Title: World Cup 2018
Post by: Ichimaru Gin :] on June 03, 2018, 08:57:40 AM
It's that time again, when the whole flat plane is united in football! Who are you rooting for? Who do you predict will make it far?!!

I myself will be cheering for Senegal who begin their World Cup campaign against Poland.

The last real world cup final was in 1986. Since then, we've had politics and special interests get in the way of soccer. 1990 - the penalty kick that wasn't, 1994 - a draw in regular time + OT during 40C weather, 1998 - France had to win at all costs, and so on. During the last tournament in Brazil, Brazil sold out the game with Germany, that is why Neymar feigned an injury with Colombia so that he would not be blamed for the loss. In the final, Argentina's best player, Angel Di Maria also had to feign injury, so that Germany could win more easily.

Brasil, Ginga, Seleção

Brazil's performance on the soccer field for the past 30 years has been a shadow of its former glory.

According to Zico, this slip is down to players losing their love for the sport by going to play in other countries.

“The majority of the players in the Seleção leave Brazilian soccer quickly and so lose the true identity of our game. They go to play in other countries with different cultures and they lose the happiness and passion of playing in the Brazilian way,” he said.

Let us remember that Pele received a remuneration of $500 per game early in his career; in order to understand the effects of being paid millions of dollars/euros per season for these soccer superstars and its consequences on their lives, please read The Seven Laws of Money (a classic work): http://seeingmoney.org/SevenLaws.htm

For those who think that Ronaldo, or Ronaldinho, or Rivaldo, or Messi are some of the top players of all time, they have simply never seen Tostao, Rivellino, Zico, Garrincha or Di Stefano in action.

The first soccer great to score 1000 goals was not Pele but Ferenc Puskas.

Those who are of the opinion that Roberto Carlos was the best Brazilian long distance shooter obviously have never seen Eder in action.

Why did Brazil win the World Cup in 1970? That's right, because they had Tostao on the field.

A terrible accident which occurred in 1969 prevented Tostao from playing after 1972, a huge loss for Brazil, as his presence on the field would have made the difference in the semifinal match against Holland in 1974.

Was Rivellino as good as Maradona? You be the judge.

Zico, the most talented Brazilian player of the last 40 years

Eder (the average speed of his long range kicks was 130-140 km/hr, it is recorded that once it even reached 170 km/hr)

Brasil 1982, pure ginga

Brasil never lost with Pele and Garrincha on the field at the same time. Why?

Alfredo Di Stefano

Ferenc Puskas, best tribute

http://ajitvadakayil.blogspot.ro/2011/10/puskas-soccer-legend-capt-ajit.html

George Best had this to say:  I was with (Bobby) Charlton, (Denis) Law and Puskás, we were coaching in a football academy in Australia. The youngsters we were coaching did not respect him including making fun of his weight and age...We decided to let the guys challenge a coach to hit the crossbar 10 times in a row, obviously they picked the old fat one. Law asked the kids how many they thought the old fat coach would get out of ten.  Most said less than five.  George Best said ten.  The old fat coach stepped up and hit nine in a row.  For the tenth shot he scooped the ball in the air, bounced it off both shoulders and his head, then flicked it over with his heel and cannoned the ball off the crossbar on the volley.  They all stood in awed silence then one kid asked who he was, I replied, "To you, his name is Mr. Puskás".

George Best, perhaps the finest European player ever (better than Cruyff or Hagi), who did have the ginga

Pele believed that George Best was the greatest ever to have graced a football pitch.

Lol I like how that post is the exact same format as Sandokhan's other posts (incredibly long, somewhat formal, with references, quotes, and probably copy pasta), only it's about football.

Without a reference to the Sagnac effect it just doesn't feel right.

It probably ties into the rotation of the ball somehow...

Yeah love to see an African team at least get to the finals. I think it would be amazing for the continent. Senegal, Cameroon (If they are still in it). These two are my picks.

Leave it to sandokhan to be a looney toon about football.

I enjoyed columbia’s return 4 years ago. I will cheer for them. Also some random news said Saudi Arabia would advance out of the groups stage. I did a report on that country in 6th grade so I will also root for them. But fuck religion though.

Puskas scored 1000 goals?

When?
Title: Re: World Cup 2018

358 goals scored from 349 Hungarian domestic appearances
324 goals scored from 372 Spanish domestic appearances
84 goals scored from 85 Hungarian international matches
This totals to 766 goals (from 806 matches) not counting cups and friendly tours with various all-star teams. Hence the estimation of 1000 career goals and considering that this incorporates two years of almost total "silence"

pele scored 589 goals in 605 games in competitve matches. Puskas scored 617 goals in 622 matches. At international level pele struck 77 times in 92 matches puskas scored 84 in 85 matches ! He is also to this day the only player to have scored 4 goals in a european cup/champions league final.

https://ajitvadakayil.blogspot.com/2011/10/puskas-soccer-legend-capt-ajit.html

Puskas had what no other player ever possessed: an amazing ability to shoot like cannon from a distance. That is how he scored his goals.

"Starting from the tender age of 18, he scored 84 goals in 85 international matches, till he retired at the age of 39 in 1966. His career tally stands at 1176 goals .":

Oh, it is totally not pasta (https://forum.tfes.org/index.php?topic=5072.msg98181#msg98181) from at least two years ago...

Really nogs the joggin.

He baited me into thinking he would have carried on a normal discussion about a topic.  I should have known better.

The soccer of Brasil = ginga. Without ginga, they will always play like an European team, focused on defense.

The Brasilian team with the most ginga was the 1982 world-cup line-up. They couldn't care less if they won or they lost, only ginga, the magic rhythm, mattered most. Even Italy with its best defensive line-up ever (Baresi, Bergomi, Cabrini, Gentile, Scirea) could not stop the Brasilian ginga; Brasil lost because they payed little attention to the defense.

Ronaldo and Rivaldo, Romario brought some of that ginga to the 1994, 1998, 2002 world cups, but it wasn't nearly enough.

Brasil needs another Tostao, who brought ginga + vision to their game, that is why they were above every other team in 1970 (including Italy, who, strangely, did not include Gianni Rivera, their best player, in the line-up for the final with Brasil).

The most skilled player with ginga, J.J. Okocha, in the last 25 years:

I think his antics hurt him. If he had a questionable foul then the ref seemed to wave play on if in doubt. The boy who cried wolf.

And rolled.

And rolled.

And rolled.

I don't like to predict who will win because it reminds me of my past when I bet on sports. This is not a very good source of income, there are many other methods of earning money from sports.
