I've spent the last few days browsing the site and find the whole debate of "Round Earth vs Flat Earth" quite interesting. I've seen a lot of evidence from both sides and am looking to learn more about the concept of a flat Earth. I'm honestly not sure what to believe anymore, I've always just thought the Earth was round, but that's all anyone's ever told me. Now that it's been mentioned, I guess the Earth could be flat, and seeing as that's all I've ever been able to see with my own two eyes, it seems fairly plausible and logical.
Anyways, I can't seem to find an answer to explain the phases of the moon? What causes the moon to be full on some nights and only half a moon on others? Any information would be greatly appreciated, I'm still trying to wrap my head around this concept, maybe it's time to take off the sheep's clothing and start believing what I can see rather than just believing what people tell me.

It is simply the moon's day and night cycle. When the sun shines on the moon we see its shadow on part or the whole of the moon.
-
I'd like to know exactly where the moon places itself in relation to the sun on this theory of a cylindrical earth.
-
Also, What exactly is the cycle of the moon? Is the concept of 8 key stages of the moon still applied?

I think you're on the wrong website.

I'm saying this because there's no "theory of a cylindrical earth" here.

I'm saying this because there's no "theory of a cylindrical earth" here.
And I quote from the FAQs section:
"Q: "Exactly what shape is the Earth if it is flat? Square or circle?"
A: Circle, like in the UN logo. However, the earth is NOT 2D; it is in the shape of a cylinder."
So now this is not true?
-
Imagine a pancake. Although it is a cylinder, would you really classify it as that under normal circumstances?

I would not...but this is not normal circumstances. I am simply going off what the FAQs said. so now you are saying the facts are simply circumstantial?

Yes, the Earth is considered cylindrical. ThinkingMan, please don't turn into another TheKnowledge, spouting random gibberish at newcomers.
For more information on the Moon's phases, go here (http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forum/index.php/topic,53409.msg1309156.html#msg1309156).

The only reason I was saying that is that, aside from my first day here reading the FAQ, no one has ever referred to the earth as a cylinder in my presence. It was rather unexpected.
-
Rushy your post there about the moon is full of flaws, which are brought out by the simple mistake of you creating and twisting facts to suit your theory, instead of changing your theory to suit the facts. And alot of things you say in there contradict FE theory
-
That picture spoke 1000 words by itself. The moon does not bob up and down, it would get smaller when it was a full moon. It does not get smaller. Size remains the same.

There is no need as the FAQ is no accurate and FEers have noted and spoken about the discrepancies themselves, and I have participated in many debates.

thank you for clearing that up to thinkingman.
on the other hand this concept of the moon is hard for me to grasp with the only known facts I can find about it lie here on this forum. The idea of it being a "bio-luminescent creature which wants to destroy the planet" is hard for me to believe simply because I see no reason to believe it. and vise versa.

So you are saying that the statements made in the FAQs area are all open to discussion and are able to be changed if one can debate his/her point thoroughly?
-
The FAQ has been updated several times when it felt most needed, yet it has been a while. So perhaps if you had a sudden major shift in some area of thinking it probably isn't going to happen. If you are after the more current ideas you could check the flat earth wiki. Also, this whole discussion about the earth being a cylinder of a 2d flat object is derailing the post.

I didnt mean to de-rail the post...its just that he said something wasnt true when I read on here that something was in fact "truth".

Its not. But some FEB'ers will try to tell you that. Please do not mistake their inane rantings to be FES spokesmanship. The post I made was pointing out why they are wrong.

just for the sake of argument:
What makes what you say hold more weight than anyone else?

He's not talking about moonshrimp.

Nothing does. However, that doesn't mean I can't say what I say and I say I see no shrimp on the Moon.

I guess I don't understand where you came up with that answer. All I'm going off of is what I've read in the FAQs, which says that the Sun and the Moon are spotlights that shine in only one spot at a time. So your saying that the sun also shines directly at the moon causing a shadow on half of it? Then when would we see a full moon? Your reply and the description of the Sun and Moon in the FAQs don't go together at all.
-
Yes it seems much information in the FAQ's is outdated to the current FES belief. Because they also say that the sun and moon are both spheres, well a sphere emitting light does not act as a spotlight unless artificially directed, like using a lampshade. And I dont thing even the FEB's can make a claim that DE holds a lampshade over the sun

I do agree 100% that the FAQs are outdated...or at least members need to go back and re-read the previously stated "truths of flat earth".
With that being said...DE has infinite power...its the mere principle of niggarious'therum haha

I dont know if you had the chance to read the link that was previously posted about the moons location but from what I have read the position of the moon is a concept to say the least. Some say it is close to FE but that would make for no full moons, but some say its far away which means the moon would be visible at any time...that is if in fact the earth is a flat surface. I dont think anyone truly knows the position of the moon mainly because we cant get up there to take pictures due to humans not being able to creature an accelerating force that can maintain the speed to reach that realm. Theres flaws in all this to say the least.

Personally, I don't like dropping this on newcomers as I find it's a bit difficult for them to accept. I believe that the phases of the moon are dictated by cycles of bioluminescent life. In their active state, they glow and are most likely fungus, but others think they could be bacteria or algae. This is not the only flat-earth theory of moon phases, but it's the one that I find most plausible.

Could this be a picture from the moon?

hahahaha. That cant be a picture from the moon, remember you cannot possibly make it to the moon with the technology we have now. according to FES at least.
-
Could this be a picture from the moon?
If you're asking if that could literally be a picture from the moon, then I would caution you to stick to to the lower forums until you figure out the rules here.
If you're asking to clarify what the life looks like, I would have to say most likely not. It probably looks more like a biolumenescent lake you would find on earth.

Having read Earth is not a globe, I think Parallax's explanation was that the moon was a semi-transparent sphere, with one side light (other side dark). As sphere rotates, we get the different phases.
To me, this better explains how we can sometimes see the moon during the day (sun's rays reflecting off it never really made sense to me, as the angles didn't seem to correspond well with the visibly illuminated section of moon).

Can you demonstrate with a photo and a diagram (together) when the angles did not correspond to the visibly lit portion of the lunar surface?
