excuse my innocence, but that is why i am here, growing up with fairly alternate parents i have been brought up to think critically about all aspects in my context which influence how i view the world and how i perceive things. this critical thinking which is in my nature hit a road block when i found out that there is still a whole bunch of people who adhere to the belief that the earth is flat. i will give your belief merit as everyone is entitled to their own opinion, i myself am christian and believe that an all powerful God is looking over us to make sure we carry out his divine will, so i can understand how you may perceive the world as a flat earth, but before i can be convinced or start to take this notion seriously i must have a few uncertainties made certain to me.

before i jump to the conclusion that i am/ or possess a higher intellectual capacity than yours by asking cocky manipulative questions, which no doubt you will answer flawlessly, i announce my opinion on what i think about this concept of the "flat earth".

is it fair to say that what we perceive as "reality" is defined by the experiences we undertake that appeal to our senses. it is "real" that if someone throws a ball at the wall we will; SEE the ball flying through the air, we SEE and HEAR it collide with the wall and we will see bounce of the wall and by doing so we are witnessing an act which we take on as being a part of our reality. from this we can plainly see and understand that our reality is based on the things which appeal to our primary sense, especially sight and that repetition of an even re-enforces our belief. for any person to take on a reality they must analyze their experiences and make sense of what fits into everything else and what doesn't fit, this is the core basics of childhood science and is how a three year old can understand that the cartoons on the TV are not actually real.

they say mathematics is a perfect science, it is so because it fits so intricately into nearly all aspects of life, so i put to you; that to suggest that the earth is flat is also to imply that the whole mathematics science is a fabricated mechanism to prove things which aren't in fact true. it is to imply that the whole inhabitants of the earth which is the result of evolution due to survival of the fittest (and more intelligent) or the creations of an excessively powerful and "all knowing" god are wrong, except for a select group, this can come across as being quite arrogant. if you say the world is flat, by the same token i can say that i have fifteen fingers instead of ten, i can then disregard a proved science and easily say that you cannot see or feel my other fingers, however this would not be reality because as i have already stated reality is defined by what believe makes sense based on numerous past experiences.

Science, mathematical or otherwise, and FET are not mutually exclusive - see the Gravity sticky for examples of this.
