Sandler's movie movies have been awful, I am not quite sure why he keeps getting money to star in them.
I admit, the Wedding Singer was okay, mostly for the nostalgia of the 80s music. Not Sandler.
His golf movie had one good line, the price is wrong bitch.
Big Daddy was okay as well, once again for the cast around him.
The rest of his work has been terrible, and even (forgive me hoppy) god-awful.
The one he did with Aniston goes down as one of the worst movies ever.
Its too bad, his stuff on SNL was pretty good.

I think that Happy Gilmore was somewhat less terrible than Billy Madison, but with movies that bad, that really isn't saying much.

"Happy Gilmore" had a lot of really solid gags. The plot was ridiculous of course, but that was kind of the point. The Bob Barker fistfight and Happy's "Happy Place" were definitely high points in lowbrow humour. It did kind of pave the way for an Adam Sandler formula that got diminishing returns with each movie after it. I don't even remember "Billy Madison".
"Punch Drunk Love", on the other hand, has to be the best thing he's ever done, including "Spanglish". Adam Sandler and Emily Watson's pillow talk alone was worth the price of admission. Neither were typical Adam Sandler vehicles, which is probably why they were actually decent movies.
After seeing "Funny People" I think I get where Adam Sandler is coming from, and I like that he could be in a movie where you can see he's aware of how shitty some of his movies got, but fuck it, it's a living. Although that movie itself got pretty terrible about half to two-thirds of the way in.

both win the award for provoking the most "whaaaaat you've never seen that before wow your childhood must have sucked" comments.

Tough call!
Billy Madison had more Chris Farley but also annoying kids.
Why do you have to choose?? I can't.
I love them both.
