Title: Ok, we're back up..
Post by: Daniel on September 04, 2009, 11:06:01 AM
Hopefully a certain someone has lost interest in bothering us.

The conversion is still being difficult but I'm definitely trying to move it forward.  Apparently the database is a bit messy because of 1) a previous conversion from phpbb2 -> SMF and 2) the sheer size of it.  I'm doing everything I can, though.  And Username is on the case as well.  Fingers crossed.

I came back from my road trip expecting to see something new, and lo I still see the same old shit!  It warms the heart of my inner conservative!

This looks like as good a place as any to ask when we will be able to moderate the site again...

So, it says that you guys are "Planar Temp Moderators," so my question is what exactly does that entail if you can't delete posts or ban users?

Daniel, would it be easier to just lock the SMF forums and start anew with phpBB?  There is probably a way to convert only the user accounts, which would make the whole thing much more manageable.

It probably would, but we'd have to start totally from scratch.

Yes, I'm not willing to lose 4 years of messages.  I'd rather stick with SMF (maybe upgrade to SMF2) and keep our messages than move to phpBB3 and lose them.

They don't have to be "lost".  Just lock these forums and put them something like flathearthsociety.org/archives.  They could easily be referenced.  It can be a little awkward at first, but I've known plenty of communities that have done that and it worked fine.

But obviously its your choice.

Actually, that's not a bad idea.

Thank God!You know, with all this talk about czars of this that and a third in the government one might be a tad concerned about this "science czar" appointment by O. and his constant talk about the topic of "true[sic] science". How much will the REers who are calling the shots use this to their advatage to try to silence Creationists and Flat Earthers? I hope this is an unfounded concern.
