Title: Just because you can't see the curvature doesn't mean it's not there
Post by: mightyfletch on June 19, 2007, 10:56:46 AM
The Earth curves at 8in per mile.  Even in a place like the salt flats, you'll never be able to discern that small of a curvature even on a 4000 mile radius sphere.   So you can't use that observation to say that the Earth is flat.

You'll find this explained, and in agreement with you, in Experiment 1 of the RE Primer.

Everyone except Tom acknowledges this. Good one for pointing it out and reminding him though.

I've waited two days on this and no FEer has posted to rebuke it.

Because all that's there is ENaG, and really nothing more.

The only person who will try is Tom. I believe a quote of his is

"The Earth is flat. Look out your window."

"The Earth is flat. Look out your window."

And then the replies of:

"When I look out my window, I see exactly what I should on a RE."

Earth not a Global, by Parallax. Have you had a chance to read the RE Primer? If not, you should do that next.

Not yet it isn't. Well actually, it is, but I mean it isn't complete.

Fair enough, but do feel free to contribute any of the missing parts yourself.

While I'm not qualified to write new sections, I'll endeavour to find new material, and if you like, edit it for the purposes of reading it easily.

Thanks, of course. I appreciate your help.

True, it doesn't mean it CAN'T be there, it just means that as far as we know from observing it with our eyes alone, it's not.
