Title: another shot
Post by: lindelof on August 09, 2008, 05:18:22 PM
Well, I tried to post this before but as I wrote it up somewhat badly no one really answered my question.  So I'll try again.

Everyone here should agree on this:

(1) There is a certain amount of evidence that indicates that the Earth is flat (the stuff in Tom's sig.).
(2) There is a certain amount of evidence that indicates that the Earth is round (pictures from spaces, surveys, gravimetry, behavior of stars in the Southern Hemisphere, flight times...)

Now, there are seem to be two main views espoused on this site,

(FE) The evidence that indicates a Flat Earth is, on the whole, correct.  The evidence that points towards a Round Earth is the result of error, fraudulence or misinterpretation.
(RE) The evidence that indicates a Round Earth is, on the whole, correct.  The evidence that points towards a Flat Earth is the result of error, fraudulence or misinterpretation.

Given the above, my question to the Fe's out there is:

Starting from an agnostic stance, why should we reject the evidence that points to RE and accept the evidence that points to FE?

By "agnostic stance" I mean not assuming FE.

Except for a street light, it's dark.  What does that have to do with the shape of the earth?  ???

Did you look at the earth like Roundy instructed you to?

I did and I saw an ocean that seemed to drop away from me and then I looked another direction and I saw mountains that went up so I guess I need to conclude that the earth is always gaining altitude... wait maybe I did it backwards and the earth is actually losing altitude

Yes.  While the flat appearance does not contradict RE, I do suppose that it suggests that the Earth is flat, falling under

(1) There is a certain amount of evidence that indicates that the Earth is flat (the stuff in Tom's sig.).

However, no one has answered my question.

There is no evidence for a flat earth.

No, but he wasn't asking for proof, he was asking for something that tips the favor to FE.

My own senses tell me that the earth is flat.

Many people are on this site as they enjoy the debate, and are simply playing 'Devil's Advocate'. However, there are also a number of people on this site, myself included, who genuinely believe the earth is flat. This site is not a joke; nor is FET.

You cannot deny this forum has evolved into something of a joke...

Their is nothing productive going on this site...

It is just mindless debate that will results into nothing at the end of the day. no-one is changing peoples opinions..

Tell me, what has this site done for the flat earth theory? Absolutely nothing. Nothing prolific goes on here, it's the same old shit..  a joke site.

It has changed my opinion. And just the other day, Robosteve proposed a new theory on the Electromagnetic Accelerator, which may acount for irregularities in the current model.

Let's begin a debate on whether anyone here really believes in FE!  :D

Just like most threads started by RE'ers, more tha one identical thread has been opened in the last week.
