Flat Earth Q&A / Re: Problems with the FE theory.
« on: July 12, 2014, 09:07:52 PM »
- How do we fall?
-The world cannot be moving 'up' with an acceleration of ~9.81 m/s, or else it would be going faster than light right now. (It must be an acceleration, a constant speed would not make us fall, since that would be incorporated into our jumping velocity.)

Special Relativity tells us that something can accelerate indefinitely without ever reaching the speed of light.  Maybe you should learn SR.

edit: so many questions at once.  You would do better to ask one question at a time.

Also, moving this to FEQ&A

That's only from the reference from of the observer.

From an outside reference frame it would have to exceed the speed of light, which is still impossible.

How does Torque account for the rotation?

DO you have any mathematical, provable, testable, repeatable proof to back that up?

Also, what are these object reflecting off of? Does the earth have a roof now?

Why are they reflecting, but not reflecting the ground around them? (That'd be like looking into a mirror and seeing my own disembodied head!)

What object's that exist on Earth could possibly be creating reflections of planets with rings, and THE SUN? Where do we have that constant hydrogen fission reaction?

Would would we have seasons?

Yes! It's all a conspiracy to make people think the Earth is round!
Because that would be a USEFUL thing to trick people into thinking.

Step 1.) Make people think the Earth is round!
Step 2.) ???
Step 3.) Become GODS!

MWHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!

There are no directions in space. It tilts relative to it's own orbit.

The human eye can see an infinite distance, given that the object your viewing is large enough.

- How do we fall?
-The world cannot be moving 'up' with an acceleration of ~9.81 m/s, or else it would be going faster than light right now. (It must be an acceleration, a constant speed would not make us fall, since that would be incorporated into our jumping velocity.)
-The existence of an intrinsic 'down' would cause the Earth, and other planets to fall that way, which would yield the same results as the point above. Also, macro matter clearly attracts, as per what we can see in the universe.

-How do you explain the refraction of light through the atmosphere to produce colors only consistent with a curved atmosphere?

-If the Earth is flat, and has edges, what's keeping the atmosphere on the 'top'?

-Why can I take a flight from Britain, to Germany, to china, to america to Britain, without going back on myself?

-Why are there  varying star constellations in different parts of the world?

-Why can we see farther from higher? Human view distance is potentially infinite, we can see stars that are very, very, very, very, very far away. Why can we see things on Earth that are further away when we are higher up?

-Why are time Zones polar? It's never the case that no part of the earth is without the sun. Why is that so? If the Earth was flat either we wouldn't have varying days and nights or there would come a point where NONE of the Earth has light.

-How would the "Foucault Pendulum" work if the Earth was either accelerating, or there was an intrinsic down?

-If we've never been to space, why does my GPS work?

---More importantly: During lunar eclipses (when the Earth’s orbit places it directly between the Sun and the Moon, creating a shadow in the process), the shadow on the Moon’s surface (cause by the earth) is round.

Since the earth is rotating (see the “Foucault Pendulum” experiment for a definite proof, if you are doubtful), the consistent oval-shadow it produces in each and every lunar eclipse proves that the earth is not only round but spherical.

---If you stick a stick in the ground, it will produce a shadow. The shadow moves as time passes. If the world had been flat, then two sticks in different locations would produce the same shadow.

But they don’t. This is because the earth is round, and not flat.

---Consider a sphere. Since a sphere has a consistent shape, no matter where on it you stand, you have exactly the same amount of sphere under you. Imagine an ant walking around on a crystal ball. Assuming the crystal ball is polished, the ant’s only indication of movement would be the fact it’s moving its feet. The scenery (and shape of the surface) would not change at all.

Consider a flat plane. The center of mass of a flat plane is in its center (more or less – if you want to be more accurate, feel free to do the entire integration process), and the force of gravity will pull a person toward the middle of the plain. That means that if you stand on the edge of the plane, gravity will be pulling you toward the middle, not straight down like you usually experience.

I am quite positive that even for Australians an apple falls downwards, but if you have your doubts, I urge you to try it out – just make sure it’s nothing that can break or hurt you. Just in case gravity is consistent after all.

When I jump I don't stay in the air...therefor (Since I would be traveling up at the same speed as the earth before I jumped) It must be constantly accelerating to "catch up with me" ... 2 problems with that...:

-Why doesn't it catch up with things like planes?
-What happens when it get's to the speed of light?

Of course you realize that the following questions each deserve their own post. What you may not realize is that the FAQs answer most of your questions.

I've read the FAQ...it just..."Claims things"...providing no evidence...for instance: "The sun moves in circles around the North Pole. When it is over your head, it's day. When it's not, it's night. The sun acts like a spotlight and shines downward as it moves." - that's a claim...with no evidence...

It doesn't really answer any of my questions...

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Cult of Gravity
« on: February 14, 2013, 06:29:14 AM »
According to science, gravity clearly does not exist. It cannot be reproduced by experiment and no reproducible theories explain why it would (or could) exist.

If your going to say "According to science, gravity clearly does not exist." then it can't just be a lack of evidence, there must be scientific PROOF that it does not exist...so where is it? Please go ahead and link me to all this proof. Granted that the only solid evidence for gravity is observational, it's the most solid thing we have right now...on the FE how exactly do we stay on the ground?

Gravity is a myth. The link above is probably by a false-flagger, or it could be by a misguided early convert.

What are you even talking about and what did it have to do with my post? Do you mean the link on Celestial Gravitation? If so there is still a whole second half to my post. :P

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Flat Earth Kryptonite

I can shoot a sight of Polaris on my sextant and calculate my latitude, and I can do this anytime Polaris is visible. Now by shooting Polaris one is measuring the angle between the observer, and the center of the "northern star wheel". That's all well and good because now we have an angle, and the angle decreases as one travels north. Now on the flat earth map this makes perfect sense, because if one travels north from any point, one is moving toward the North Pole, which terrestrially corresponds with the celestial center of the northern star wheel, and all is well. Unfortunately the sky in the Southern Hemisphere has a celestial center that is every bit as centered and as measurable as the one in the northern hemisphere, and if I measure that angle I am again given my latitude, exactly as I am in the north. In FE there is no center to the Southern Hemisphere that could give a correct latitude shot and yet this is easily accomplished by any decent navigator with a sextant, and I have personally done this as well. On a flat earth there could be only one center that would give a correct latitude by measuring it, while a round rotating planet has two, just as we observe. Spinning wheels and clockwork arms are inelegant, and perhaps that could be a forgiven quirk of some creator, but the mathematical impossibility of having two points to measure latitude from on a flat earth is inescapable.
I can run at 2000 mph and I can fly. Did I mention I can bench press 2500 lbs and I once saved everyone in Japan form an earthquake? Don't however, expect me to endure the indignity of having to prove my claims.

I don't believe you own, let alone use a sextant for navigation.
I don't believe even if you were navigating in the Southern Hemisphere you'd use a sextant in the 21st century.
I don't believe you've "personally" measured angles for stars in both hemispheres for navigation.

This OP is a coulda woulda shoulda. You've decided how would something differ between round earth and flat. You've then claimed that you've done it. And now you want flat earthers to explain it, knowing that you made up a scenario based on the differences in the first place.

Basically you've tried to set up an argument you can't lose by lying about the circumstances in order to excuse your complete lack of any sources or evidence at all.

What is the point in a debate like that? Lets play chess instead.

I'm black, you're white. Its your move. I hope you don't mind that I set the board up in a way that I can't lose and given you no room to maneuverer; only I've no intention of making this interesting or learning anything or taking you on with a fair and level playing field. Enjoy.

Why don't you just try it yourself and report the results? Equality is Equality, you have to prove your claim that the earth is flat, and that the original poster is incorrect.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Why FE vs RE?

Those who believe the Round Earth explanation of things posit that the Earth is a Sphere, and space is 3 dimensionally flat, and infinite in all directions.

Would just like to point out that believing the earth is flat has nothing to do with believing space is infinite.

Flat Earth Debate / Celestial Gravitation?

http://theflatearthsociety.org/wiki/index.php?title=Celestial_Gravitation

Was just wondering, since this claimed to be part of some flat earth models, where I could find more detailed information on this subject? Where is the maths to back it up? Or any experimental evidence? No offense but that wiki page is in a pretty sorry state, all it is is two lines of text doing nothing more than stating it exists.

In fact any genuine scientific or mathematical evidence that you could provide to support the flat earth claim would be of great help! :)

Also how do you explain things like:

-People who FLY from Australia to Africa?
-When at sea it is possible to see high mountains in the distance before lower lying ground and the masts of boats before the hull. It is also possible to see further by climbing higher in the ship, or, when on land, on high cliffs.
-The sun is lower in the sky as you travel north.
-The length of daylight varies more between summer and winter the farther you are from the equator.
-The times reported for lunar eclipses (which are seen simultaneously) are many hours later in the east (e.g. India) than in the west (e.g. Europe). Local times are confirmed later by travel using chronometers and telegraphic communication.
-It is possible to circumnavigate the world; that is, to travel around the world and return to where you started.
-The earth throws a circular shadow on the moon during a lunar eclipse, despite it not being directly between the sun and the moon.
-The International Date Line
-An artificial satellite can circle the earth continuously and even be geostationary.

Some of my points are better explained by this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningzone/clips/how-do-we-know-the-earth-is-spherical/2457.html
