i like to say i'm an atheist, but i could maybe be considered a "bible literalist"..
Um, how does that work? In my opinion, they're polar opposites.
i believe we're lied to a lot.
That we are. It's to the point where those who lie to us don't even know they're lying.

I'm totally befuddled too.

lol yea i don't know.. i like to say i'm an atheist because i don't believe in god like religious people do.. i'm not "religious".. but it's not that i don't believe what the bible says happened.. i just take it differently, in the most literal way you can.. but maybe that's not technically what a "bible-literalist" is, i don't know.

...
You take the Bible very literally, yet you don't believe in God?

i guess i am not explaining very well because i don't care enough.. i don't think it's a believe in god and the bible or don't kind of thing. my beliefs fall somewhere in the middle i guess and if you still don't understand i don't care, i'm not a message board arguer.. especially about personal beliefs..
i believe that it could be agreed that god = creator, and i believe creator = alien. so therefore god = alien. i don't believe in the version of god that religion promotes.
-
i don't believe in the version of god that religion promotes.
Yet you believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible?
Seriously, you are making no sense. And I'm part of a religion that was founded on the concept of nonsense.

then maybe literal is not the word i should have used. ::)

Okay, then what other word should you have used? I can't read minds.

Creator of life, or of space/time?
And who/what created alien god where?

No, I really don't. Clarification would be awesome.

Because I'm interested in different religious/spiritual beliefs, and because your posts were very confusing and self-contradictory.
Curiosity, I guess.

no.. and i already said.. it's obviously not the word i should have used. i'm sorry. forget it. you understand what i was trying to say. now i'm leaving it at that.
at least i'm not a part of a religion that i consciously know was founded on the concept of nonsense. i have the intelligence to just.. not be.
-
you understand what i was trying to say.
As was said before, no. I was unable to understand you due to your lack of communication skills.
at least i'm not a part of a religion that i consciously know was founded on the concept of nonsense. i have the intelligence to just.. not be.
You want to get in an argument about Discordianism with me? I'm up for that. Just be sure to use words that reflect what you're thinking, you aneristic little spag.

lol you're calling me a name. i find that funny. i don't get into fights on message boards. it's not lack of communication skills. i just don't care enough to go into great depth about religious views. maybe i should say i'm "agnostic", since my beliefs don't fit any religion. i don't know. i don't really care. do you understand yet?
and again, like i said, i don't get into fights on message boards. go ahead and call me names and tell me what you believe. i mean i'm interested, so go ahead and tell me. and i'll listen and probably even remember it for future reference of Discordianism, in the event i may need to. i don't ever tell people that what they believe is senseless, i only said what i said because of what you said. i don't directly attack any beliefs. and i don't call people names, either. i believe anything is possible.

*Sigh*
1. You started the ad hominems by insulting my intelligence.
2. You say that you're agnostic, atheistic, and that you don't believe in the common perception of God, yet you mentioned holding a literal view of the Bible? No, I do not understand.
3. I never said that your beliefs don't make sense, only your attempts to express them.
4. You posted what I believed was an open invitation to argue. When I argue, I don't pull punches.

i did not start it, lol. you were the one, you insulted me first when you immediately questioned what i said my beliefs were and said it did not make sense, or "was senseless". even implying that it was more senseless than the religion that you are a part of ??? i didn't even know what your beliefs are, you invited that one to yourself.
this is the 3rd time i'm trying to say, i guess i should have not used the word literal. maybe not atheist, either, and maybe not agnostic. i don't know. and the 2nd time i am trying to say i'm sorry for that. i don't know if there is a word that best describes my beliefs. i tried to summarize it and i guess i didn't use good enough words. i don't care what the right word is. i believe anything is possible. whatever. lets leave it at that.

Asking for clarification when you don't understand someone is an attack?
Also,
3. I never said that your beliefs don't make sense, only your attempts to express them.
Finally, there is a difference between Discordianism and not making sense.

You were the one who said it was founded on nonsense. I'm happy for you that you've finally found a difference between nonsense and your belief. I tend to not believe so much in what sounds like nonsense, myself. That's actually kind of what I'm trying to explain, that you don't understand.. maybe I meant the opposite of what a "literalist" would be.

i don't know
Of course you don't know. That's why it's called a belief. :-\
You must think there was a creator and that he was an alien for some reason. I'm not looking for scientific justification... I'm just curious.

i am not doing this. i'm done. screw you guys. i'm not posting here anymore. if this is what happens when you respond to a thread asking what you believe.. it's not worth it. i don't give a damn what you guys believe, on a personal level, i mean, good for you at least you believe in something.. i like to read about people's beliefs, but only for the sake of knowledge. i don't have a well developed belief system. i don't claim to have a scientific explanation for everything. it's stupid. why bother? i believe anything is possible.
i've been reading this board for a while now, but just not posting. but i am not posting anymore.
(Edited due to excessive profanity.)

Okay, bye. If you change your mind, just try use better word choice. And remember people on this site like to debate.
EDIT: I don't think anyone was trying to insult you.

i'm sorry, i don't mean to be offensive to anyone in particular, but i think the questioning is stupid and pointless. i think it's pretty fucking straightforward: i believe anything is possible. how could you scientifically justify that god is not an alien? maybe he's not. i don't know. so for all those who think he is not, go ahead and try to scientifically justify it. and i'd say good for you, if that's what you believe. the fact that people like to debate on this site is why i like to read it. but i don't like to argue with people.
-
Moved the discussion from Poll: What religion and Earth shape do you believe in? to here.
And elocin, please reconsider your decision. Yes, I understand that debating can be frustrating, but you can actually learn a lot here.
-
i apologize, i misread your post. at first i read "i'm just looking for scientific justification" not "i'm not looking..."

I did read it.. after posting here last night i checked it out. looked on wikipedia, too. it's interesting. i didn't know it actually was "based on nonsense".. and i was not "failing" in anything.. i still don't believe i would hold beliefs that i would say are "based in nonsense". i don't want to get into a debate over how sensible or non-sensible it is because i don't believe it matters.

Nonsense, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
In any case, I'm done here. PM me if you want to continue the discussion further.
