Flat Earth Debate / Purpose of a Conspiracy
« on: April 05, 2007, 12:05:56 PM »
Okay, FE's... so even if I were to agree with all of your theories, WHY would there be a mass conspiracy to promote the belief that the world is round?  What purpose would that serve?  Economic? Political? Power?  People have to have motives for efforts such as these.  Explain please.....

"purpose" is a label for an association that takes on meaning to humans.

Case in point:

As I'm sitting at my desk, I'm looking at how my keys are resting on top of a few papers.  Does it serve a purpose there?  I randomly threw my keys on the table and they happened to land on those papers, but is there a purpose in them being there?  If there was a fan blowing in my apartment then I might have consciously placed them there to keep my papers from flying away.  That would constitute a purpose.  My keys would then serve the purpose of keeping my papers in place.  But, that is not the case.  Now, if I were some crazy mystic, i could always make up some belief that maybe there's something in those papers that i don't need to see because they hold some ill-fated consequence by my reading them, therefor, I subconsciously put my keys on them without my knowing and now my keys serve the purpose of preventing me from reading those evil papers.

Purpose = meaningful association.  'Meaningful' is relative to the observer.

The Bible is a self-fulfilling prophecy:

I was waltzing through the square at my university yesterday and there was this fundamentalist bible-banger standing in our little 'free-speech' area (I can't believe they actually designated a spot for this at one point), preaching relentlessly about acknowledging your 'one true savior' -- this is the protagonist.  Then, of course were the antagonists, the several passers-by who heckled him and told him that he needed an education , yadda-yadda-yadda....

This cracks me up.  By egging this guy on, all they're doing is feeding his self-affirmations about his place among the 'chosen people'.  The Bible says, 'you will be persecuted'.  Guess what's happening?  He's being persecuted.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: Airplanes
« on: April 05, 2007, 11:29:46 AM »
The Engineer may be a rec. pilot, but this is what my dad flew for 20 years:

http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/t-38/

As far as the highest altitude an airplane can go, it depends on the aircraft because there is a fine line between what is considered astronautical and aeronautical.  For instance, the X-15 is probably the highest flying aircraft made; record flights have reached over 100miles (the limits for astronautical used to be only 50miles, but because of these flights were extended to 100 miles).  This jet is considered more of a rocket-jet. Pictures taken from this aircraft easily show the visible curve of the earth.

I can't understand what the hell you're asking with all of that strange grammar.  Do flat earth schools teach you a special language, too?

I didn't clarify, a T-37 Cessna is not the same as a military jet that my father flew.  Cessna is a brand name, t-37 is their model.  Air force jet is a souped up version of this.

Every single one of you people is either completely ignorant or extremely mentally ill.

If you're ignorant of the actual science that proves the earth is round because you've never traveled outside of your ass-backwards little religious towns and you were'nt given the priviledge of attending a decent elementary school, then it's forgivable and there's hope for you.

On the other hand, if your very lucid of the infinately supportive evidence of a round earth and you still choose to proclaim that it's all a massive conspiracy and only believe what you can personally experience first-hand, you have a serious paranoidal sickness that needs attention.  Please, check yourselves into a mental institution, you're a drain on society.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: EARTH IS FLAT, I EXPLAIN THE REASONS
« on: April 04, 2007, 10:24:28 AM »
If earth was a globe, nasa and others won't launch shuttle and satellite in space.

They will launch like a plane who fly. because a plane flyying in straight line over a sphere, aflter a certain time, it would be beyond the sphere

Why fight gavity's laws, when you can get out of earth with a plane.

And i would to add an another argument.

Satellite on space don't exist for this simple reason.

Ionosphere reflects radiowaves,

broadcast from the earth,

back down to different parts of world, just a passive communication satellite
That is why radio and television broadcasting possible over long distances

Ionosphere is a real reflector

Why not take a plane into outer space??

HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!

Do you have any concept what air pressure is, you moron?

Flight paths may be curved when plotted on an RE map or globe. Are they curved when plotted on an FE map? Can you show me a flight path that is curved when plotted on an FE map?

And Perspective, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about with the Citation X. I didn't either, but all it takes is a little research. The Cessna Citation X is the fastest civilian aircraft currently in operation, with a max speed of 0.92 Mach and a ceiling of 51,000 feet. I would assume it takes at least as much training to fly as a commercial airliner.

You know what assuming does....

HAHAHA!

LOL okay, so the stupid site decided to change it's picture, I swear it was a pic of a Citation X cockpit when I posted it.   I guess the mole people changed it on me.  hehe

I beg to differ.

It is not free will that is an illusion, but time that is an illusion.  It creates the illusion that free will is an illusion.   :D

Cockpit of a Cessna Citation X:

Cockpit of a Boeing MD-80:

Requirements for Cessna pilot license: 15 years of age and maybe 35 hours of flight time

Requirements for MD-80 pilot license: 300+ hours of simulator flight time, one year of flight school, 4 years of prior aircraft operating experience.

That's as far as I'll go because to anyone other then you, my friend, it's quite evident that it takes a bit more skill to operate an airliner.

I didn't say "I don't know why".  CAN YOU READ??  ???

Do you know what an analogy is?

That's     a-n-a-l-o-g-y.  Let's say it together.... aaaaah -naaaaal-uh-geeeeeeee.   Good job!

I said that I don't give a shit about explaining the inferiority of a Cessna air craft compared to an airliner to someone who has the comparative intellect of a monkey when it comes to understanding algebra.  If you don't already know the immense difference between the two, then you're not a fucking pilot anyway.  Hence, I'll be on my way now without looking back.

Okay, since you FE's tend to be completely and utterly incapable of comprehending the substance of any argument and would rather point out random semantical error, let me make it simpler for you:

Look at a CD.

Draw a line from one point to another.

THAT IS THE SHORTEST DISTANCE BETWEEN THOSE POINTS.

Now, look at a tennis ball.

THE SHORTEST DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO POINTS WILL BE CURVED.

What do you mean, "horizontal" means nothing?

Look, my use of the term "horizontal" was merely for analogical purposes.  Vertical, Horizontal, Diagonal.....use whatever you directional vector you want.....that had absolutely nothing to do whatsoever with the point of my thread.

Your trivial observations of a supposed flaw in my thread based on the relativity of 'horizontal' barely scratch the surface of any meaningful, intelligent, depth-filled understanding of what I'm talking about.

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: Flight Paths are Curved

Perhaps you fly a silly little plane like a Cessna (in which case you only need to be 15 to get a license for......that proves nothing of your capabilities).  Not to mention those planes are not allowed to fly above a certain altitude.

My father, on the other hand, flies Boeing-747's,777s and MD-80's (which travel at about 45,000 ft) for a popular airline.  When he was in the military, he flew T-38's and T-37's (which are authorized to fly well above 50,000ft  - High enough to see the fucking curvature of the earth)

If you were a pilot for a living and not for a hobby, i seriously doubt you would have the time to be moderating a website such as this.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING INTELLIGENT TO OFFER TO THIS THREAD???

I'm beginning to think you FLAT EARTHERS have nothing to say about this.  This is probably due to the fact that none of you lame brains have ever even traveled in an airplane.

Being labeled as having a disorder is nothing to be proud of. I'd rather be a raging alcoholic than suffer from delusions that the earth is flat.

This "true believer syndrome" is not in the DSM; but I would actually consider these people as paranoid and delusional.  These terms are on axis II in the DSM but are indicative of a true personality disorder on axis I (paranoid schizophrenia).

Why, you may ask??

Why are they not square or cylinder or pyramidal or FLAT?

Because matter is lazy.  It takes the easiest shape possible. This is the same reason the earth is round.  Simple.   :D

I absolutely love the fact that no one dares to engage in this conversation other than you (I must say, I commend you on your confidence).

Are there any flat earther's that can dispute my contention???

Please, it would really make my day to see the looks on your faces when you realize how utterly wrong and backwards your thinking is.
