You've been a member for more than two months, have an online time of more than 20 hours, and yet have only one post. You, my friend, know how to lurk moar.

Belief without evidence = faith. If the act of looking out of the window and seeing that the earth looks flat is cited as reason for belief that the earth is in fact flat, it is therefore by definition being cited as evidence that the earth is flat.
There is a difference between claiming to know a thing (like belief in God, for example) because you have faith, unsupported by independently verifiable evidence, and claiming to know a thing (like water boils at 100 degrees Celsius, for example) which can be supported by evidence - in this case experiment and measurement. Whether or not that is good or sufficient evidence is another argument entirely.
I ask, then, is the FAQ exhorting us to take on faith that the earth is flat? Or is it suggesting that the view out of my window (or anybody else's window, or Tom Bishop's beach, wherever is accessible) provides "support" for me believing that proposition? If the latter, it is clearly citing that view as evidence - support for a belief is evidence.
If I were to be unreasonably literal and pedantic, which appears a popular rhetorical device round these parts (I'm trying to fit in ;) ), I have to say that the actual view out of my window supports the Lumpy Earth Theory - it's hilly round here. Just saying.

Ooh, just spotted this - I got a thread all of my own.
Not only that, but managed to cause a small amount of controversy with the one post I made. Excellent. I suppose I'm going to have to post something a bit more substantial at some stage.
I have been enjoying reading these forums, I've come across some ideas which are really quite unusual, but every time I think to myself, "Ooh, this poster really is talking rubbish, I'm going to shoot him or her down in flames with my amazing argument," I lurk a bit moar and find some bugger has already said it. Or maybe I should just go for it and restate an existing position, only try and do it more eloquently.
I'll have another lurk and a think about it.... ;D

OR you could come over to the flat side and come up with arguments for the noobs to try and shoot down.

I wish all new people were as awesome as you. If we had more people like you, we wouldn't have RE'ers bawwing every time we have to say "lurk moar" or "see faq".
-
Welcome new person.
If you need to feel a sense of accomplishment without the actual need of accomplishing anything at all, you should argue in favor of the round earth. You seem fairly stable though so maybe not. :)

Dancing Badger is awesome. I love you, Dancing Badger! May you lead the example for all posters of this site.

This is typical behavior of whores.

I don't want them; Doni wants me to want them. Therefore, Doni's the whore...indirectly...sort of...not really.

No, you ho. Doni's the pimp.

But I never agreed. I just make his sammiches on occasion.

I love this guy. He is someone who might actually out-lurk the Yahoo Spider.
A champion lurker, a veteran. I wonder if he is a FEr yet?
