Title: I think I saw the ISS yesterday
Post by: coffeecrisp on June 14, 2017, 12:48:08 PM
I live in Montreal.
It was about 11 PM, Tuesday, 13 June, 2017. I often watch the stars and this was bizarre. It looked like 2 stars were heading toward each other. Then I realized, only one of them was moving and VERY fast. It did a 30° in the sky with respect to my position, in 1 minute. It was heading North-Est. I was wondering if it is a meteorite. It kept going and didn’t look like it was coming down.

Very neat. I am not sure if it was the ISS however.
I have seen meteorites fall before and they are much slower. This thing was super fast.

Yes, to point out how this is obviously a conspiracy trick.

There are dozens of satellites visible most nights if they sky is clear and there's not much light pollution. The websites linked above are good resources. The ISS is usually by far the brightest, due to it's size and orbital distance (about 400km above the earths surface). Many satellites are much smaller, and much further away, and appear only as very feint moving pinpoints. With a telescope it's possible to see the shape of the ISS but requires a lot of magnification and it also is therefore very hard to track due to it's speed. Iridium flares can be exceptionally bright and are a result of the panels directly reflecting the sun.

I believe he was asking for Flat Earthers. It need not concern you so don't worry as you are not a Flat Earther.

The OP probably just saw a firefly or was tripping on some drugs or his retinas are detaching leading him to see flashes of light. In which case a trip to the optometrist is well advised :)

Don't undersell it. If you're directly in the path it's like an ark welder in the sky.

The high point of a 'flare' only lasts a few seconds.

Think of me as a reporter. I am just sharing my info. It was exciting for me since I had never seen it before and it was by accident.

I wish I had equipment like this guy
RALF VANDEBERG, L’ASTRONOME AMATEUR QUI TRAQUE L’ISS
http://blogs.futura-sciences.com/feldmann/2015/04/10/ralf-vandeberg-lastronome-amateur-qui-traque-liss/

It was suppose to do another pass buy on the June 14, but it was between 8:55 to 9:00 PM (local time) and the sky was too blue.

I was replying to Googlobotomy wondering where the flat earthers are. We don't deny there's stuff flying around up there.

Yes and I also approve of gay marriages, giving women equal rights, I'm against slavery, I'm against attacking other countries and chopping up everything to pieces including babies (Isaiah 13:15). I don't believe there was any first man and woman, any giant boat and giant flood. When I tell christians I am an atheist, they tell me I worship satan secretly and I am trying to fool them.

Let's be honest. This flat earth thing is based on the jewish faith and derivative religions.

Yes you can see the ISS sometimes and when you happen to be in the countryside far away from the city's sound pollution, you can hear someone practicing on his guitar in the ISS at times too......
Must be another upcoming intercallactic performance i guess...... 8) 8) 8) 8)

What a dumb, out of context and pointless reply. What the hell does religion (and why do we care about your stance on the subject) have to do with the ISS or not?

Have your personally verified what the OP saw? Were you there and did you fly up and see with your own eyes? This OP has expressed what could be clear signs of retinal detachment. I gave sound advice to get his eyes checked by a specialist. You spouted some anti Semitic religious crap. Relevance????

Just wanted to see how quickly a flat earther would jump in and say space travel does not exist, there is no such thing as the ISS, or it's a blah-blah-blah something else........LOL

I am the OP. My vision is fine.
I didn't say anything anti-semitic. I talked about what is written in the bible and how I am against it.
The relevance is that there is a connection between religion and this flat earth thing. It is a science vs religion thing. So once in a while, I mention it just like flat earthers mention freemasons, illuminati, the serpent tongue and NASA's logo. I don't see any reason not to mention it.

Who told you your vision was fine? You? Are you an optometrist?

If you are going to make grand standing determinations like that, then why should we believe anything you say on any subject in your life ever at all!!!!!  :)
