After some brief talks with Mad Mike, I am excited to announce he'll be joining our Society as our next member.

We'll also likely be collaborating in promoting some of his works.  None of this will be official until I send off his package, but I thought it might be of interest.

Excellent.  Good luck with the hopefully future collaborations.

Although Im curious about what level of madness qualifies someone to call themselves Mad Mike in the flat earth community?

Does it mean even further from what most people consider sane?  Or is he closer to regular norms, which flat earthers consider mad?

I guess well find out soon enough.

Who is Mad Mike?

Maybe this Mad Mike:

""Mad" Mike Hughes is an American limo driver, daredevil, and flat Earth conspiracy theorist known for flying in self-built rockets."

Who is Mad Mike?
A dude who couldn't get funding for his rocket stunts until he said it was for photographing a flat earth and bingo!

Quote
In 2016 Hughes launched a failed fundraising attempt for a rocket that earned $310.[2][7] After professing his belief in a flat Earth later that year, Hughes gained support within the flat-Earth community. His post-flat-Earth fundraising campaign made its $7,875 goal.

Though so far he's only got 500m into the air, whereas amateurs are already getting balloons up to 35km - which seems a much more practical way of taking photos of the planet.

He seems like a laugh!

Not high enough?
Because hes using steam.
He would get busted by fbi if he were using exploves.

Another victory for FE!

And how fitting, the use of steam. As FE has this nice Victorian feel to it, in my opinion.

EDIT: In 1861, Rowbotham married for a second time (to the 16-year-old daughter of his laundress) and settled in London, producing 14 children, of whom four survived.

That is very Dickensian.

We get to look forward to the fake flat Earther that needed funding for his elaborate attempt at self-harm with a grown up version of a water rocket joining the ranks, eh?  He lives not too far from me; I recall the BLM not being too happy with his publicity stunt.

I see Mr. Davis only enlists the finest as cadre here.

He has done quite a bit to spread the word of the flat earth. This is why his membership was accepted and offered.

Also, I have to admit, its nice to have our own Super Dave Osborn.

So, which ones of those are actually active?   Or it's really just a bunch of random names (which may or may not be real) on a list.

While the number of members is not that high, the Society makes up for it with the quality of said people. Top gun, best of the best.

Many of those are active in one way or another. Many are amongst those you talk to daily here.

Like I mentioned, there are more due to the postcard drive that are not listed. I had plans for reopening the membership in a more open way, but its on the backburner for now as it provides little real value.

There's only about 20 people post regulary here, and 15 of them are round earthers.   I've never seen UNLISTED post here - though I'm sure he's a great guy.

In what other ways can they be active in the club?

It is against our rules to review the real life identities of our members. I will say myself and scg are on that list, if memory recalls.

You are correct though, due to its age many of these members are no longer active on the forums. It is presumed they continue to lead their flat earth lives outside of our little home here.

I'm pretty sure I can count on one hand the number of current members on these forums that have argued in favor of FE.   Maybe two hands if I include the trolls.  Granted, I've only been hanging around for two months or so, but that doesn't make the situation better.

I'm pretty excited.  I like people who do stupid shit like build steam powered rockets.

I don't reckon he'll stay here long though, once he realises we are mainly roundies and probably won't be able to tap us up for funding his next stunt.

I'm stoked for Mad Mike to hopefully come and play in the forums, maybe do an AMA or the like. I've watched a few interviews of his and he seems like he's a regular guy/thrill seeker, likes to build difficult contraptions and actually sail a loft in them. He's like the FE version of Felix Bumgartner(sp) or remember that other guy who jumped out of a plane without deploying his parachute to land in a net a year or so ago? Why do they do these things? Because someone ultimately has to otherwise this carnival known as humanity would be too tragic and too boring.

It would simply take 5 minutes for him to sign up and make a post here. He hasn't. I guess his care factor for the Flat Earth Society is ZERO. Even rab gives more a damn.

John Davis should get over his man crush and clean the cream of his undies over this Mad Mike.

I agree. Society 'Membership' neither has it's privileges nor really means anything unless you're a participant. If JD announced that Mad Mike was going to do an AMA-ish type of thing here, that would be cool. But announcing that he may sign up as a 'member', I don't know what that means or what the point is.

No but the forums demonstrate interest in the subject matter. This forum is 'it' as far as the Flat Earth Society goes. (That "other" forum is just a bunch of jerks larping).

If you are a member of a society does it not make sense that you would communicate with others in that society? If you dont even get yourself known or establish yourself with other people, the membership is merely tokenism. It's like being a member of a gym but never turning up
