Title: Who are the most interesting types of round earthers?
Post by: UpstartPixel on October 05, 2016, 10:27:36 AM
It always starts with "Do you guys really believe this stuff"? How many threads like that are there on these forums? That's innocuous enough, but then they can't take the answer. "What?" "Your kidding!"

At this point many folks fall by the wayside, content to just lurk or look elsewhere for their fix.
But the true anti-believer goes a step further, because an innate need has awakened, a compulsion to convert the heathen, to educate the savages, to eradicate the heretics!. And so the symptom of Compulsive Round Earth Syndrome (CoRES) present themselves. These are twofold:
1. An increasingly and obsessive aggressive attitude towards anyone espousing the FE view. Any such most must immediately be refuted.
2. An insistence on the round earth, whether or not based on science. The latter case is especially funny because it tends to be of the "but EVERYBODY knows..." type.

Any other notable symptoms?

These aren't the most interesting REers, imo. I like the ones who come to love the forum, even though they'll never be FE. The ones who can separate the upper forums from the lower ones, and have interesting discussions about all sorts of things.

Well perhaps. But you can find such folks in many places, starting with your neighborhood coffee shop. This place attracts a certain genre of obsessives imho. A round earther who stays here has an agenda, and needs to push it, and won't give up until he/she has convinced someone - anyone! - that the earth is flat.

What's my agenda, just out of curiousity?

I think agenda might be too strong a word. Some people just like fighting.

It's kind of ridiculous, anyway. We all have an "agenda" for being here.  Most who stay are having fun posting here, and have made friends. No matter if you're RE or FE you learn stuff. There are lots of misconceptions we all have (ex. Coriolis Effect on drains) that are explained.  You get to interact with interesting people from across the plane! Of all the forums I have belonged to over the years, this one has the most to offer.

So, fighting is their agenda, then, am I right?

The irresistible draw upon angry globularists frequently surprises me, UP. The CoRES afflicted seem to be unable to help themselves- compulsive,  indeed.
What kind of person goes to a political, religious, scientific or social website with the sole intent of bad mouthing that particular "-ism"?  Their zeal is frightening,  to be honest.
I don't believe we are being contacted by telepathic alien civilizations, but you'd never find me seeking out the "Pleadian Council Website" to argue with thrm or demean them. And I'd certainly hope their convictions wouldn't lead me into a delirious rage.
Do you think "fliggs" will convert and advance CoRES as a mental disorder? He seems quick to label things.

It really used to surprise me when I first came here, the venom from RE supporter. To me it seems the long term RE supporters on here do have an agenda. Maybe of the type Legba was talking about.

I worry for some posters' blood pressure.  So many unhappy people!

Generally, people with different beliefs should be able to live side by side without conflict. But there are always those who are not tolerant of other beliefs; "everyone else must think the same way that I do". Other people just really love debating, or trying to correct people. Maybe they're used to people accepting that or just saying yes and moving on, but they are met with certain quite resistant people here. I'm not surprised that some of those "correctors" get angry after a while.

Personally I just like having a good discussion. It does kind of hurt me to see people shove me to the side as just another "paid shill", but I don't think there's anything I could do or say to change their minds.

Edit: I noticed that there is also the occasional flatty (or troll) who will jump you for whatever reason.

Don't worry about people who call you a shill, RocksEverywhere. I don't know who started that shit, but no one really thinks anyone is getting paid to post here. Just some troll figured out they could get a reaction that way, and others copied them. Of all the people who come here claiming to be be some type of scientist, you're one of the very few I believe. Another thing to keep in mind, if someone shows up here claiming to be FE but all they do is attack REers, they're probably not FE at all. They think they've found a loophole for trolling this forum.
