if the earth is flat they should both dissapear at the same time, at the distance the eye can see...
-
There's this thing called FAQ, I hear it's a blast to read..
-
I tried its to fucking dumb to find an answer
-
Or you're too ignorant and lazy.
-
ok so answer my question then...
-
This has been gone over 1000's of times. Neither of us have it memorized, so use the search function (or the FAQ) and find it.
-
like I said i tried the search feature couldnt find my answer, a link would help if you know it.
-
If I wasn't so tired I'd search for you but honestly, just read the FAQ
-
Find me where it says you used the search function. And it is in the FAQ. It has a link doens't it?
-
first thing I did was use the search feature and all i got was a box of highlighted letters
-
Uhhm, yea, that's called searching. Then you scan through until you find something that looks like what you're looking for.
-
It's due to refraction of light in the atmolayer and total internal reflection, effects that also cause mirages.

Listed below is a complete list of the Geography questions, in the FAQ.
The question "Why does the hull of a ship disappear over the horizon before the mast does?" is not in this list. It is also not among the other sections: General, Government, The Earth In Space and Religion.
Geography
Q: Do you have a map?
Q: Exactly what shape is the Earth if it's flat? Square or circle?
Q: "Why doesn't water run off the Earth?"
Q: "How does global warming affect the ice wall?"
Q: "What about tides?"
Q : "Why is the North pole colder than the equator?"
Q: "How do volcanic eruptions happen?"
Q: "What about time zones?"
Q: "What about Lunar Eclipses"
Q: "How come the travel time by air from South America to New Zealand, via the polar route, is SHORTER than the travel time going North first and then South again?"
Q: "How can a compass work on a Flat Earth?"
Q: "When traveling in a straight direction, you will always reach the same point on the globe from where you started. How can this happen if the world is flat?"
Q: If you go directly south won’t you eventually fall off the edge of the Earth?
Q: How come when I flush my toilet in the northern hemisphere it goes counterclockwise but I have this friend in Australia and when he flushes it goes clockwise?
Q: How do seasons work?
I have also tried to search for the question. A search for "ship" and "horizon" found nothing. A search for "horizon" found four pages of results including two addressing this question at:

I can't decide if this site is a hoax or if the people running it are sincere. I can't see much point in posting anything here. No one is going to be converted and the posts get increasingly vitriolic. A lot of heat gets generated, but no light.
Is there anything more up to date than Rowbotham's book? His 3rd edition was published in 1872. Has no-one repeated his experiments or devised new ones?
It will take more than telling me that I'm brainwashed, and that the Round Earth is an international conspiracy, to convince me.
-
This site (just the forums here) is not a hoax. Tom says he repeated some experiments in the book, and found the same results.

Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and refracted the light from Venus.
