Title: Atronauts
Post by: Curiosity on March 25, 2007, 11:51:28 AM
My cousin is an astonaut.  He went into space.  He saw the earth from space.  It was round.

Is he being bribed?  If so, where was he that whole time?

If the government is trying to keep people from knowing to truth, then why haven't they done anything to combat the Flat Earth Society?  It would seem like they would, because there are 300,000 members in this society.  Has anyone ever been approached by the government?

you can never trust your cousin again. _ or they'll come for you, just as they did me.

Somehow I doubt you cousin is an astronaut.

So what if you doubt his cousin is an astronaut? how does that matter?  astronauts in general claim that they see a round earth so justify how you believe the earth is flat when people who have actually been up in space claim they see it as round.  And explain it logically, without suggesting stupid pathetic nonsense like 'they never really went into space.'  They did.  And if they didn't, there's still an obscene amount of observations and scientific truths that refute the possibility that the earth is flat.  Whenever someone proposes a mathematical equation that refutes the possibility of a flat earth (and i've read several), no FE believer responds (as probably no one will to this one).  Until someone comes up with a feasible enough method of proving the earth is flat, I cannot honestly consider any FE believer to be above a 5th grade intelligence level.  Thanks guys.

Yeah, but she can't prove he's an astronaut. Besides, I at least, was joking. It won't make a difference whether she's telling the truth or not, FE'ers will dismiss it.

lol of course they'll dismiss it..it makes sense.  The important thing is that this cousin is not an astronaut, therefore the earth is flat.  LOL nice logic kids

I've been to space too. The Engineer tried to claim I haven't because I swear ??? ::)

There are actually quite a few NASA folks that have been to this website and really get a kick out of it. It definitely has made the rounds on people's email list.

1:Your cousin is an astronaut who said the world is round. Great first hand evidence from nameless astronaut.
2:After your bs argument that has no validity, you practically admit he isn't an astronaut. So why the post? This hasn't been covered enough? Or do you feel that lying provides more credibility to your argument?
3:You come here demanding proof of FE... Well aside from the fact that the proof is already presented (http://theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php?topic=11883.0 (http://theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php?topic=11883.0)), the burden of proof is on you, my jolly lying cousin of an astronaut.

I've been to space too. The Engineer tried to claim I haven't because I swear ??? ::)
So is it my turn to say I've been to space too? Another great argument... perhaps you should believe the world is flat because I've seen the ice wall. Granted, I have no proof of this other than my word.

Yes he was bribed and he ws probable telling the peolpe that make the images of earth what he wants to be seen This inculdes stuuf like cloud shapes islands and ice

Damn! You found me out. I am living high off the hog though. If I don't feel I'm being treated fairly, I know exactly what to say and who to say it to at NASA.  ;D

The FAQ is WRONG! They don't fake anything for us, they just pay us a lot to lie. You know that Lisa Nowak and Capt. Shipman  weren't fighting over Oefelein at all, that was just a cover story. NASA FE security came up with it in order not to expose the real reason for the fight. It was all about the RE cover story. :) :) :)

I said because he didn't know relativity, which is a required course for astronauts.

And he swears.

Let us analyze this masterpiece just to see the intelligence of the people who believe in a flat earth. This is the first time I have ever seen the word "stuff" spelled as "stuuf." I am quite certain that intelligent monkeys can spell better.

I think the prevailing claim is this:
if the government approached and threatened a member of the society, that person would tell the general public. The government wouldn't want the public to find out something like that, so they do nothing.

Though I doubt the government would have to worry about the public believing a member of the flat earth society when he or she announced that they were threatened by the government. Western society in general, I think, assume anyone in the society is crazy and untrustworthy.
Basically, you don't need to silence someone if no one would listen to them anyway.

I think I have shown I know relativity just fine thank you.
Hell, I'm agreeing with you on these threads about gravity and acceleration. Tell me if my explanation on this one is incorrect - http://theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php?topic=3152.msg165400#msg165400

That post is quite right.  I simply stated that at the time you made the claim, you did not know how acceleration in relativity worked.  I can see in the progression of our conversations, you have picked up the basics of acceleration quite nicely.  I am impressed, as most people just give up, and don't bother to actually research the position presented, in contrast to yourself.

To be honest, there is a lot of stuff that if I don't use on a daily basis, I just plain forget about. 99% of the calculations I have to use are Newtonian. The main thing I was doing when I made my initial statement was using the wrong FOR. I was trying to point out that the earth wouldn't continue accelerating at 1g, because it would get more massive, etc. but of course that would have to have been from an outside observer, which, as I pointed out in the post I linked to, makes no sense if, as the FEers claim, everything is moving with us. That was the mistake, mainly because I really didn't understand your POV initially until you explained it again. So, it was a combination having to re-think everything from a different perspective along with just regular old-age brain-farts.

BTW, I don't know why people get so mad at you. You seem to be genuinely helpful in pointing out where people make mistakes.

I am curious why you think relativity is a required course? Many of today's astronauts come from very diverse fields. What you say may have been true in the days of Apollo, but nowadays, the most you need is a Bachelor's and most have some post-grad training, but physics isn't always part of it. NASA actually wants people with interdisciplinary training.
Do a search for Space Grant Consortium.
