Flat Earth General / Re: Why do you believe the Earth is flat?
« on: March 27, 2020, 07:02:58 AM »
I am actually not 100% sure whether it is flat or some other shape, but I question things and not everything lines up under the so called accepted model.  but that is not the only reason.

But why does this matter to you?  If you and I believe in different things but neither causes harm to the other for those beliefs, why does it matter?  I am not forcing others to believe, or rather question spoon fed things, as I do.  I may, on occasion try to explain my beliefs, but after lurking on the forums here and experiencing real world confrontations because of my questions, I do not think it will ever go well.  Too many are too confrontational about the subject, I just want to know why.  If I were to say I believe the Earth is flat due to religious beliefs, someone will attack my religion, If I were to say that there are things that don't match up with what I was taught when I examine them, I will be attacked for not understanding "science" and some complex equation will be shoved into my face.  If I were to say I just feel like it is flat or some other shape, I will be attacked.

Wow, rudeness and silliness.
Spend some time examining the claims of round earthers.  Try to find whatever their "proof" is that did not come from the government.  (Government runs education in almost all countries, and almost all space agencies.  Governments are secretive and dishonorable, you should not trust the government.
Think about what actually makes sense and can be believed.  I would say that there is near to zero information or evidence out there that was not provided in some way by the government.
If you still believe in a round earth, there may be nothing that can be done to convince you of the truth.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: A question I have for Flat Earthers
« on: June 14, 2018, 09:57:56 AM »
They look round, but are they really round and what is there real true size?  The Earth is special, it is the only place that life exists.  The reason could be that a creator did this, or that the Earth is unique.  If we had proof that there was life that could talk to us from these other "planets" then maybe we could use the Earth may be like those places.  But aside from secretive organizations primarily ran by governments, we have no evidence of the actual size, shape, makeup, etc. of those "planets".
I am a skeptic in all things secretive, thos organsiations are very secretive, with or without the government funding.  Yes there are reasons, but those reasons are no more plausible than what many of the FE supporters claim.

So, technically, I'm a government employee?
Yes, You are caught now.  I saw you at the watercooler this morning.

Rather rude.  The first link is from a couple of months ago and it was about what the sun was made of.  The second is about how the sun keeps burning and the thrid is about craters.  Please tell us how searching for this question will reveal have assed answers that you think relates to this question will bring us anything at all?  The threads you linked to are not covering the same thing as this question is.  Do you understand how the search function works or are you being an asshole for a purpose?  Interesting thinking about the possible purpose though, your answers to those questions are also equally as dodgy as you did in the other thread.  Are you trying to destroy the FE model from within by chipping away at any credibility it may have?  Why?

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Horizon curve
« on: May 29, 2018, 06:28:23 AM »
Seeing something above you is only seeing through a few miles of dense atmoplane.  Looking to the horizon is looking through many miles of dense atmoplane.  You can't compare them.
Playing devils advocate here, but why do those photo's of the moon setting look pretty much as clear on details as the ones form when the moon is higher in the sky?
I don't see this as an adequate response to the question.  If it was atmosplanic density causing the distant shorlines to disapear, it would also make the moon disapear way higher in the sky, or at the very least, cause it to be very much more hazy and distorted than what I have personally seen during a moonset.
I think I have made myself fairly clear about not believing the round Earth model and am trying to understand the flat Earth model better, but these types of dodgy answers do more harm than help.

Understand, I have not fully researched it yet, and I have a job every night to fill most of my time so I haven't been able to devote much time to the thought of this in particular.  I have been wondering about this myself though,  Could it be something like electron shells in relation to the dome?  The sun being in a lower concave shell to the dome than the moon.  Just a preliminary thought process.
I am sure Jack will be in shortly to show me how silly the idea is, I welcome his or any others feedback, it forces me to think about it again.  I just don't want this to be a thread of RE supporters congratulating each other because no FE or others(like myself) give any answers to the question.

The Lounge / Another School Shooting
« on: May 18, 2018, 01:58:33 PM »
Well, today there was yet another school shooting.  The usual players spouting the usual crap are all out in force to argue with each other.
I am so pissed off by this.  There is always some media uproar, people pick sides and argue for a while, yet nothing gets done.  Just argue argue argue, call each other names and never try to discuss a plan that we may somewhat agree on.
First, there is a problem that we need to address.  Is it bullying in school, is it parenting or lack thereof?  Or is it access to weapons?
I personally do not think you should blame the guns but I hate just laying it all at the feet of the parents also.

We have cut the nuts out of our parental structures in this country, we reward kids for showing up to make them all feel special, we go out of our way not to hurt a child's feelings, and we wonder why kids cannot deal with adversity.  I may be wrong, but this needs to be dealt with.  It shouldn't be the latest weapon we bash each other over the head with so we can claim the other side is stupid or unfeeling.  I almost hope for some catastrophe to come along and knock us all on our asses to where we have to work together to survive.  A worldwide EMP would probably do the trick.  Knock us back to the stone age, whoever survives the killing floor would most definitely learn how to work as a team and stop the petty drama.

Why would I not continue accelerating just as the Earth does, only 4 feet above the ground?

Have you redefined "universal"?
Semantics are not a valid argument,  Just because you wish to play silly with someone else's use of the term universal acceleration doesn't excuse your intentional ignorance of constant acceleration.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: gravity changes at different altitudes
« on: May 15, 2018, 08:00:31 AM »
This is something I need to see myself.  For now, I can believe that you believe it and I have as much reason to believe it myself as to dismiss it.  Is there a way to do these measurements myself?
You understand that much of the FE proposals are that we are being lied to by the greater scientific community and many others take the explanations as gospel.  If you wish to convince someone you can't just say its been measured.  There is a basis of distrust of authority, who in fact have lied before and have a motive for lying now.

What would bring us back to Earth, were we to, for some unknown reason, jump into the air?
Nothing. Earth speeds up and catches up with us.

So, if I attend a basketball game, I should feel fluctuations in my "weight" every time a player jumps? Or even throws the ball?

I can feel very slight changes in acceleration while riding in a car.
Why would there be changes?  I guess you were saying the acceleration would change per person jumping or something like that but its not.  Constant acceleration, as in unchanging, at 9.8 meters per second per second.  It isn't something that reacts to each person, but continues to accelerate as a complete thing with each objector person riding on top of it.  Also, you jump into the air, but what would continue to accelerate you faster than the acceleration of the Earth moving up to you when you jump.

17
I am not arguing from either side of the debate, but if you can remove air resistance as a factor by performing the experiment in a vacuum chamber or using identically shaped enclosures(like a water bottle filled 1/4 and on full)  Everything hits the floor at pretty much the same time which means falling at the same rate.
Also, whether by centrifical, acceleration upwards or gravity accelerating downwards, the objects would essentially react identically.  Gravity supporters point out some measurable but absolutely microscopic differences determined on ground density and altitude that needs to be explained better than what it has been so far.  Like I said, I am not trying to argue from a side but someone will take offense to that more than likely.

Flat Earth Debate / What if
« on: May 11, 2018, 08:54:31 AM »
So gravity seems to be a sticking point for most RE people.  They also say the universal accelerating model doesn't work.  I am just playing around thinking of a model that may solve those two issues.  Yes I know there are numerous issues with many other aspects of the FE that RE people have problems with.  I am just starting out and want to build a model that addresses as many of these concepts as possible.
So to start, I propose a spinning central "celestial machine" that swings the Earth around and the centrifical force is what we experience as gravity.

Maybe there are multiple "Earths"  and NASA learned this during their attempts to go to space.  Just spitballing, don't go full on mental on me.
Disclaimer:  I will repeat, I am just thinking of the very initial proposals of a model.  I am not suggesting this is correct in any way yet.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: As Flat As a Dance Floor

I'm always looking for a way for my observations to be explained in a way that matches my personal gut feelings on the matter.  Please explain more about these tide balls and how do we not notice this terrain altitude increase at the terminating area of the ball's influence.  Seriously, I want to know what they may be.  This would be something interesting to set up a test for.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Does FE-theory even make testable claims?
« on: January 08, 2018, 01:48:27 PM »
There could be many that fall into this category of testable claim.  Any experimental result that could be explained by a FE claim or it outright supports FE claims.  Meaning that the RE explanation for the result do not contradict or nullify the FE explanation.  Those would be testable claims, although they would be inconclusive and unusable results if the goal was to prove one way or another between an FE model and a RE model.

23
Which model are you referring to?  I have seen the celestial gears model, and aetheric whirlpool model.  If you try to understand the non-euclidean model, the Sun and Moon travels in a straight line, intriguing but over my head.

24
I do not understand.  If you actually looked at what is said on these forums before registering, why would you use a name that you are known by elsewhere online?
This intikam person is rather silly, but so many people seem to be overly angry with him.  I can see where it is upsetting to be accused of being a terrorist supporter, but research the source of that accusation.  That should show you that anyone who may see it and see how many people he has on that list would dismiss his claims of you being a terrorist supporter.  There really is no need to get angry with him since that is what he seems to want.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: Are trees really absorb carbon dioxide?
« on: October 13, 2017, 12:21:22 PM »
Is this Intikam person for real?  If so, why must you contribute to the reasons people make fun of anyone who tried to propose an alternative theory of the shape of the Earth.  Proposing crazy stuff like this only hurts any chances that someone like me will get any respect when questioning the validity of the RE model.
If you are just another REer pretending to be a FE proponent, please stop, no one who is trying to actually figure this stuff out needs your idiotic ramblings.
Perhaps you are mentally unstable, if so please find another hobby.  You seem to make yourself a target to the REers, they come in taking your bait to point out the idiotic things you have claimed, then you put them on an ignore list to piss them off.  You are not helping FE models, you are destroying any notion of credibility someone suggesting an FE theory may have had.

Yeah yeah, the REers here will say that you have to be mentally unstable to consider FE, that is simply not true.  Yes FEers need to find ways to answer for observations made that appear to not agree with anything other than RE, but they have to make sense.  This spout anything you want just to get people to argue with you so you can then fill up an ignore list is rather childish don't ya think?  I figure this is your goal though, make yourself seem as outlandishly off the rails as possible to discredit anyone who questions things.  Not a conspiracy type thing here, but more of an idiot who thinks its fun to do so.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: my biggest problem with the FE
« on: September 21, 2017, 07:52:34 AM »
Thank you for the responses so far.  I still do not have anything that I feel confident use for defense of this yet.

I will say, it seems very odd to me that on a site, that professes to be FE, that no one supporting FE will give me help in a supporting an argument against the FE model.
I can't just say that the South Pole is the center of the FE, because, first I do not support that, and second then the question switches to How the Stars move around the North pole.  I need an answer that matches those realities at the same time.  Sorry I am frustrated with this.   The only people that seem to answer me are mainly people either arguing against my point, I am asking for supporting arguments in Q&A here, or give me something pretty vague that really doesn't help.  I am not complaining about the people who have answered, thank you for taking the time to try to help me, I am chastising the ones who sit back and say nothing when they should have some answer to this question if they truly support a FE as ardently as they claim.  I claim to be unsure, and I am.

I am questioning, I have to try to ignore everything I have learned and some things I currently use in my field of work as far as physics and math to get to the point that I could look at FE with as open a mind as I could muster.  I feel I did a pretty good job with it, there were some pretty good reasons for letting go of my trust of certain aspects of math and physics.  I do not suggest alternatives to the RE models on a whim.  I actually try to find what would be possible with a FE model and test that hypothesis.

With that being said, I will just accept my defeat, buy the damn beer.

Flat Earth Debate / Re: A few questions
« on: September 19, 2017, 01:12:15 PM »

Currently, the only FE model which doesn't have these impossibilities is one which is simply mapping RE to a flat surface. That means you have space bend and loop around and you have light bend as well, and not just bending to follow the space.

But this raises the question of how you measure the curvature of space?
For us, we can use light and have light travel in straight lines.
For this "FE" model, it would use Earth, and have the sea level (or something else) on Earth be deemed "straight".

This is a bit interesting.  So space is curved and the Earth is flat in this model?  Is everything traveling in a "straight" path that we observe to be curved too?  I am a bit confused by that.  How do distance measurements work like between the Earth and the Sun?  You say space is curved and light with it, in this model.  If light bends with space then how far does it curve, what is the size of the universe?  is it a ball, a donut, or whatever?  I don't think this is a model you support, you appear to be a very staunch supporter of RE, but I would like to understand this model.  Are there any FE people who know more about it?  No one that seems to be serious about the FE idea answers my questions.  I only get RE people, or someone who  says something is a certain way but will not help me explain why it is that way.

Please, can someone explain the southern sky problem to me?

Provides another great reason to believe there is a 'south pole'.
Quote
It also rotated the opposite way around that point.
Incorrect, both the southern and northern stars appear to move in the same direction from our standpoint on Earth, both east to west. One rotates counterclockwise and the other clockwise since we are looking at them in different directions.
Quote
I have tried thinking of it as a mirrored effect, but the stars do not line up and it still won't work if I am to trust the words of people in South Africa and South America.
I have heard this explanation before, could you explain how you came to this conclusion? I would like to hear your reasoning.
First, Why call what I stated as incorrect then restate pretty much the same thing I said.  You could have said it was for clarification, but the point is moot.
The reason the mirror doesn't work from what I saw personally and what I can examine in photos which agree with what I saw is the stars themselves do not match up with any reflection of the Northern stars.  When looking at time-lapsed video of the Southern sky, the point at which the stars rotate is much different than the one to the North.  Now, my eyes don't do time-lapsed videos but I did watch the sky long enough to notice the stars move overhead.  And enough to notice the direction they moved.  These are things I cannot find a proper explanation for.  I need something that he will not destroy very easily.  Much of the contents of my wallet will be used on beer to go into his belly if I cannot find a suitable answer that cannot be shown to be impossible.  If the answer is not impossible, I win.  I have until Friday to give him my explanation.

So I looked this up, it looks like it was a bit more of a disaster than, "Some gutters overflooded".  I'm sure those 11 dead folks would agree that it was a bit more than that.

Parts of Fukuoka prefecture were hit by 774 millimetres of rain in nine hours on Wednesday, more than two times the amount of rain that falls in a normal July, NHK said.
