Thought of this during Science today.
It is a large ring. (no, not Halo, more of a large space station shaped like halo)
My ring, is pretty much a city. It contains everything required to live on it. It can accommodate thousands, maybe even millions of people after it's construction is complete. It can manufacture pretty much ANY required resource you may need up there, and has everything you need to use it.
Now, for the main part:
You know all those problems with Global Warming and all that shit? Well, all those problems can be SOLVED. Due to the size of the ring, and outer solar panels on the outside of the ring, there will always be a side of it facing the Sun, meaning infinite, renewable, free, and clean energy! The energy collected from the panels will be more then enough to power all of Earth, and all of the ring. The energy will be transferred into large cells, probably a battery shaped cell, 1m in length and a radius of 25cm. These cells will then be transferred down to Earth for the use of everything from cars to large industries.
These cells, being highly advanced, will be able to hold extreme amounts of energy. Everything on Earth will then be converted to be able to use these cells. Cars will be powered entirely on the cells, and one cell will be able to power one car from anywhere from a few days up to a month, depending on how much you use your car.
As well as that, my ring will be a large orbital defense weapon, capable of destroying nearly anything that comes into Earth's airspace, unauthorized.
There, now what do you guys think about my plans for world domination, uh, I mean, my new ring...? Good, well now you can all help me build it, starting with purchasing the required materials.
P.S, I didn't know where else this would belong, so I decided to post it here. If it is wrong, please correct.

Your idea assumes an RE.
-
K boss, I know the Earth is flat, this is hypothetical.
-
Why go to science if you're just gonna spit on it?

Your lack of respect for others is astounding. I don't believe I've ever met someone who was so full of hate and anger towards those who are not like them.
-
Why go to science if you're just gonna spit on it?
Shut up.
I mean what QR said.

What you said first is equally valid.

Says the Christian.

My post is very scientific.

My post is very scientific.
Too hard to accept you're a nobody who will never come up with any scientific revelations?
At least as long as you think the Earth is flat, you must think you're a genius because of this.

The Sun is not an infinite source of energy.

You get teh idea.

Where do we get enough materials to build something around the earth?
Also, you completely described halo. Stop it.
-
We could get some from mars I suppose.
-
By global warming you really mean climate change, right?
-
No, I'm pretty sure he means that overall, there is warming globally.
-
Nevertheless, the correct term is climate change.

They are the same, and global warming is more commonly used.

Global warming is climate change, but climate change is not necessarily global warming.

Shut the fuck up.
-
Also, I don't think you understand how expensive it would be to get the energy cells to earth. It wouldn't be very efficient.

Nevertheless, the correct term is climate change.
What's incorrect about global warming?
Btw, assuming all RE information was correct, we're pretty much building a ring around the equator anyways.
That line is the only path for geosynchronous satellites to take and I believe satellites actually have to be approximately 1,000 feet apart as to not mix signals. Actually it seems plausible that we may even run out of slots.
What you're describing sounds like a partial construction of an inversely operational dyson sphere.
...I say we just dedicate Africa to solar energy collection.
