Woudln't that make the earth just SLIGHTLY round? Not a sphere but not FLAT? It would be more of a long long long LONG oval?
-
Well, Unimportant and I discussed this. We think its a possibility infact. My first impression would be that the curvature would be off, but this is not doing any measurements or geometry.
I don't see why not. I believe you mean to say "convex", by the way.

The Earth is round! Don't give in!

Err.. I mean what I said. :D But I did mean mountains not mounats in the topic name.
-
Oh, you mean flat but in the shape of an oval?
-
No, what a silly trick question. I mean.. round and in the shape of a very very wide oval :P .
-
Oh.
I don't think RE supports that. The Round Earth is a sphere because that's how it must be. I believe it is due to gravity and other forces.

Slightly off topic, but what if the world were flat, but the moon was round?
-
FE does not claim that all celestial bodies are flat.
The moon's function is not unlike that of a spotlight. Whether or not it must be round or flat is something I don't know.
