Be safe if you are in his path. SCG, you know you always have a place to go if you need to bug out.
-
Everyone, please be alright. I am here if you need something to converse with.
-
Thanks jroa! I live on the gulf side, and they are issuing warnings/watches for counties on this side, but I don't expect it'll be bad here. I imagine the power will go out at least once, it doesn't even have to be a bad storm for a tree to knock out the power around here >:(
I think people in the Carolinas are expecting it to be pretty terrible there. They are evacuating already. BE SAFE EVERYONE, HEAD FOR JROA'S!
-
Wait, I live in the Carolinas! :o
-
I thought you lived in Georgia!
-
I did! I have lived in NC for about 2 years now.
-
I am far enough inland that I don't have to worry, though. :D
-

I used to have lots of family all over Georgia, NC, and SC. I think most of them have died or moved back to Florida :P
The news showed lots of people evacuating the coast, are you inland?
-
I will be seeing Matthew close up tomorrow as I am currently writing from the hurricane warning zone.
Thanks for the well wishes and good luck to the other in his path!
-
I hope you have your hurricane supplies... or are you like most of us and just get a loaf of bread and hope for the best? lol
-
Didn't prepare for this one much I'm afraid to say. It should have turned more east like it should have. A good supply of water and that loaf of bread sounds about right!

You are more than welcome as well if you need to bug out.

Thank you, kindly! :)

I should be out of the Hurricane Zone, but probably something like 7 or 8 hours from the Georgia/Florida border.
-
Hope you giys are ok, stay safe.
-
Thank you disputeone and jroa it sounds like you will be AOK there from the feeder bands, etc.. If we have to bug out it's just the wife and me. She is much nicer than me so I would try to follow her example.
-

How is your mom doing? ??
-
I've never had to face down a hurricane. It sounds a little unnerving, also awe inspiring. Good luck and stay safe.
-
Be safe, SCG and Gotham!
Not to make light, but I grew up hearing stories about "hurricane parties" from my father. I've always wanted to throw one, but I live inconveniently distant from hurricanes.

If I had an obscene amount of money I think I'd build a hurricane proof house on the coast of Florida. Seeing a hurricane up close must be pretty bad ass.
-
It's just a really windy thunderstorm.
Most of the damages are always from flooding.
-
So glad we don't have hurricanes and tornadoes here, yet.
The sea might eat our country though... but oh well.

They went to my sister's house. She lives pretty far inland. My parents were 100 meters from the beach. I hope their condo will be OK. Thanks for asking.
-
Thanks Ski,
Bringing in the lawn chairs and tables, I mean flying projectiles...

People in southeast Florida are still being begged to hurry up and evacuate. The storm surge is expected to be pretty bad. I don't think I'd ever want to live on the beach.
And look at this shit https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-77.26,25.44,717 there's another hurricane out there! I think they're also saying that Mathew might turn back on Florida.

It almost looks like there's a third one forming closer to Canada. That's a very cool web site. You can kind of see the coriolis effect at work in the Atlantic ocean.

It is my favorite angry globularist website! Look down in the lower left corner where it says "earth" you can change it to look at other things.

I did fill up a five gallon bucket with water, so if the power goes out we can flush the toilets! (I have a private well)

If you pee in the toilet enough times, it will flush.

Neat. If you select AE as the projection it kind of looks like the flat earth map. Those winds around the ice wall look furious.

My sister and her family live in Orange Park and they didn't leave. I really wish they had, but they feel safe right now so I'm hoping they are going to be OK. Be safe everyone. This is a big 'un.
-
boydster, I hope your sister is safe.
-
Thanks jroa, me too! She's worried about the dog peeing on the carpet ::) Batten down the hatches, folks. Matthew is going to get pretty breezy.
-
Is it nice carpet? That's expensive to replace. She gets a pass.
-
She can still evacuate! If I lived on the east coast I'd be headed to jroa's.
-
Alone, I feel like I'd probably bug out at cat 4, but I'm also pretty sympathetic to both the view that I'd rather stay and try to preserve my property and that the media frequently over blows these events. I have kids, so I'd definitely be out on that account. Hopefully everyone stays safe!
-

The carpet's OK, I guess. I mean, I wouldn't wish dog pee on anyone's carpet, so yeah I hope the dog is able to control its bladder and the puppy pads work as intended if it comes to that.

They are staying put. Dog and all. *sigh* I told her Tallahassee seems like a really cool place to visit right now.
-
Just heard about the evacs in the States, stay safe guys, I'd offer to put you up at my place but I'm all the way down in Aus.
No one do anything stupid, anything lost can be found again except for time wasted.
Best wishes and thoughts guys.
-
The best wishes worked for me...and I Thank You all! He turned just enough NE in time to only have a glancing blow without losing power.
Good luck to those up the coast!
-
Yeah, same here. Just a bit gusty out, and only a little rain.
boydster, hope your sister and her dog are okay!
-
So far, so good!
-
One of my dogs is terrified of rain, well really terrified of anything that falls from the sky (such as acorns). He shivered under the bed all night.
-
Bush is steering Matthew with a joystick from a bunker in Texas. He is trying to knock out lib strongholds.
-
So I just got a video message and it doesn't look too bad there right now. Rainy, for sure, but didn't look like any trees were about to be uprooted from the wind or anything.

That's good! Tell your sister the Flat Earth Society is worried about her and the pupperoni. :P
-
Glad everyone emerged safely! Thank goodness more wind was generated by the media than the storm!
-
Looks like I will catch the edge by the time I wake in the morning. I hope my commute is not too bad.

From what I heard so far, it seems like the coast got slammed pretty hard, but further inland the damaging part sloped off quickly
-
It really chewed up St. Augustine, but still nothing compared to Haiti's damage.
