anybody ever think that the flat earth theory is just a "conspiracy"? Ever think that maybe this is all a scam, and they are just trying to make money from selling their books?
-
You can access the literature freely online.
-
I'm not sure how you think anybody's making money off this site. :-\
-
UPDATE: They still haven't learned how to post... yet.
Are you sure? Some of the latest noobs seem kind of suspect.
-
It probably was, originally. Well, that and simply an experiment into how far such a thing could be taken. Parallax became quite famous from this FE thing, and as you can see, it's effect persists to this day.

I prefer to think that there are some people out there that truly are that out of touch with reality.
Oh, and NTheGreat, your avatar is one of my favorite images in the history of Space (right next to the Ultra Deep Field).

Ultra Deep Field... OMG... It sure humbles one.

So does the Death Star. It doesn't keep me awake at night though.

If you're humbled by a work of fiction, then you might want to have a mental-health professional review the reason with you. Just saying...

Well done, that is exactly what I was implying.

Nope. We both agree that the Death Star is fictional. You admit it humbles you. You have an issue that I recommend you have reviewed. If that logic fails you, then I recommend that you add that failure to the items to review.
If you want to imply that the UDF is fictional and I disagree, then there is no parallel to what you should have reviewed.

The idea of a space station the size of a small moon with the capabilities of destroying a planet is certainly humbling. As you acknowledged, it is not real. And anyone prostrating themselves before the concept is at best stupid and at worst insane.
But that's RET for you... ::)

But that's RET for you... ::)
First, being humbled is not prostrating. Do add "tendency to use hyperbole" to the list.
Second, you have failed miserably at establishing any parallel between your being humbled by a work that you consider fictional and something involving RET. Have you established that a photograph of the UDF in anyway invalidates FET, for example?
Third, no, ideas involving fiction are not certainly humbling.

It's constructive that you're being so self-critical. I salute your humility.

The only source for the UDF is the Hubble Telescope. ::)
Third, no, ideas involving fiction are not certainly humbling.
Ouch. Tell that to THX, Skywalker Sound and Industrial Light and Magic. :-\

Stop being an asshole Proleg.

Why doesn't the government shut down rumour sites about new spy planes and such? Simple - the mass of speculation hides the real data.
-
So why would killer penguins shut down the FET rumourmill? The absence of such open speculation would only provide greater credibility to the conspiracy theorists...
-
Do the penguins have lasers attached to their heads?

Do the penguins have lasers attached to their heads?
Yes they do! Dolphins do also have freaking lasers attached to their heads.

Of course it makes sense!! If you're looking for a conspiracy the most obvious choice is one which is being suppressed by the forces of the conspiracy - the whole JFK assassination thing got blown up so much because witnesses would give conflicting testimony, then either 'disappear' or suddenly refuse to talk to anyone. Evidence of conspiracy, or just that lots of people had accidents and stopped being talkative?

Isn't there a theory that the driver shot JFK?
I think is highly unlikely that the driver could have been the shooter.
Would you have shot a man sitting in your back seat, driving a car without a roof, when thousands
of people are watching your every move, so to speak?

to choose conspiracy which being supressed you have to know it being supressed. by definition it being supressed. so you can never know.
i think this is called cycling logic.
your jfk conspiracy example arises out of conflicted witness. if killer penguins remove evidence of conspiracy (ie making all witness statements the same) then there no conspiracy.
Because you cannot prove a thing doesn't make it not real. Can you prove that JFK was killed as part of a plot?
No, but that doesn't mean that it's not true, it simply means that the people that did it were good enough to get away with it.
-
An FYI if you don't know what the ultra deep field images are. Watch that, then tell me you can equate the death star, fictional or not, to being nearly as humbling as that. Also, here is the pale blue dot video...
EDIT NOTE: If you think that NASA is a photo-doctoring factory, then I recommend that you not click either link.

A conspiracy is by definition a secretive, protective organisation or group of people - finding concrete evidence is always going to be difficult.

yes i think we agree until it proven there conspiracy there no conspiracy
The sheer fail there astounds me.
"If you can't prove it, it doesn't exist."
So... Germs didn't exist 300 years ago... and everything in the world was only created after people could prove it was there, by that logic.
Your logic, Sir, is just... just... I don't have the words for it.

yes i know that it hard for you to understand it ok
germs may have exist 300 years ago but at the hour noone could say for sure
there was no prove
(people used to believe it was smells that cause people get ill!!!)
hence, at the hour, it corect to say "yes i think we agree until it proven there germs there no germs"
then someone discovers proof for germs
now there is proof for germs we can say germs exist
you understand now i hope
