Flat Earth General / Re: Greek Conspiricy
« on: January 09, 2016, 07:01:30 AM »
The idea of the round earth is a conspiracy.  There is no doubt about it.  It has been a conspiracy since the Greeks first "Proved" that the earth is round.  The astronomer Garminarcus of Samos realized that the best way to gain power and fame in his mapping endeavors was to make sure that people rely on only his maps to be able to navigate.  He then started spreading his hateful gospel among the people.  Although it took a long time to take hold, and many people who believed his theories were prosecuted by those who knew the truth of Garminarcus' sins, the seeds of deceit had been sown.  Garminarcus passed the secret to his mapping down to his son, and his grandson after that, and it still remains in the hands of his descendants.  Even the governments have either been maliciously convinced, or otherwise payed off to make sure that the truth never gets out.  That is why to this day, the majority of people believe the earth is round.  Around the early 1900s, the mapping company Garmin was formed by Garminarcus' descendants as a nod to his original ploy, but, fearing the people would discover the truth, the Garminarcus descendants created numerous other companies of the same purpose under different names to put the people off the scent.  We need to stop being taken advantage of by our governments, and the corporations that run them.  Fight back against Garminarcus and his descendants!
What complete and utter garbage! I've been trying to find a word for people like you, nearest is in German:Verschwörungsliebhaber.

You should realise that maps work best when they are based on the actual shape of the object mapped.  I seem to have noticed that in 150 years or so the flat earth movement hasn't yet come up with a workable map!

The obvious reason is that the shape of the earth simply will not fit on a flat surface. All the flat maps of the earth are projections of a globe with known and accepted distortions.  For example an Azimuthal Equidistant Projection is very useful in orienting a radio antenna and giving the distance to any location.

If the earth were really flat no projection would be needed, just a reduced scale version of the flat earth! The shapes of all the land masses and distances between them are well enough known, so why no accurate flat earth map?

So, if you want acceptance get cracking and get a workable map.

Wait, so if I can't map a flat earth with a flat map can I map it with a globe?

Flat Earth Q&A / Re: So, what's on the bottom?

It's damn easy to dig through bedrock, and by the way, there would be not lava, because there would be no center to heat the rock, as it is simply a disc...

Why not, is there something preventing me from digging a really deep hole and falling out the other end?

Bedrock

Umm, actually that would be minecraft... Where i live, the bedrock is 5 feet down....

Despite the very deep words from the classic song, "Red Solo Cup", it is impossible to have a "front of the back"...  Therefore, what is on the "back" of your "Flat" earth?

No, because it'd be impossible to draw.

Nonetheless, it would be helpful to make an attempt at it.  All things can be represented somehow through drawings, if not completely accurately.

And if there are, then where are the towers?

Then try it.  And you will see yourself a satellite.  Maybe take some pictures too.

A simple telescope could not only see if there is a stratylite, but would also prove from simple observation that there is an obvious existence of a satellite.

But I'm not at all sure they "must".  Balloon relays date to the 50's. I find that much more plausible than a whirring bit of metal forever falling without falling, don't you?
It would be a plausible theory only if you could demonstrate a balloon relay holding position as accurately as a satellite.

Agreed, a balloon would be easily buffeted around, and because of this it would no longer fulfill the requirement of being geostationary.

Actually, I find that it makes more sense to have something be eternally falling instead of having to perpetually power itself.

What is the reason for the so called "Conspiracy" by the government?

Also, stratallytes orbit, which in the flat world, they can't do.  They orbit, just in the stratosphere.

If the earth was moving upward so fast, the stratallite would not have enough downward thrust to stay in the air.  Nor would airplanes, helicopters etc.

Sorry, I'm not quite up to date, what is a stratolite?

Then what pray tell, if satellites don't exist, are they pointing at then?

I have seen many dishes pointed perpendicular to the horizontal plane.  Where are your towers if it's pointing straight up?

See, my point is that if the earth is really accelerating, then there could not be a manmade space object, but because of gravity, initial thrust, and the fact that space is a vacuum, makes it so that there can be satellites on a spherical earth.  And because the satellites must exist because of the previously stated reasons, then the earth must be spherical.

If this is true, then how does the "object" stay up there, because the acceleration rate assigned to the flat earth would not be able to be compencated by the downward thrust produced by any engine or amount of fuel for long enough to make it practical, or even possible.

Satellite receiver dishes point upward to the sky, to receive and send signals from the satellite.  If they send and receive signals from space, then there must be something up there (satellites) to communicate with it.  Therefore, satellites must exist.
