Just an FYI for the powers that be, as I'm sure it must be happening to others too. I'm getting this message pretty regularly over the past several days when I try to view my unread replies.
An Error Has Occurred!
The server is currently under high stress. Please try again shortly.

Happening to me too, don't think it's actaually high stress as everything else is working fine. :/

Me too.
I like to review the posts of pissed off n00bs with 5 or 6 posts, for a laugh. ;)

Me too!

I am not sure, but John Davis does this sometimes when we get attacked in order to limit the damage, I think.

Yes, this is likely due to the rate limiter I installed to help when we get slammed by requests. Without it, all the russian and chinesse bots that slam our site would bring performance to a crawl. I'll look into adjusting the values if they are bad.
Its likely due to you making a lot of requests at one time, like if you were to open twenty tabs at once.
-
Actually this is due to smf's rate limiter, not mine. I'll look into changing that instead.

How do you folks get around the southern constellations?
-
Better than you get around the forums, apparently ;) This is tech support, for technical issues with the forum. You are probably looking for Q&A or Debate.

Have you thought about capcha John? Maybe even just to sign up initially you need to prove you are human?

I know you mentioned it's smf's rate limiter after this post. I'm quoting this one to address the multiple tabs thing. I've mostly been posting from my phone, on wifi, with one chrome tab open from an Android device. And it seems like I get a few clicks on the unread replies link a day, then just the error message.
Not sure if that helps diagnose the issue, but it's one more data point.

Similar. It worked before so what's changed?

289 people perusing the forms at the most so far today. That shouldn't really be considered a heavy load, should it? I'm trying to remember if I got the error message on June 17th, when there were 3720 people on simultaneously. I believe don't think it was an issue then. ???

last time I was working on logins and dealing with this sort of crap, I added a no-captcha captcha.

The issue is that new replies / topics is particularly intensive to the server (as far as the smf developers believe) and so they added a rate limiter in it that is based off server load.
I've reenabled my limiter to see if it helps. I have no idea if I borked it up, or if its still working; let me know if this problem persists and I'll find another temporary solution as I work towards the permanent one.
