I've been reading through these posts, and quite frankly I'm worried. These theories that the earth is flat hold no logic or evidence whatsoever. So, I decided to show proof that the earth is round.

The curvature of the horizon can clearly be seen in these photos. Optical illusion? Look at these photos after I have edited them:

The only modifications I did to these photos were draw straight lines, just as if it would be if the earth was flat. You can obviously and irrefutably see that the earth does have some curvature in the horizon, and that it is not an illusion.
I got these pictures off google, but you can prove this for yourself. Take a camera on an airplane and snap a photo of the horizon. Besides an obvious curve visible to the naked eye, you can alse try drawing a straight line using a simple tool like paint (as I used). You should also experiment with altitude. If you were to take a picture of the horizon on a commercial airliner, the horizon would be more pronounced. If you were to take a picture of the horizon from the ground, however, the curvature would be much less noticable. At the lower altitude, you would need to find a landscape large enough to show the curve without obstructions such as trees, buildings, etc. Thus the ocean would make a perfect spot to see it.
Let's be logical. The government is not hiding any information about the earth being flat, and it is surely not organized enough to keep things secret on a worldwide scale. The governments of the world are not out to get you, and they have no reason to. The earth is round. It makes sense.
So, as you can see, I have found evidence that the earth is round without depending on the round earth theory (as you call it). This is something anybody can see, and the government can't stop us.
Oh, and dinosaurs didn't make boats. lol

Oh dear here we go again. Someone's taken a picture of the side of a hill and make it look like the 'Round Earth'. You people are so gullible. How do we know you weren't sent by the government? You could be part of the conspiracy, not just another poor soul who's been indoctrinated. Drawing lines on pictures of hills prooves nothing, unlike my research. I am still looking for funding (please send me a personal message) to publish this, then the government scam will be overturned byt the undeniable truth.

I don't know whether to cry for you, or laugh at you.

With no disrespect intended, is this not akin to sticking your fingers in your ears and humming loudly to yourself? This forum encourages RE's to discuss and debate FE'ers beliefs and the posted content should provoke critical thinking, evidence (or link to pre-posted evidence) supporting theories, etc.
At the very least, I expect FE'ers defending the FE theories to not accuse everyone who drops by with questions or curiousities of being part of a large conspiracy. If you don't have a good answer, simply say so (or don't reply), but attacking people who pose questions won't yield good results or reputation.

I totally agree. That's the nature of forums though isn't it? Everyone is there for a common reason but you get a whole spectrum of personalities.

Those pictures are indeed evidence of a curved horizon.
However, a curved horizon is not a phenomenon exclusive to a sphereoid Earth; it is entirely possible on a flat one.

Explain?

It has already been explained. It is even on this forum, infact.

For the purpose of enlightenment, link me? A simple search has come up fruitless.

The eye can only see so far. Now make an arc with this line and there you go, curvature.

I can draw an arc. This proves...?

Your line of sight is limited. Therefore, when you stand in one point and sweep your line of sight around you, you can only see in a (say 40 mile) circle around your head.

Posessing the ability to draw a curved line does not prove that human eyesight has the limitations you're describing. Try again, please.

Better yet, let's get back to the actual problem posed...
Unimportant, a FE'er, writes (above) that pictures are evidence of a curved horizon and goes on to say that a curved horizon is possible on a flat Earth. I asked for an explanation to that (example: domed atmosphere, etc.) and have not been provided with such an explanation.

Have you ever been in a plane and looked at the horizon? You'll notice the curvature

I never said anything about 'drawing' lines. Think about the post before you respond. Try again, please.

No, you said "now make an arc with this line", not to actually draw it, but to make it. And when I said I can draw one, you indicated that it proved that my line of sight is limited.
So I repeat: drawing ("making") an arc does not prove anything. Other than I can draw ("make") an arc. It does not prove that my line-of-sight is limitted. Now you think about the post before you respond instead of suggesting that I have not. I'm not here to waste my time with nonsensical replies.

Are you a fucktard or what? What type of shit did your mother put in your head.

I know TheEngineer is being a bit impatient with you, but really you should be able to connect the dots.
Imagine you are in a large room that is cylindrical in shape. You are standing in the middle of the circular floor, such that all walls are an equal distance from your feet. Now, look with your eyes at the point where the floor meets the wall; you'll notice curvature, much like you claim to see on the horizon.
The same affect is what creates the illusion of curvature; you cannot see indefinitely on a flat earth because of atmospheric occlusion, and this point at which you can no longer see is like the wall of your cylindrical room. You look down at the point where the floor (the earth) meets the wall (the point at which the atmosphere obscures your view of more distant lands) and you notice curvature. This is not because the earth is curved, but because the edge of what you can see, is.
-
ok...so you're saying that no matter where you are in the sky, at any given point/moment/altitude/ ect....
the furthest you can see at all times.....is the exact edge of the supposed ice wall.
back to the theroy of the cylinder room. supposing you are correct and standing at that exact center...i look out and my eyes can only see the exact edge where the floor meets the wall, giving me the curve.....
then what happens when i take a step forward.....i should be able to see the wall.....
or do penguins pepper spray my eyes?

No no no, that's not it at all. You can only see as far as you can see; maybe 10 miles, maybe 50. The ice wall is much further away from you than that, as is New York, as is Paris. The walls of your cylinder room aren't the ice wall or the edges of the earth, they are a point 10 or 15 or 20 or however many miles distant at which the atmosphere occludes your vision. It's a bit like a fog, but instead of measuring how far you can see in feet, it's measured in miles.

Even neglecting the atmosphere:

It's really sad when we have to start drawing these things in order for them to understand...

things like that are only true if the are dran on a beer mat.

Really. Then explain how it is I can see the moon?
