might then argue "Oh, well we know induction is true by experience!" Again Popper would point out that this leads to infinite regression as you would need on each level to justify your assumption through an inductive principle of a higher order. And again with a probabilistic outlook you find issues. This is why its an open problem. Popper tried to fill the hole by drawing a line in the sand and saying falsification is king but then on the same page he goes into why this doesn't work - ad hoc hypotheses can keep anything alive indefinitely and yet are still necessary for science to function.

On another level your question fails - many planetary bodies are flat. Some dwarf planets, asteroids, galaxies, and so on are flat.

From what I've gathered, most flat earthers believe that while the earth is flat, but other planets, moons, etc. are not. Why would this be so?

That's because the earth is special, for some reason.
Science has not dealt with 'reasons' since Aristotlean mindsets were overtaken during the Age of Enlightenment. You are no better than a dark age plebian by using this as some sort of attack.

The Earth is special because empirical evidence already shows us this. The only thing leading you to say otherwise is the principle of Copernicus which must be taken on faith alone or really a certain kind of philosophical stint that has been popular for a bit now. Neil Tyson calls it 'society growing up and not being the center of the universe.' This is not founded in logic but really his 'feelings' about things and qualitative subjective assessment. IN reality, its an axiom taken on faith masquerading as a principle or tool of science. We so often hide our faith behind stupid little names that we forget that the Giants on whoms shoulders we stand recognized them for what they are, making us nothing more than dogmatic drones.

In an everexpanding universe with billions of planets and galaxies, why should we believe we are special? That's simply an arrogant claim.

Anybody seen the fat lady?

Thanks for that reference. Really needed the laugh.  ;D

I know this has been posted a million times, but why do you keep clutching at straws if you can even create a proper map of your flat earth?

Flat Earth Debate / Re: the fake curvature and the blind man
« on: June 04, 2016, 12:18:57 PM »
do you understand your claim about "I can see no land because of the curvature" is just absurd, guys!?
please wake up, it's way too easy to explain. but I'll do it for you.

earth is flat, literally. world's highest mountain is 8 km high. think about that. 8 km.

8 km is nothing.

the average level of land is between 500/600 METERS...

so, you're in the ocean, or in any given point of the earth, thousands of KM away from a given land which is LITERALLY flat, and you pretend to see what?

are you for real?

do you even consider atmosphere and its thickness?

you don't see because you CAN'T see, it's PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE.

you pretend to see 10000 km away something that's 0,600 high? with the atmosphere?

Technically, the largest mountain's a volcano, that being Hawai'i. I don't see why you would expect a mountain larger than our current ones; mountains aren't that tall because no two plates have collided and created that much force upwards to make something as insanely large as 30 or 40 km.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Weather Balloons
« on: June 04, 2016, 12:07:32 PM »
Please post a picture of said curvature from your camera.

You are probably using a gopro which has an fisheye lens, which makes the horizon look curved.

I have never seen any real curvature.
I'd love to show you. I'll use a camera without a fisheye lense, but it'll take awhile for the weather balloon to arrive.

Take into consideration beforehand that they might say these things afterwards:
  • Nope, definitely the fisheye effect there. The horizon is flat, it's just the fisheye effect making it curvy
  • You surely faked the footage
  • Is that from a highschool project? Woow... (sarcastic)
  • No that's not curvature, that is {put some BS here}
Just make sure those things are addressed. Anyway, good luck and hope you'll get some nice footage.

Actually, since that's the case, what if I ship it to a flatearther and have them record it? Surely they wouldn't believe they faked their own footage.

Thought this was a gay porno. Disappointed. But, serious answer: had no idea how to do this. I got a difference of 23 degrees. What number are you looking for?

I mean, I could always prove it to you with a little bit of U-235, Deuterium, Tritium, and H2. But, to be brutally honest, I don't want to be arrested by the FBI for trying to prove you wrong.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Antarctic Ice Wall? BS!
« on: June 03, 2016, 09:37:36 PM »
If the earth is flat and surrounded by a wall of ice as your model states:

How did these explorers walk from one side of Antarctica to the other?

Key:

The lines each represent an expedition by an explorer or group of explorers. These guys are (for the most part) not agents of the government and would have no reason to cover anything up, which begs the question:

Where's the ice wall? Wouldn't they have hit it before reaching the other side of the planet?

Simple Answer: They want to be cool so they deny the truth. Basically science hipsters.

If the Earth is flat, what's happening when I strap a camera to a weather balloon and see the curvature? And please, don't say something like "oh, it was taken by the USSR and photoshopped" or "LIZARD SATAN *uncomprehensible insanity*".

Now the only know circle is the SUN, Since Sun is the ANCHOR POINT OF OUR GALAXY, and doesnt rotate unless proven wrong with a scientific research, Lets say the sun is the "HUMAN" and "PLANETS ARE THE BALLS" the "SUN" is the constant strain on how much pull and push needed to "THROW" every planet at the same distant unless collide with different BIGGER PLANET THAT would knock it off the ORBIT...

Just going to say now, Sol isn't the center of the galaxy. The center of the galaxy is actually a black hole, hence explaining the brightness you typically see from artist's drawings of the center of the galaxy. It also rotates, it's just an iffy field because different parts rotate at different times, directions, etc.

Flat Earth Debate / Earth's Depth
« on: June 03, 2016, 08:49:52 PM »
I may not have posted on here before, but I've spent the past weeks looking at this forum. My main question is, if you believe the Earth is flat, how deep is it? And, if it isn't round, how is it that we can witness the bouncing of S-waves and P-waves?
