Title: Sun 3000 miles above earth

If the sun really is only 3000 miles above the earth, then how come when I am in a plane by the equator up at around 30,000 ft I can see the sun above my position? (above Mexico for instance?)

Because 30,000 feet is only 5.68 miles.
