It's illegal for you guys to post your desktops here because the software it depicts is non-free, the restrictions of which in many cases extend to images of it. However, my desktop is perfectly legal to distribute (at least in countries like Finland which haven't stupidly banned DeCSS) because all of the software I use is free.

Microsoft Corporation has allowed screen shots of its commercially-released computer software products to be used in advertising, documentations, educational materials, videos and web sites as long as they are not obscene or pornographic, are not disparaging, defamatory, or libelous to Microsoft, and are not digitally-altered (except for being cropped).

What does this have to do with it being illegal to post screen shots?

I will never understand why you don't shut the fuck up about it when nobody else spams their beliefs that nobody cares about.

I will never understand why people waste so much time worrying about software policies and not understanding why people choose convenience over "freedom".
