Dadrock: The movie
All right, I think we all need to stop using the term "dadrock" now. Apparently, everyone here defines it completely differently.
It's actually the latest installment in the long line of lazy hack productions that are usually referred to as "jukebox musicals." Basically, they're hoping that the audience will be so wowed by the shitty Autotuned covers of popular songs that they won't object to the most generic and basic plot of all time with every dumb cliché thrown in, as well as the retarded, campy atmosphere.

I wanna see it.

This. Plus Russell Brand.
Just no.
-
I don't get it- aren't musicals always campy?
-
-
I think it looks like it could be fun.

Did Glee look like it could be fun?! >o<

No, but Glee's music isn't specifically targeted at my generation, and based on what I've seen, it's just a shitty show anyway. Also musicals can be fun. Wasn't Grease fun? Little Shop of Horrors?

The Blues Brothers
YES!

Also, I love how Saddam is such a good critic he can immediately pass judgment on things he's never seen.

I've observed that before.
-
Did Tom Cruise build his body for the role naturally?
-
I have a rebuttal to your haughty and dismissive claims, but I will require access to my laptop first. Please be patient.

Steroids.

lol, I'm surprised you're not a Russell Brand fan. He's pure camp; isn't that your thing?
-
Rock of Ages was a musical before it was a movie, so the writing could be decent.
-
Steroids.
A scientologist using steroids? Don't be so glib.

I'd agree, if this weren't the case.. (http://)

If Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, and Whitesnake are not dadrock, I don't know what are. The reason I think this is probably because my dad listens to all of these.
-
I remember liking Twisted Sister back in the 80's, but I can't help think they were making fun of the direction dadrock was going in at the time.

Then "dadrock" is a pretty useless term for describing music.
-
Yeah, my dad listens to elevator music.
-
Oh yeah, and I was going to write this big long thing about hair metal and why it's silly to use it in the context of a musical, but I don't really need to. It's just that, personally, I can't stand jukebox musicals. It's a lazy way to cash in on the popularity of other people's songs, and the music never properly ties in with the story.
-
Wasn't there a terrible movie just like this about 10 years ago?
Here it is: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0202470/
-
I wanna see it.
-
Rockstar was pretty good though
-
Jukebox musicals are awesome. Their covers are usually better.
-
Dun dun DUN! (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/rock_of_ages_2012/)
-
Those bands are really classified as studio rock.

Blessed with unstoppable energy, an undeniably bawdy sense of fun and Tom Cruise in backless leather pants, it takes songs you may never have loved and turns them into a musical that's easy to enjoy. - Kenneth Turan
Like I said, could be fun.

That guy shouldn't be a critic.

To be fair, some of the songs are pretty shitty. But I don't know how adding Tom Cruise and excessive Autotuning could make them any better.

How not? It's not like T-Pain autotuning. And Tom Cruise is crazy, but he's a good actor and pretty hawt. It can do nothing BUT make them better.
Example: Moulin Rouge is campy and with pretty lights and has Ewan McGregor- the songs are superior to the originals.
